Gu Da stood up to express his gratitude. "Thank you, Liu, the Manager."
"Ha ha, you're too polite," Willow Brows waved her hand dismissively. "Alright, tell me everything in detail so I can think of a good plan to deal with this."
The letter had only briefly mentioned the situation, and Willow Brows was not fully aware of the specifics. Gu Da recounted everything to her, and after listening, she furrowed her delicate brows and fell into deep thought.
Gu Da understood that she was contemplating and chose not to disturb her, quietly waiting on the side.
Laughter and chatter from downstairs drifted up but did not reach the ears of the two in the room.
After a while, Willow Brows relaxed her brow, smiled again, and her expression became more at ease.
Seeing her demeanor, Gu Da knew she had come up with an idea.
"I wonder what good plan Liu, the Manager has? If there's anything you need me to do, just say the word; I will do my best."
Gu Da asked, knowing that this matter could not be delayed; the sooner it was resolved, the better.
Willow Brows replied with a smile, "Leave this matter to me. I may not have many skills, but I won't let down the general's orders for something like this. Now lean in close."
Gu Da complied, and Willow Brows whispered her plan into his ear. He nodded in agreement, indicating he had no objections.
"Alright then, we'll proceed according to Liu, the Manager's method."
Gu Da only sought results; as long as he fulfilled the general's command, everything else was secondary.
As for working under a woman, while it might cause some dissatisfaction for most men, Gu Da paid it no mind. To him, as long as one had capability, anyone could hold their ground.
Willow Brows was quite pleased with his attitude. She stood up and walked to the door, calling someone in to relay a message. Soon, a delicate woman entered.
As soon as the woman saw Gu Da, she fluttered her handkerchief and playfully covered her mouth while laughing, "Manager Liu, I am a pure and innocent woman. You can't force me into such a situation."
While saying this, she leaned softly against Gu Da, throwing him a flirtatious glance. "But if it's such a handsome brother, I might be willing to make an exception."
Gu Da remained unfazed, as if he were merely leaning against a wall or a piece of wood. He turned to Willow Brows and asked, "Is this the young lady?"
Willow Brows smiled and replied, "Yes, indeed. Yanyan, don't waste your efforts. No matter how much you try to charm him, Brother Gu won't even glance your way. Save your energy."
"Tch!" The woman named Yanyan instantly dropped her previous flirtatious demeanor and began cracking peanuts on the table with her feet propped up.
"What does the shopkeeper want me to do this time? Just so you know, I'm not going to play along with that old man anymore. At his age, wanting to play with young girls? He doesn't deserve it! Just looking at his wrinkled face makes me lose my appetite!"
Yanyan rattled off her complaints while tossing peanut shells all over the floor.
Willow Brows pointed at Gu Da and said, "This time you won't be bullied. Look, your 'husband' is this Brother Gu. Are you satisfied?"
"Really?" Yanyan tossed aside the peanut shells and wiped her hands clean. She excitedly pulled Gu Da closer to inspect him from left to right before turning back to Willow Brows and said, "You can't be lying this time! Otherwise, it won't be so easy for you to make me work for you again!"
Willow Brows seemed accustomed to Yanyan's personality. Seeing her like this was nothing new; however, she was surprised by Gu Da's calm demeanor and felt even more satisfied.
"I'm not lying this time," Willow Brows said. "You and Brother Gu are indeed married now. However, you'll still need to use your charm to entice another man."
Yanyan feigned anger and said, "You just said you wouldn't deceive me anymore! Now you're doing it again? I already have a 'husband,' and now you want me to seduce another man? Isn't that putting me in a difficult position? I'm not that kind of fickle woman!"
After complaining to Willow Brows, she turned to Gu Da and pouted, "Husband, you believe me, right? You must trust me and not let that wicked woman sow discord between us!"
Willow Brows smiled at Gu Da, "So, what do you think? Does Brother Gu find her acceptable? This girl is new here and not many have seen her. She's perfect for this task; no one will suspect a thing."
Gu Da chuckled, "Miss Yanyan is stunning; I’m sure she can captivate that person. I hope Miss Yanyan will put in extra effort for this mission."
"Hmph!" Yanyan pouted, "You two just like to bully me. I won't talk to you anymore!"
As a result, Willow Brows and Gu Da began discussing the specifics of their plan without acknowledging her, which made Yanyan stomp her feet in frustration.
Willow Brows' plan was neither too complicated nor too simple; it could be summarized in three words.
