"Um..."
Creak—
"Ouch..."
Creak—
"Miss?"
"Um..."
"Miss, are you awake?" Liu Ying cautiously asked from outside the door. After all, the young master had instructed her in the morning not to disturb the young lady and to let her sleep a little longer. But there were clearly sounds coming from inside the room; should she go in or not?
Liu Lvy, seeing Liu Ying looking at her, shrugged and shook her head. She didn't know either.
"Miss?" Liu Ying called out again tentatively. If there was no response this time, then...
"Ouyang Zixin? Come in... I'm awake," Ouyang Zixin's lazy voice came from inside, sounding as if she had just woken up and was still a bit groggy.
Hearing this, Liu Ying and Liu Lu pushed the door open, while a nearby maid carrying hot water followed them inside.
Ouyang Zixin slowly climbed out of bed, rubbed her sleepy eyes, which revealed a hint of confusion. However, upon seeing Liu Ying and Liu Lu, she waved them over to help her wash up, not thinking about anything that felt off.
"Just put it down; you can go out now," Liu Ying instructed the maid to set down the items before closing the door again. They knew Ouyang Zixin's habits; even though she was now married, she still preferred to have them assist her with washing up rather than relying on others.
"Did you sleep well, Miss?" Liu Lvy gathered Ouyang Zixin's messy hair together, casually tying it up for now and planning to style it properly after she washed up. While helping her with her hair, she thought about what kind of hair accessories would be suitable for her now that she was Consort Mo; it wouldn't do to just tie it back in a ponytail—that would be too casual.
Ouyang Zixin rubbed her neck, feeling somewhat stiff. She muttered, "Not at all. What's wrong with this bed? I felt uncomfortable turning over this morning."
Liu Ying and Liu Lu stifled their laughter upon hearing this. After last night, it was only natural for the young lady to feel uncomfortable; however, they couldn't mention it since that would embarrass her.
"What should we have for breakfast?" Ouyang Zixin felt a bit hungry. She had no idea what time it was when she was chatting with Yun Tianmo last night, and now her stomach felt empty.
"Miss, breakfast is ready. Would you like it served in your room as usual, or...?"
Liu Lvy was about to ask whether to serve it in the room or in the main hall, especially since today was the first day Miss would take charge as the head of the household. However, before she could finish her sentence, Ouyang Zixin waved her hand and said, "What do you mean or? Of course, I want to eat in my room."
"Huh?" Liu Ying, while tidying up Ouyang Zixin's bed, let out a puzzled sound. She hesitated and turned around to look at Ouyang Zixin's back with a conflicted expression.
Liu Lvy mouthed a question to her about what was wrong, but Liu Ying just shook her head, completely unsure of what she wanted to say.
"What's wrong?" Noticing the small movements behind her, Ouyang Zixin propped her head up and thought to herself that she definitely couldn't chat so late in the future.
"Um, Miss..." Liu Ying's voice sounded strange, almost as if she were about to cry.
"What’s going on? Don't stutter so early in the morning!"
"Well, you and the Young Master... um... the white handkerchief..." Liu Ying wanted to speak plainly, but how could she bring herself to say it? Should she just ask directly if Miss had lost her virginity last night?
Heavens, how could she possibly say something like that?!
Liu Lvy was also confused. Just a moment ago, Liu Ying seemed fine; now she couldn't even speak properly. Seeing that Miss had nearly finished getting ready, she walked over and tugged at Liu Ying's sleeve, saying, "What’s wrong with you? You were fine just now..."
"…"
"Ah?!" When Liu Lvy heard what Liu Ying whispered in her ear, her face immediately turned red as if she were holding something back and became quite flustered.
At that moment, Ouyang Zixin finally sensed something was off. She turned to look at the two of them and noticed their glances occasionally darting toward the big bed. She asked, "Is there something wrong with my bed?"
Liu Ying and Liu Lvy nodded at first and then shook their heads. But both maids were young ladies themselves and didn't know how to ask certain things.
They remembered how cheerful the Young Master had been when he left this morning; everyone assumed last night must have been a wonderful night. However, even so, the white handkerchief used for recording any signs of losing virginity still needed to be accounted for. After all, Miss was marrying into a prince's family—every detail mattered.
Now there is actually nothing...
Liu Ying was understandably anxious and on the verge of tears.
"What happened?" Ouyang Zixin had already lost her patience. She felt tired and hungry, and seeing the two maids acting strangely made her abruptly stand up and walk straight to the bedside.
Her gaze swept across the large bed, which had been tidied up by Liu Ying. There was nothing wrong, except for the handkerchief that had somehow appeared on the bright red bedding.
"Is this yours?" Ouyang Zixin asked, picking up the handkerchief with both hands and looking at Liu Ying. Since morning, she was the only one who had touched the bed. This handkerchief was neither Ouyang Zixin's nor Yun Tianmo's, so it must belong to Liu Ying.
"No, no, it's not..." At this point, Liu Ying was truly about to cry. Did the young lady genuinely not know or was she doing this on purpose? But even if the young lady didn't know, her husband should have known...
Liu Lvy could no longer stand by. With Liu Ying's temperament, this matter would likely become unclear if it continued like this. She stomped her foot and gritted her teeth, saying, "Young lady, this white handkerchief is a record of the first night..."
The first night?
Ouyang Zixin's hand holding the white handkerchief suddenly froze, and her impatience turned into shock. She looked at the handkerchief, then at the tearful Liu Ying, and finally at Liu Lvy who was covering her face. A dry throat emitted a gurgling sound as she asked, "You mean this is...?"
Liu Ying nodded.
Boom—
Ouyang Zixin felt like smoke was about to come out of her head. Her face felt burning hot; she was truly embarrassed for even asking if that handkerchief belonged to Liu Ying...
The three of them exchanged glances, none of them looking good. Two were filled with fear and anxiety while one was overwhelmed with shame...
After about a cup of tea's worth of silence, it was Ouyang Zixin who finally broke the stalemate—
"Haha, haha, hahaha... Well, last night..." Ouyang Zixin suddenly remembered that this wasn't her Yuexin Pavilion but Yun Residence's Yuexin Pavilion. She quickly lowered her voice and said, "We didn't do anything; we were just chatting under the quilt..."
"..."
Now it was the two maids' turn to be dumbfounded. What did it mean—chatting under the covers?!
What happened to the wedding night?
What happened to the first night’s blood?
Could it be that the groom, who left in the morning with a radiant face, was just a figment of their imagination?
“Shh!” Seeing that Liu Ying was about to speak again, Ouyang Zixin hurriedly made a shushing gesture and said, “There are some things you shouldn’t ask about. Just don’t ask. I know what I’m doing!”
“But…” Liu Ying knew that as a maid, there were some matters she shouldn’t pry into. However, the matron of the house was supposed to record the first night’s blood; how could they explain that?
“Is the princess awake?”
Just as they were talking, the Housekeeper's voice came from outside the door.
“Yes, yes, she’s awake.” Liu Ying quickly replied, glancing at Ouyang Zixin to ensure her appearance was fine before going to open the door.
The Housekeeper walked in with a smile. Upon seeing Ouyang Zixin standing by the bed, he first stepped forward to bow respectfully and then introduced himself, not missing the white handkerchief peeking out from behind Ouyang Zixin.
“The prince instructed before leaving that everything should revolve around the princess. Those rules are merely man-made; they don’t matter.”
Only then did the three in the room breathe a sigh of relief. Fortunately, the matron came to clarify the situation; otherwise, they would have been extremely worried, as this was no small matter. (To be continued.)
