Ye Xiaohan quietly crawled out, pressing her wildly beating heart, and ran two blocks away before she could finally slow down, gasping for breath.
What was going on?
She leaned against the wall, stunned and speechless. Could it really be that 6 Bei was the mysterious Flying Dragon General? How was that even possible?
Sure, 6 Bei could be a bit odd at times, but this revelation about his true identity was just too outrageous!
Wait, why did she run? It was 6 Bei who lied, it was 6 Bei who hid his identity; he should be the one fleeing!
Ye Xiaohan slapped her forehead; she had been so shocked that her mind had gone blank.
"No, I need to go back and confront him!" Ye Xiaohan calmed herself. She had to talk to 6 Bei face to face to figure out what was really going on. With so many strange things happening, it would be hard to make sense of it all without a proper discussion.
No matter why 6 Bei was a general or why he was hiding in this remote place, she wanted to hear his explanation.
As long as his explanation made sense, the fact that she had been deceived for so long...
Well, that couldn't be forgiven!
Ye Xiaohan gathered her resolve and confidently returned to the entrance of the courtyard.
The two guards saw her and exchanged surprised glances.
"What are you doing back here? Our general doesn't see visitors. Hurry up and leave!" One guard stepped forward to block Ye Xiaohan, preventing her from lingering at the door.
Ye Xiaohan refused to back down and shouted, "I want to see the Flying Dragon General! You all step aside!"
The guards retorted angrily, "You have quite the nerve! Do you think you can just see the general whenever you want? If you keep pestering us, don't blame us for being rude!"
They were furious, but Ye Xiaohan's anger burned even hotter.
She stood at the door like a bamboo shoot growing in place, unyielding to the fiercest winds and rains. "I must see him today. If you don't step aside, I'll force my way in!"
Ye Xiaohan was already gripping the sedative she always carried, enough to put the two guards to sleep for an hour without any issue.
Since they refused her polite request, she wouldn't hold back either.
One of the guards, seeing her determination, stopped his hot-tempered companion and said to Ye Xiaohan, "Miss, please calm down. We are just soldiers; don't make it difficult for us. Since you insist on seeing the general, we will go inform him."
With his conciliatory tone, Ye Xiaohan couldn't bring herself to lash out at him. Both sides took a step back. She withdrew her hand into her sleeve while the guard went inside to relay her message.
"My lord, that girl is back again. This time she's quite adamant about seeing the general and refuses to leave otherwise." The guard couldn't approach the general directly and first sought out his superior.
If Ye Xiaohan were to see him, she would recognize him as the officer who had just spoken with Liu Bei.
The officer was taken aback and asked, "She's back? Didn't she just leave?"
"Yes, I don't know what's going on with her; she left and then returned." The guard continued, "My lord, there are too many people coming up with various reasons to see the general. Do we really have to endure this? Can't we just send them all away?"
The superior replied, "You know how the general is; he would never be rough with common folk. I already asked earlier, and the general won't see anyone. It seems he's not in a good mood today. Just keep them away; don't disturb him!"
"Understood, my lord!" The guard hurried back to carry out the orders.
Seeing the guard emerge, Ye Xiaohan perked up and stepped forward to ask, "So, can I go in now?"
The guard firmly planted his spear on the ground and said, "No! The general has ordered that no one is allowed inside!"
"How can that be? Do you think you know him better than I do? He won't even see me?" Ye Xiaohan couldn't believe it. Even if Liu Bei had suddenly taken on the title of general, he was still Liu Bei! How could his attitude change so quickly?
The guard on the left, who had a shorter temper, grew impatient and said directly, "Who do you think you are? Our general shows respect even to the current emperor; what makes you think he would bother with a mere village woman like you?"
The guard's words unconsciously reminded Ye Xiaohan of the conversations she had overheard at the Pleasant Tea House. The Flying Dragon General was avoiding her, clearly not wanting to be entangled with her.
Ye Xiaohan felt a mix of anger and frustration, along with a sudden wave of panic.
Even after realizing that Liu Bei was the Flying Dragon General, she was merely shocked, without any other significant emotions. Because, unknowingly, in her heart, Liu Bei was still Liu Bei; even with this other identity, he would not become someone else.
But now, reality had cruelly slapped her in the face.
Liu Bei had transformed into the powerful Flying Dragon General, shattering everything she once knew. Even seeing him had become an unattainable aspiration.
Ye Xiaohan no longer wished to argue with the guard. She took one last look at the courtyard before slowly turning away and walking home without looking back.
Only her reddened eyes and her occasionally stumbling steps revealed her unusual sorrow.
Behind Ye Xiaohan as she walked away, a person dressed quite ordinarily quietly followed her. If someone from Fortune Restaurant were there, they would recognize this person as the one who had previously delivered a message to Ye Xiaohan.
This individual trailed behind Ye Xiaohan all the way. He blended seamlessly into the crowd around him, as if he had always been there.
He might have fooled most people, but he could not deceive Ye Xiaohan, who had always possessed keen instincts.
Initially, after being turned away by Liu Bei, Ye Xiaohan's emotions were tumultuous; in her agitation, she paid little attention to her surroundings. However, she quickly managed to regain her composure.
Once she calmed down a bit, she sensed that something was off behind her. Instead of looking back, Ye Xiaohan pretended to be overly distraught and began to wander aimlessly instead of following her usual route home.
After making a complete circle, she noticed that the person behind her was still following at a distance. Ye Xiaohan was now certain that this individual was specifically tracking her.
Although she did not know who this person was or which faction they belonged to, she found it hard to believe that such sneaky behavior could be friendly rather than hostile.
Regardless of which side this person came from, their purpose in following her was clear: to keep tabs on Ye Xiaohan's movements.
Ye Xiaohan let out a cold snort. She had been holding in a lot of anger and was looking for an outlet. Since someone wanted to watch, she might as well give them a good show.
Taking the opportunity to wipe her tears with a handkerchief, Ye Xiaohan applied some irritating powder to the corners of her eyes and pressed on the acupoints around her eyes. Instantly, her tears flowed down like pearls that had broken free from their string.
The thin handkerchief quickly became soaked with tears. To anyone watching, Ye Xiaohan's tearful appearance looked like she was heartbroken, sobbing uncontrollably.
When she reached the entrance of the mansion, Ye Xiaohan pushed the door open forcefully, creating a series of loud noises. Once back in her room, she smashed the table and threw chairs around, scattering everything movable across the floor.
By the time her family rushed over to investigate the commotion, the place was already in disarray. Ye Xiaohan stood at the center of the chaos, crying loudly.
"What happened? Sister-in-law, what's wrong? Please, don't cry!" Yang stammered in fear. In his mind, Ye Xiaohan could be violent and fierce at times, but he had never seen her cry like this, tears streaming down her face.
Others were equally startled and gathered around to ask what had happened.
Ye Xiaohan raised her tear-filled eyes and glanced at the large tree outside the wall of the mansion. She couldn't see anything specific, but her intuition told her someone was watching.
If they wanted to watch, then let them. It would be a good way to draw out the snake from its hole. Although she had no evidence, there was one person who stood out as the prime suspect in her mind—Liu Yuan, who seemed to have an inexplicable fixation on her.
Just dealing with Yang Bei was enough of a headache; now Liu Yuan had to come around at this moment—he was practically asking for trouble!
Ye Xiaohan hadn't yet figured out how to deal with Yang Bei's sudden change in behavior.
But when it came to Liu Yuan, she had already thought of a hundred ways to torment him!
