She packed up the remaining twenty or so and prepared to take some home for her family.
Using three sheets of oil paper, she wrapped the Scallion Pancakes, with about eight to nine in each. At that moment, she took one oil paper package from the Bamboo Basket, gently opened it, and a strong aroma of scallions wafted out. Summer Forest awkwardly swallowed a few times.
“Dad, this is really delicious,” Xia Muxin said, noticing her father's discomfort. She handed him one and poured him a cup of tea to set beside him.
Summer Forest's face turned slightly red as he took a bite of the pancake. His eyes widened immediately, and he exclaimed, “Muxin, what is this? It smells amazing! This flavor is the best I've ever had.” He took another hearty bite.
Xia Muxin also took one out and ate it slowly while replying, “Dad, this is called Scallion Pancakes. From now on, Muxin can make them for you every day.”
Her voice was sweet and clear, like a gentle stream flowing over stones, very pleasant to hear. Whenever she spoke with her family, she always wore a smile; her eyes sparkled like crescent moons in the sky, bringing joy to those who looked at her.
Their warm conversation was overheard by Shen Muhan, who had just entered. A strange glimmer flashed in his eyes as he remained silent. Suddenly, Su Yan-Chu's voice echoed from afar.
“Wow, what are you eating? It smells so good!” Following that, Su Yan-Chu's figure boldly squeezed through the doorway and rushed over to Xia Muxin and Summer Forest.
Xia Muxin quickly wrapped up the oil paper package and tossed it into the basket, lifting it to her side. Seeing Su Yan-Chu's eyes gleaming at the oil paper package in the basket, she gritted her teeth and pulled out a Scallion Pancake to hand over. “Since you provided the ingredients, you can have this one.”
At that moment, Su Yan-Chu's mind was filled with calculations and business opportunities. He grabbed the Scallion Pancake without hesitation and took a big bite. Within moments, he devoured it hungrily and then stared longingly at the basket.
Xia Muxin knew exactly what he was thinking and moved the basket closer to herself while glaring at him in warning. “Don’t even think about it.”
"Cough, cough, cough..." Summer Forest watched as his daughter treated the head of the household this way, and he was suddenly choked up by Scallion Pancakes, coughing urgently until his face turned red.
But when he reached for the cup of water beside him, his hand trembled uncontrollably, and with a sharp sound, the cup fell to the ground and shattered into several pieces.
This scene caught the attention of Xia Muxin, who was trying to help him. She immediately grabbed his hand and angrily said, "Dad, did that woman hit you?"
There were several bruises on his wrists, but Xia Muxin had been too focused on his face to notice his hands. Moreover, as soon as he entered the room, his gaze had flickered, and he kept his hands hidden under a thin blanket, seemingly not wanting her to worry.
"Muxin, Dad is fine."
"Do me a favor and let Sister Tang take a look at Dad's hands. I'll give you all the Scallion Pancakes."
Summer Forest wanted to comfort Xia Muxin, but he saw her glance at Su Yan-Chu before she spoke lightly.
Su Yan-Chu understood the gravity of the situation and momentarily set aside her playful demeanor. However, before she could turn around, they heard Sister Tang's voice complaining.
