"Oh, I'm standing firm, go ahead!" Tide reined in his arrogance, lowering his head to suppress the mocking smile as he explained kindly.
"He is Wei Scholar, the husband of Miss Hu, the son-in-law of the Hu Family!" Xiu'er proudly declared Wei Scholar's identity, waiting for the person before her to be shocked… But once she finished speaking, the person didn't even lift their head, leaving her utterly astonished as she exchanged glances with Wei Scholar.
"Son-in-law?" With his head down, he murmured softly, his tone filled with confusion. "My Linglong Sister just had a baby. I stayed with her for so many days, and there was only Hu Ye by her side. I thought she had no husband…" His words were neither heavy nor light, yet they struck a chord.
"You… you little girl, what nonsense are you spouting? I am Hu Linglong's husband, Wei Scholar; everyone knows that," Wei Scholar shouted anxiously, losing the elegance and restraint he had moments before.
"Then who is she?" He released his tightly clenched hands, pointing a finger disdainfully at Xiu'er.
"She… she is… she is a maid," Wei Scholar stammered. For some reason, facing the maid before him filled him with an inexplicable dread.
"What?" Xiu'er exclaimed in disbelief, angrily retorting, "You say I'm a maid? Sir, when you took me out to meet your friends, you didn't say it like that. You said I was your wife, your most cherished one…"
Wei Scholar had only wanted to resolve the situation at hand and then check on Hu Linglong. He had carelessly said what he did but was now embarrassed and anxious as Xiu'er revealed their situation outside. He hinted for Xiu'er to stop talking but ended up raising his hand and slapping her hard while shouting, "Shut up!"
Watching their squabble unfold without needing to intervene put Qing Luan in a particularly good mood.
After being slapped by Wei Scholar, Xiu'er immediately realized she had been tricked. She glared at the troublemaker before her but saw only a cold smile in her eyes that made her shiver involuntarily. "Sir, let's go check on the young lady and young master; there's no need to waste time with her."
"Alright!" Knowing that continuing this commotion would be detrimental to himself, Wei Scholar decisively ended the dispute.
Qing Luan did not intervene; she didn't want to end the performance too soon. Such scum should be dealt with by Hu Linglong herself. Only by resolving it personally could she truly let go of her burdens and start anew.
In the room of Hu Linglong, a strong aroma of ginger filled the air, mingled with a rich sweetness that made one's mouth water.
"Miss," Jin'er said nervously, worried that her mistress might eat and then vomit again.
"It smells so good," the weary Hu Linglong murmured softly, trying to reassure Jin'er.
Upon hearing this, a faint smile appeared on Jin'er's lips. She stirred the spoon in the bowl and then scooped a bit of soup to feed Hu Linglong, anxiously watching her. This was made by Qingluan herself; if this didn't work, there would truly be no other options left.
"Mmm," Hu Linglong sighed as the warm, sweet soup filled her mouth with a strong ginger flavor. It warmed her all the way to her heart, prompting a comfortable sigh and an instinctive desire for more. After finishing a bowl of ginger rice porridge, a smile crept onto Hu Linglong's face, and she seemed to regain some vitality.
"Miss, are you alright?" Jin'er asked breathlessly, filled with excitement.
"Yes!" Linglong replied while lying back and rubbing her belly. "It's warm inside, so comfortable. Jin'er, what is this? Why haven't I had it before?"
Jin'er was momentarily at a loss for words and awkwardly replied, "This is made by Qingluan. I'm not very sure either. When she comes later, you can ask her!" She increasingly felt that Qingluan was her mistress's lucky star; as long as she was around, everything would be fine.
"Alright, you can go now. I need to rest for a bit," Hu Linglong said. Usually feeling drowsy, today she felt surprisingly alert. She truly hoped her health would improve quickly so she could hold Rui'er again.
Jin'er tidied up and then turned to leave, closing the door behind her.