A honey trap.
Indeed, Willow Brows suggested that Yanyan find an opportunity to deliberately run into Liu Yuan's attendant and flirt with him. The attendant had no significant weaknesses except for one major flaw—he was fond of beautiful women.
With Yanyan's beauty and charm, it wouldn't be a problem to make the attendant dizzy with infatuation.
Afterward, Yanyan would lure the attendant to a secluded spot, where Gu Da would pose as Yanyan's husband and catch them in the act, intimidating the attendant into revealing Liu Yuan's crimes.
Gu Da said, "This attendant has been with Liu Yuan for a long time; he’s one of his trusted aides. Liu Yuan usually takes him along for his tasks, so he must know quite a few secrets."
Willow Brows nodded in agreement, "You make a valid point. It's even possible that Liu Yuan sent him to participate in this matter."
"That possibility makes it even better; I was worried about finding clues." Gu Da sighed inwardly as he thought about the general's situation. If this issue wasn't resolved soon, it was uncertain who would fall first.
Yanyan watched as they continued to discuss matters, feeling completely lost beside them. However, all she needed to do was focus on the tasks assigned by the Shopkeeper; everything else was beyond her concern, and she couldn't be bothered to interfere.
After finalizing the details of the plan, Gu Da hurried back home that night to review the collected information about the Attendants, ensuring that everything was flawless.
Yanyan yawned and decided to return to her room for some rest, wanting to recharge so she could charm men with a vibrant spirit.
Meanwhile, Willow Brows stood alone in the empty elegant room. After a while, she took out the letters she had organized earlier. Instead of opening them, she simply stared at the envelopes, lost in thought, before heading downstairs to greet the guests loudly.
The next day dawned without sunshine; the sky was overcast, as if rain could fall at any moment.
There were fewer pedestrians on the streets than usual, and the vendors by the roadside had little business, gathering together to chat idly.
"Hey, hey! Look at that girl over there; she's really beautiful! I've never seen such a pretty girl before. She must be a fairy come down from heaven!"
A vendor selling Mung Bean Cakes nudged a nearby vendor who sold Accessories, pointing towards a stall selling calligraphy and paintings where a woman stood, enchanting and ethereal like smoke and mist.
As if sensing their gaze, the woman turned her head gracefully, her eyes sparkling as she caught sight of the vendors and smiled slightly with her lips covered.
It was none other than Yanyan from the Emerald Red Pavilion.
"She's looking at me! She's looking at me!" exclaimed the Mung Bean Cake vendor excitedly.
"Don't be ridiculous; she's clearly looking at me!"
The accessory vendor retorted, convinced that it was he who had captured the beauty's attention with his charm.
The vendor cast a disdainful glance at him. "Look at you, like a mangy dog! Only a blind girl would notice you! Hey, who’s that man walking over to the girl?"
"You’re the one who looks like a mangy dog! Let me see... he looks familiar. Yes, that’s right, he’s from the Liu Residence—Liu Gongzi's attendant, Wu Si!"
The vendor slapped his forehead as he recalled.
Gu Da had spent the entire night reviewing the documents that had been sent over, thoroughly understanding Liu Yuan's habits. He also dispatched someone to keep an eye on Wu Si. When he saw Wu Si preparing to go out, he immediately informed Willow Brows and Yanyan.
Yanyan arrived ahead of time at a spot along Wu Si's path, waiting for her prey to walk right into her trap.
Gu Da's sources were quite accurate; Wu Si was indeed lecherous and had a particular fondness for beauties like Yanyan. The moment he laid eyes on her, his gaze became fixated on her, unable to look away.
Wu Si pretended to stroll casually over to Yanyan's side, feigning interest in the paintings as he nodded and commented on them, hoping to showcase his knowledge and pique the interest of the beauty beside him.
Yanyan did not disappoint him. Upon hearing his comments, she turned to look at him with an expression of admiration.
"This young master knows so much; you must be very learned," Yanyan said, gazing up at Wu Si with her head slightly tilted back, exposing her fair neck.
Wu Si's eyes remained glued to that patch of white skin, unwilling to shift his gaze. Not wanting to appear too eager and scare off the beauty, he forced himself to look away and adopted a scholarly demeanor.
"Not at all; these are merely trivial skills, nothing worth mentioning!"
Though he spoke calmly, his demeanor betrayed him—he was clearly anxious to impress, and anyone could see it.
