Inside the cave, the battle was intense, but outside, things were equally tumultuous as the fight against the Howling Twin-headed Serpent had begun.
Led by Baike, their side acted according to their earlier plan, flanking the Howling Twin-headed Serpent from both sides. In the night, the Mysterious Energy and the serpent's crimson tongue emitted a dazzling glow that filled the air.
As Baike circled behind the Howling Twin-headed Serpent, she spotted Ning Zhiyuan and Liu Lvy. Without hesitation, she decisively launched an attack. A beam of Mysterious Energy, faintly glowing yellow, shot straight towards the serpent's Seven Inches. Just as it was about to strike its vital point, the Mystical Beast unleashed some unknown power that dissipated the Mysterious Energy.
Seeing this, Baike felt a chill in her heart and furrowed her brows tightly. With a sharp shout, she unleashed another wave of Mysterious Energy.
The Howling Twin-headed Serpent was already troubled by the two guards; now sensing an attack from behind, it became furious. The serpent coiled and executed a swift counterattack, its tail aimed directly at Baike, poised to pierce her forehead.
"Young Master," Liu Lvy remarked, showing little concern for Baike's life. However, if Baike were to die now, it would undoubtedly bring unnecessary trouble for the young lady. Thus, she turned to Ning Zhiyuan and suggested he might need to intervene.
Yet Ning Zhiyuan remained oblivious, standing still with an unreadable glint in his eyes, completely ignoring Liu Lvy.
Baike had entered a secret realm before and was no novice in cultivation. When the Howling Twin-headed Serpent launched its sudden counterattack, she narrowly avoided it; however, the serpent's tail grazed her shoulder, causing droplets of blood to splatter.
"Beast!" Baike had always held herself in high regard; being injured by a Mystical Beast was unacceptable to her. Anger ignited within her as she shouted for her two guards to give their all.
"Did you see that? Why are you so anxious? It hasn't even gone all out," Ning Zhiyuan commented nonchalantly. Though it seemed directed at Liu Lvy, his voice was loud enough for Baike and her companions to hear.
Liu Lvy sighed inwardly at her naivety regarding these noble ladies. How many of them were truly simple-minded? It seemed that someone like the young lady who took everything lightly was indeed rare.
After watching for a while longer and seeing that the Howling Twin-headed Serpent was handling things with ease while Baike and her group were losing their initial confidence, they found themselves in a tight spot.
"What are you waiting for?" Baike exclaimed anxiously as she had sustained several wounds from the Howling Twin-headed Serpent and could no longer maintain her composed demeanor.
They had clearly agreed on cooperation; why were they just standing by watching? If this continued, what was there to discuss about cooperation?
Ning Zhiyuan smirked slightly and said loudly, "Miss Bai is talking about cooperation?"
The Howling Twin-headed Serpent seemed to have some method at its disposal; it appeared aware of everything happening behind it as if it had three tongues. It dealt with Baike's attacks effortlessly. Hearing Ning Zhiyuan's mockery made Baike's face flush red momentarily before she regained her composure and retorted sharply, "This is not the time for idle banter."
The plan was seen through, and how could Baike not feel embarrassed? However, this was not the time for embarrassment; rather, it was crucial for them to act quickly.
Otherwise, forget about "dividing the spoils," it might even be uncertain who would win or lose.
Ning Zhiyuan was not in a hurry at all; instead, he stood there bargaining with Baike, and before making a move, he began to inquire about what benefits they could gain afterward.
This nearly made Baike spit blood.
Once upon a time, in the Yuhai Continent among the Three Great Empires, such shameless individuals had actually appeared. They openly bargained, wanting benefits before taking action.
Naturally, Ning Zhiyuan was unaware of Baike's inner thoughts; even if he knew, he probably wouldn't care.
Liu Lvy, standing nearby, wanted to laugh but felt that the atmosphere was not appropriate for it, so she could only hold back. To distract herself, she redirected the release of Mysterious Energy towards the cave.
"Young Master! The young lady..." Liu Lvy's call immediately drew the attention of both Ning Zhiyuan and Baike.
Ning Zhiyuan was concerned about what might happen to Ouyang Zixin in the cave without the Mystical Beast that made Liu Lvy so panicked; while Baike focused on Ning Zhiyuan's reaction. This person did not seem like a gentleman at all; unexpectedly, he showed such concern for Ouyang Zixin's well-being.
What exactly was their relationship? It seemed he had heard Ouyang Zixin refer to him as "distant elder brother"...
Baike's distraction led her to be targeted by the Howling Twin-headed Serpent. With a flick of its tail, it wrapped her up entirely and lifted her into the air.
At this moment, the Howling Twin-headed Serpent formed a half-arc shape, with its head and tail in the air while its long body remained on the ground. The two guards saw their Legitimate Young Lady being captured by Xiaoshen and immediately slowed their movements, reducing their strength considerably.
"Legitimate Young Lady!"
"Legitimate Young Lady... you beast!"
The two guards were so anxious that their eyes turned red; they roared loudly in frustration.
Ning Zhiyuan watched in amazement. A typically arrogant Legitimate Young Lady actually received genuine concern from her guards—this was truly rare.
Unfortunately, Ning Zhiyuan had misjudged the situation.
The two guards did not genuinely support Baike; they were simply eager to see him meet an unfortunate end, as that would mean they could save their own lives. In their desperation, they were almost ready to pounce and tear the Howling Twin-headed Serpent to pieces.
Just as Baike found himself in crisis, the commotion within the cave gradually subsided. Liu Lvy bit her lip tightly, unwilling to say another word, but the slight redness around her eyes betrayed her emotions at that moment.
Ning Zhiyuan also sensed something was off, but his focus remained outside the cave. The hunt for the High-Level Mystic Beast was no trivial matter. He could scheme against Baike, but that did not mean he was willing to be outsmarted by a Mystical Beast.
Thus, he was even less aware of the specific situation inside the cave than Liu Lvy was.
It wasn't until Ouyang Zixin emerged from the cave, covered in blood and dragging Liu Ying with her, that he finally shifted his attention away from the Mystical Beast. He stared at Ouyang Zixin in shock and murmured, "Xin'er Girl, you..."
Don't blame Ning Zhiyuan for his reaction; even Baike, who had been swept into the air by the Howling Twin-headed Serpent, was momentarily stunned.
"How could this happen..."
Baike's voice went unnoticed by anyone else; the answers to her confusion would have to be sought by her alone.
Once outside the cave, Ouyang Zixin finally had a moment to lift her weary arm and wipe the blood from her face. She let out a cold laugh and said, "Cooperation? Ha, how amusing. Truly amusing."
As soon as she spoke those words, Ning Zhiyuan immediately swung his hand toward Baike in midair. If it weren't for Ouyang Zixin's timely intervention, Baike might not have died at the hands of the so-called alien Mystical Beast but rather at the hands of her own kind. (To be continued.)
