As the Skeletal War Elephant fell, the battle for Southern Capital finally came to an end. The Demon offensive seemed to have halted, and the remaining scattered Demon Soldiers were swiftly eliminated. Flames and smoke gradually dissipated, and the military forces of Southern Capital began to disperse, clearing the battlefield and tending to the casualties. 0

Li Ming gasped for breath, his hands resting on his knees as he gazed at the Southern Capital before him. The scenes of fire, blood, and destruction filled his vision, overwhelming him with complex emotions. Although the Demon invasion had lasted less than three hours, it had already caused such immense damage. 0

"What on earth is happening?" Li Ming murmured to himself, confusion and concern swirling in his mind. 0

Chen Yao approached him and gently patted his shoulder. "Li Ming, take a moment to rest. I’ll go help with the injured." 0

Li Ming nodded, watching as Chen Yao headed toward the casualties. Her figure appeared so resolute amidst the chaos, providing him with a sense of comfort. He knew that despite her previous grievances towards him, she remained a trustworthy companion in critical moments. 0

Chen Yao quickly joined the rescue team, using Spiritual Energy to heal the casualties with swift and precise movements. A soft glow emanated from her hands, bringing warmth and comfort to those in need. 0

"Don’t give up; we will heal you," Chen Yao softly reassured the casualties, her eyes filled with determination. 0

Watching Chen Yao busy at work warmed Li Ming's heart. He understood that although this battle was arduous, they were not alone; many companions like Chen Yao were fighting alongside them. 0

At that moment, Master Han approached, worry and fatigue etched across his face. Seeing Master Han's expression tightened Li Ming's chest; he knew something significant was amiss. 0

"Master Han, do you have any news?" Li Ming asked anxiously. 0

Master Han nodded heavily. "Li Ming, I’m very concerned about Hidden Realm not sending reinforcements. During the battle, I sensed something different about these Demons; they are more bloodthirsty and violent, as if they have lost their will." 0

Li Ming furrowed his brow. "What do you mean?" 0

Master Han explained, "These Demons are no longer organized or strategic like before; their attacks have become more frenzied, as if controlled by some force. I fear there may be a larger conspiracy behind them." 0

A weight settled in Li Ming's heart; he knew Master Han’s instincts were usually accurate. "What should we do? Why hasn’t Hidden Realm sent reinforcements?" 0

Master Han sighed. "I’m not sure; the situation within Hidden Realm might be more complicated than we imagine. For now, we can only rely on ourselves to stabilize the situation and prevent another Demon assault." 0

Li Ming nodded; he understood it was not the time for complaints. "Master Han, we must strengthen our defenses while dispatching reconnaissance teams to keep track of enemy movements." 0

"Exactly. We also need to enhance communication with other cities to ensure mutual support when necessary," Master Han added, a glimmer of resolve flashing in his eyes. 0

"We will," Li Ming said firmly. "We won’t let these Demons succeed." 0

Master Han nodded and then turned to leave, continuing to direct the defense efforts. Li Ming watched his retreating figure, filled with determination and a sense of responsibility. He knew that this battle was far from over; there was still much to be done. 0

The fighting in the Southern Capital had temporarily come to a halt, but the city remained in chaos. Li Ming walked through the ruins, his mind replaying the scenes of the fierce battle. His body was still weary, but he understood that there were more matters to address. 0

He arrived at a makeshift shelter, where a large number of casualties and homeless citizens had gathered. The air was thick with cries and moans, creating an atmosphere of oppression and heaviness. Li Ming took a deep breath, striving to calm himself. 0

Chen Yao was busily moving among the casualties, her Spiritual Energy flowing through her hands as she continuously healed the injured. Her movements were swift and precise, her face set with determination. Li Ming stood at a distance, watching her back, feeling a sense of comfort. 0

"She really is remarkable," Li Ming murmured to himself, gratitude flickering in his eyes. 0

He continued forward and reached a corner where he spotted a familiar face. Wang Qiang lay on a bed, wrapped in bandages; although still weak, he looked much better than before. 0

"Wang Qiang!" Li Ming exclaimed in surprise as he quickly approached the bedside. 0

Wang Qiang opened his eyes and upon seeing Li Ming, tears of excitement streamed down his face. "Li Ming, you came... Thank you, really thank you!" 0

Li Ming grasped Wang Qiang's hand, feeling the faint strength within it. "Wang Qiang, how are you? Do you feel better?" 0

Wang Qiang nodded, gratitude and guilt flashing in his eyes. "I'm much better, all thanks to you. If it weren't for you, I might have..." 0

"Don't say that; what's important is that you're okay now," Li Ming reassured him, his voice filled with sincerity. 0

"Li Ming, thank you so much. I've always known you were a trustworthy friend; this time you truly saved my life," Wang Qiang said choked up, tears glistening in his eyes. 0

Li Ming gently patted Wang Qiang's shoulder. "We're friends; it's what I should do. You need to rest well now and regain your strength." 0

Just then, commotion erupted at the entrance of the shelter. Li Ming looked up to see two people he least wanted to encounter—Xiao Li and Xiao Wang—stumbling in disheveled. Their clothes were torn and covered in blood, their faces etched with panic and exhaustion. 0

"Li Ming! I never expected to see you here," Xiao Li said mockingly, disdain dripping from her tone. 0

Xiao Wang chimed in right behind her, "How come those Demons didn't manage to kill you? What a pity." 0

Li Ming furrowed his brow, struggling to suppress his inner anger. "Are you two alright? Do you need treatment?" 0

Xiao Li let out a cold laugh. "We don't need your fake kindness, Li Ming. You should worry about yourself instead." 0

Wang Qiang, lying nearby, felt his expression darken upon hearing these words. He knew that it was precisely the efforts of Li Ming and Chen Yao that had protected these people, yet they showed no gratitude whatsoever. 0

"You two, do you even know who has been protecting you?" Wang Qiang's voice was weak but filled with anger. "It’s Li Ming and Chen Yao who risked their lives to protect you, allowing you to survive until now." 0

Xiao Li and Xiao Wang clearly didn’t care. Xiao Li scoffed, "Really? I can't see it. Li Ming, you're just a useless person; stop pretending to be a good guy here." 0

Li Ming took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. "I don’t need your thanks, but please respect the facts. We need to unite if we are to get through this difficult time." 0

Xiao Wang sneered, "Unite? With someone like you? I see no hope in that." 0

These sarcastic remarks quickly drew the attention of those around them. Some injured soldiers and civilians furrowed their brows upon hearing the conversation and gradually gathered closer. Many of them had witnessed the bravery of Li Ming and Chen Yao firsthand and felt displeased with Xiao Li and Xiao Wang's attitude. 0

A soldier stepped forward and coldly stated, "What qualifications do you two have to say such things? If it weren't for Li Ming and Chen Yao fighting to protect us, we wouldn't even be standing here right now." 0

Another civilian chimed in, "Exactly! It's too much for you to speak like that. Li Ming took great risks for us!" 0

Xiao Li and Xiao Wang were clearly taken aback by this reaction; their faces turned ugly, but they still held their ground. "We're just speaking the truth. What? Is it wrong to say a few honest words?" 0

Feeling the support from those around him warmed Li Ming's heart, but he didn’t want to escalate the situation further. He raised his hand to signal everyone to calm down. "Everyone, thank you for your support. But what’s most important now is that we unite and face the impending danger together." 0
