Looking at the pavilions and towers in the courtyard, adorned with exotic flowers and plants, Qing Luan felt a bit puzzled. Hu Lingyun didn't seem unattractive, and his family was wealthy, so why hadn't he taken a wife? The absence of a woman to manage the household made things rather chaotic, no wonder the maids were getting bold and acting as if they had authority. 0

After dinner, Qing Luan instructed Qin'er to take Tide to rest, then asked Hu Lingyun to accompany her to see Hu Linglong, considering it a way to aid digestion. 0

As soon as they entered Linglong Courtyard, they heard the loud cries of a child, as if he were using all his strength to express his grievances. 0

"Rui'er," Hu Lingyun exclaimed upon hearing the cries. He hurriedly pushed open the door only to find the room empty except for his sister lying on the bed, silently shedding tears. Her once beautiful face had become gaunt from crying, worry, and lack of appetite; her eyes appeared hollow and haunting. 0

He rushed over and picked up the child from the small bed, angrily shouting, "Nursemaid! Nursemaid!" 0

Qing Luan remained silent, simply standing by and watching. 0

"Here I come," said the nursemaid, dressed in a dark red cotton short jacket with a matching long skirt. Her black hair was neatly pinned up at the back with a delicate silver hairpin. She looked simple yet elegant, but her impatience and dissatisfaction were evident as she approached Hu Lingyun. Upon reaching him, she immediately changed her expression to one of warmth and asked with a smile, "Sir, what can I do for you?" 0

"Can't you hear how much the child is crying?" Hu Lingyun questioned angrily while holding the child close. 0

The nursemaid lowered her head. While Hu Lingyun didn't scrutinize her closely, Qing Luan observed carefully. The nursemaid clearly had a disdainful expression on her face. "Sir, I'm also feeling wronged. It's not that I don't want to feed him; it's that the young lady won't allow it. There's nothing I can do!" Her voice was sincere, making it seem as if she had suffered greatly. 0

Upon hearing this, Hu Lingyun stopped blaming her and handed the child over, saying, "Feed him well before bringing him back." 0

"Yes!" The nursemaid steadily took the child and walked into a side room. 0

Qing Luan withdrew her probing gaze from the nursemaid and focused on Hu Lingyun. Meeting his eyes, she bluntly conveyed her thoughts: idiot. 0

The disdainful gaze made Hu Lingyun feel uncomfortable all over, and she couldn't help but explain, "Linglong is very ill and doesn't want the child to leave her side, so the Nursemaid often gets scolded..." 0

"Did you hear that with your own ears?" came the sarcastic question, head tilted. 0

"I..." Hu Lingyun was momentarily speechless, suddenly recalling that every time she visited, all the girls would complain about how the young lady scolded and bullied them, not allowing the young master to drink milk. Especially that Nursemaid, who suffered even more. Later, those girls said the young lady didn't want anyone around her, only keeping them and their child in the room... 0

"You're right to worry about your sister, but allowing those maids and servants to bully the young lady without intervening—what's going on here? Is this really your intention?" The implication was clear: those who caused trouble and bullied their superiors should have been driven out long ago. 0

Hu Lingyun remained silent, clenching her fists tightly, her Black Eyes harboring endless fury. Even Qing Luan standing beside her felt that anger could burn her as well. 0

"You go handle your matters; I will have a good talk with the young lady," he said. This was his business and had nothing to do with her; she would only do what she needed to do. 0

Hu Lingyun glanced at her lifeless sister lying on the bed, nodded at her, and stormed out in anger. 0

The previously crying child was now fed and quiet. The room was extremely silent; since she was in confinement, it should have been stuffy inside. However, with the hot weather and no one cleaning up diligently, there was a strange odor in the room that made it uncomfortable to breathe. 0

"Hey," she waved a hand in front of Hu Linglong's face to greet her, but there was no response; she seemed like a living corpse. "I'm Qing Luan; your brother sent me," she introduced herself slowly and quietly while carefully observing her reaction, but found no sign of acknowledgment. 0
