Feng Liulang's face changed, his eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at Xia Muxin. Suddenly, he turned and left in a huff.
After such a commotion, Xia Muxin was already so hungry that her stomach was pressed against her back. Summer Forest and the others wanted to say something, but she interrupted them, saying, "Eating is the most important thing."
She then walked straight to Songzi's back where her Backpack was, dragging some Game Meat into her home. First, she washed a bit of rice, packed it in a bamboo tube, covered it with her designed Active Lid, and placed it in the pot to cook.
Next, she casually grabbed a wild chicken weighing about three pounds from the Backpack. Holding her Machete, she squatted down on the right side of the doorway.
She was quite skilled at killing chickens; with a swift motion of her knife, she cut its neck, letting the blood drip into a bowl filled with water. Once the blood had flowed enough, she tossed the chicken aside and went inside to scoop hot water from a wooden barrel.
When she entered the house, the chicken was still alive and struggling on the ground. However, it soon lay there motionless and gasping for breath.
Xia Muxin quickly tossed it into the wooden barrel. Grabbing its feet, she dipped it into the boiling water for a moment before starting to pluck its feathers. Once she finished plucking the feathers, the rice in the pot was also ready, so she fished out the bamboo tube.
With no other knives at home, she used her Machete to chop the cleaned chicken into large pieces. She then sliced four pieces of ginger and stir-fried them to extract some oil before adding water and covering the pot to let it cook.
Unfortunately, they didn’t have any tools for making soup at home, so she had to make do with a pot. Once the chicken soup was ready, she stir-fried the chicken offal using the oil rendered from frying the chicken.
"Sis, what are you cooking? It smells so good!" Songzi had just finished cleaning up some mess outside with their parents when he caught a whiff of an enticing aroma at the door. He couldn't quite describe what kind of smell it was; all he knew was that his mouth was watering uncontrollably. He rushed over to the stove and saw Xia Muxin busying herself. As he added firewood, he glanced at the nearly finished chicken offal and swallowed hard as he asked.
There wasn't much rice left at home; Aunt Xia had ground some cornmeal last night. At that moment, Xia Muxin was preparing corn paste. Seeing Songzi staring at the pot while swallowing his saliva made her heart warm up instantly. She said, "Songzi, go tidy up; it's almost time for dinner."
Songzi cheerfully went to prepare after hearing that. Xia Muxin dished out the chicken offal and stir-fried a plate of fresh wild vegetables before starting to make Corn Soup over a strong fire.
After a few rounds, Summer Forest had generally understood Xia Muxin's temperament, so he didn't ask much and just focused on his work.
Soon, the family enjoyed a hearty meal together, and the taste lingered in Songzi's mouth for quite a while. Finally, patting his belly, he said, "Sister, you should open a restaurant in Town; I guarantee no one will go to any other place to eat."
Xia Muxin let out an unrefined burp, wrinkled her nose, and gave Songzi a light tap before saying, "Songzi, later put these Fava Beans in the bucket to soak; the water needs to cover the Fava Beans." After that, she turned to Summer Forest and said, "Dad, later we’ll go to Town to sell this Firewood and Game Meat."
"Sister, it took so long to dry these Fava Beans, and now you want me to soak them? They'll spoil," Summer Forest said regarding the Fava Beans. Although everyone felt some regret over the lost money, they didn't blame anyone. However, when Xia Muxin mentioned it now, they were even more confused.
"You don’t understand; once the Orchid Beans come out, your sister will definitely make a fortune."
