Bai Su looked incredulously at the elderly man standing in the hall, his white hair and hunched back causing her tears to flow uncontrollably as she cried out and rushed towards him.
The old man turned upon hearing the sound and saw a figure rushing towards him. Although it had been over a decade since they last met, he recognized her at a glance—his daughter, Bai Su.
Ouyang Hao stood silently to the side. He had met Bai Su's mother before; if it weren't for this elderly woman, he might never have been able to bring Bai Su out. So when Lin Ma mentioned that the person was her, he couldn't bring himself to refuse entry into the estate.
After more than twenty years without seeing each other, there was naturally much to say upon their reunion. Ouyang Hao tactfully stepped aside to give them space to catch up.
"Zi Yi, have you found out if the Bai Ethnic Group that entered the imperial capital this time consists solely of the Matriarch?" Ouyang Hao did not believe that the Matriarch would come alone. The current head of the Bai Clan was still Bai Zhan; there was no way he would allow the Matriarch to travel alone. He needed to identify all those monitoring the area.
Dressed in gray, Zi Yi stepped behind Ouyang Hao and cupped his fists in greeting. "My lord, on the surface, there are six people from the Bai Clan who have entered the imperial capital: the Matriarch and the Five Elders. As for the attendants and maids accompanying them, there are no fewer than thirty."
As for those hidden in the shadows, figuring them out wouldn't be difficult, but it wouldn't be quick.
"Elders?" Ouyang Hao was taken aback. Hadn't the elders of the Bai Clan retired after Bai Zhan became the clan leader? Why were they all appearing now, even coming to the imperial capital of Exiled Nation? What were they planning?
He dismissed Zi Yi, instructing him to investigate those hidden in the shadows thoroughly, especially to find out about Bai Zhan's people. That individual was cunning and ruthless. A moment's carelessness could lead to trouble; after all, Bai Su and he had suffered greatly at his hands in the past.

"Mother, why have you come?" After so many years, Bai Su looked at her aging mother with a pang of sorrow in her heart. If it hadn't been for circumstances beyond her control back then, she would never have left her elderly mother behind.
Madam Bai sat in a position of honor in Bai Su's room. Her gaze towards Bai Su was filled with love. This was her most cherished youngest daughter; she never expected that in her lifetime she would step out of that ancestral hall and see her daughter whom she had missed for over a decade. Tears flowed down her cheeks once again.
The elderly woman's health had always been poor, and after the long journey, Bai Su dared not let her worry. She quickly got up to pour tea and comforted her, "Mother, please have some tea. You mustn't cry anymore; it would be terrible if your eyes were ruined from weeping."
"Lin Ma, quickly prepare the side room for the Matriarch to rest," Bai Su instructed Lin Ma, who was waiting outside the door. Now that her mother had come, she must show her filial piety and ensure that she would not suffer any longer. Over the years, although Ouyang Hao had tried to keep things from her, they had been married for over a decade, and there were some things Bai Su was aware of. However, since Ouyang Hao did not want her to be sad, she pretended not to know.
Ever since Ouyang Hao had brought her out of the Bai Clan, Bai Zhan had imprisoned her mother. More than ten years had passed in the blink of an eye, and now being able to see her mother was a tremendous blessing. She could not allow Bai Zhan to continue mistreating her mother.
Lin Ma acknowledged and went to prepare the room.
"Susu, my dear daughter, I’m so sorry..." The elderly woman might have held back her emotions during the journey, but upon seeing her daughter, she could no longer contain herself. Her wrinkled hand gently caressed Bai Su's face, filled with sorrow. "My precious daughter, I missed seeing you at your most beautiful time. Now that you have your own family and children, I can see you one last time before I die; I have no regrets."
"Mother, please don't say such ominous things. You still need to enjoy your old age," Bai Su held her mother's dry hand and thought about how much her mother had suffered over the years. She should have been the most respected person in the clan, but unfortunately encountered a heartless wolf who caused her mother to age prematurely.
"Alright, alright. I will listen to you. I haven't met my granddaughter yet," the White Old Woman wiped away her tears and smiled lovingly as she remembered that she had yet to meet her granddaughter. She urged Bai Su to bring the child to see her.
However, Ouyang Zixin was currently in the Millennium Ruins and could not be seen at all. After Bai Su explained for a while, the elderly woman finally calmed down and began happily thinking about what kind of gifts she should prepare for their meeting.
Seeing the Matriarch's joyful expression made Bai Su feel troubled. Although she hadn't explicitly mentioned the Bai Clan in front of Xin'er over the years, Xin'er still knew something about it. She wondered how Xin'er would react when faced with this suddenly appearing grandmother.
Bai Su still had feelings for her mother and was grateful for what her mother had done for her back then. However, because of this gratitude, she felt guilty for having caused her mother's suffering. For these years, it seemed as though she had avoided mentioning her mother in public out of guilt; she often shed tears alone in remembrance. Even Ouyang Hao did not know this; only Lin Ma, who stayed by Bai Su's side, was aware of it.
After a while, Lin Ma returned with news that the side room was ready for the Matriarch to rest.
Bai Su personally helped her mother to the side room and gave her a series of instructions before leaving with Lin Ma, leaving Liu Ying and Liu Lu behind to attend to her needs.
"Do you think this is useful?" Bai Su stood outside her mother's room, still feeling a bit uneasy.
Lin Ma looked around to ensure no one was watching before she supported Bai Su and said, "Madam, please rest assured. I have already instructed Liu Ying and Liu Lu. They are smart girls and have been serving by the Matriarch's side for a few days. When the young lady returns, they will be able to assist her in conversation."
Bai Su nodded, her worries easing somewhat. "It has been wrong of me to hide this from Xin'er for so many years. I truly... I never expected to see my mother again." As she spoke, Bai Su raised her hand to press at the corner of her eyes; she had to meet Ouyang Hao later, and she couldn't let her eyes be red and puffy. She forced herself to suppress the sadness and hold back the tears.
"Madam, there is something I hesitate to say," Lin Ma said, glancing at Bai Su with uncertainty. She had thought long and hard before deciding to speak up.
Bai Su paused, stiffening her back awkwardly as she approached her door. She pressed Lin Ma's hand gently, signaling that they could discuss it inside.
Once inside, Lin Ma carefully closed the door behind them and approached Bai Su cautiously. "Madam, forgive me, but I feel that the Matriarch's sudden appearance may not be a good thing."
"Impudent!" Bai Su raised an eyebrow, her phoenix eyes narrowing slightly. The aura of authority that had not been present for many years suddenly filled the room, causing Lin Ma's legs to weaken as she fell to her knees with a thud.
"Madam, forgive me! I only dared to speak such rebellious words for your sake and the young lady's. Madam, it has been over a decade since the Young Master imprisoned the Matriarch. How could she suddenly be released now, especially coming to the Exiled Nation to find you..." Lin Ma prostrated on the ground, each word dripping with sorrow. Even as Bai Su felt anger rising within her, she couldn't help but be moved.
"Lin Ma, sigh... enough. You may leave," Bai Su said as she supported her forehead with one hand. She had considered Lin Ma's words; it was just that she didn't want to admit it. After all these years, would her mother have changed?
Lin Ma trembled as she got up, wiping away the tears on her face. Before turning to leave, she cast a deep glance at Bai Su and thought to herself, Madam, if only you hadn't been so sentimental back then...
