Before Ouyang Zixin could fully express her excitement, a blinding light flashed by. When the light faded, there was no sign of the old woman; instead, all that could be seen were rolling green hills.
What was going on? Was that it?
What happened to the promised sense of space travel? Why didn’t the old woman recite a long and complicated incantation? What about all those dramatic twists and turns, the tearing of space, and the near-death experiences that are often mentioned in TV shows and books for passing through space?
A flash of white light, and they were just there? This was even less exciting than what was portrayed on television! Was this some kind of joke?
Ouyang Hao was unaware of his daughter's inner complaints. He thought she was just young and had never encountered such profound mystical arts, so he hurried over to check on her, worried that Ouyang Zixin might be traumatized.
“No incantation? We were sent here just by some dark object? This is so disappointing!” Ouyang Zixin felt like crying; all her expectations had been shattered. The old woman had said they could only do this once, which meant there would be no chance to experience it again.
“Incantation? What language is that?” Ouyang Hao was taken aback; he had never heard of such a language.
“The language of incantations isn’t the point, Dad. Is this how the teleportation array works? Is it over? Have we arrived?” Ouyang Zixin pressed on stubbornly.
“Yes, that array was set up by an Old Friend of your mother and me—the one I wanted to take you to meet. As for the old woman, she was responsible for overseeing that array.” Such teleportation arrays are not easy to set up; it requires over a hundred different Mystical Artifacts. Although most of them are ordinary Mystical Artifacts of low grade, gathering them all is not so simple. Additionally, the person setting up the array must have extremely high cultivation to input a large amount of Mysterious Energy into it and then seal it until it's time to activate the array when the Mysterious Energy will take effect.
The reason this array was left behind was for Bai Su. The old woman must have thought that the person sitting in the carriage was Bai Su, which explains everything.
Hmph, what a convoluted trick; it’s really annoying. While Ouyang Hao acknowledged that the person had exceptional skills, he felt very displeased with their intentions. Even though this array was ultimately used on his daughter, he still felt resentment.
"What's wrong? Are you interested in formations?" If she wasn't interested in formations, why did Ouyang Zixin look so disappointed since arriving here?
"I was quite interested at first, but now I have lost all interest." At that moment, Ouyang Zixin looked like a wilted cabbage. Anyone who brought up teleportation or formations to her would surely face her wrath!
"That's good! Not being interested is fine! Formations aren't anything remarkable anyway." Indeed, she was his daughter, aligned with him. He no longer had to worry about her being led astray by that person.
Ouyang Hao felt quite pleased with himself, thinking that Ouyang Zixin had immediately abandoned her interest in formations after hearing him mention that person's intentions toward Bai Su, unconditionally siding with him. Little did he know...
Upon arriving here, they were not at their final destination. Ouyang Hao led the group onward for another three days before they finally reached a house at the foot of a mountain. During these three days, Ouyang Zixin had been cooped up in the carriage reading. After being disheartened by the teleportation array, she had become less obsessed with exploring dreams. The thought of something as ordinary as teleportation made her feel that dreams probably weren't anything special either. The reason she continued reading was simple: she had nothing else to do, so she flipped through pages to pass the time.
"Miss, we've arrived." Liu Ying's voice came from outside the carriage as a hand emerged from behind the curtain, quickly moving forward to assist her. Liu Lvy also brought over a footstool to help Ouyang Zixin get down.
Before her stood a towering mountain shrouded in white mist starting from halfway up. With her current eyesight, Ouyang Zixin could see no further up.
"It's beautiful!" She had heard that her parents' old friend lived in this mountain; they truly knew how to enjoy life.
Thinking about living in such a fairy-tale-like mountain in the future made Ouyang Zixin start to look forward to the days ahead.
"Xin'er, come here." Ouyang Hao waved from not far ahead.
Caught up in admiring the scenery, she momentarily forgot to get out of the carriage. Ouyang Zixin lowered her head and carefully stepped onto the footstool, only then realizing that Ouyang Hao was standing right in front of a house's entrance.
"Father, is this the house of that old friend you mentioned? Why is it at the foot of the mountain? Didn't you say they lived inside the mountain?" The house didn't look very big and was situated at the base of the mountain. Although it was nestled among mountains and waters, living in this house was certainly not on par with living inside the mountain itself.
"Xin'er, this house is your temporary residence." Ouyang Hao could only take her this far. After settling Ouyang Zixin, he would have to return with the guards.
"I live here? Am I supposed to stay here alone?" No way! Are they sending her into seclusion? Couldn’t she hide in the mountains instead?
"That person has a bad temper, and not just anyone can enter this mountain. For now, you will stay in this house; I heard your mother lived here before. Liu Ying and Liu Lu will stay to serve you. There shouldn't be any danger here, and outsiders won't easily intrude. Safety shouldn't be an issue; I will take the guards back since they are all men, and it wouldn't be convenient for them to stay."
Ouyang Hao rambled on with a lot of instructions, arranging for the guards to move the items from the carriage into the house, then turned the carriage around to leave without even stepping inside the door.
Once Ouyang Hao left, following his instructions, Ouyang Zixin settled into the house. At first, the two maids could prepare various dishes for Ouyang Zixin, but that didn’t last long. They had only brought enough supplies for two carriages, and much of it was not food but other necessities. Within less than half a month, only a third of the food remained. The location was indeed beautiful with mountains and water, fresh air, and pleasant scenery. But—
What would she eat living here?
As she watched the food supply dwindle, what was she going to do?
"I don't think my parents intended for me to starve here, right?" If it weren't for having spent five years together and being certain that she was their biological daughter, with their affection being genuine, Ouyang Zixin would truly start to doubt whether she had been abandoned.
"I don't think my parents' Old Friend would let me starve to death here, would they?" According to Ouyang Hao, she was supposed to stay here for now, and that legendary expert would come looking for her soon. As long as she took out the half jade ring her mother gave her, that expert would take care of her. Oh great one, when will you appear?
Liu Ying and Liu Lu didn’t know how to respond; perhaps their young lady didn’t need them to answer at all? So the two maids dutifully accompanied Ouyang Zixin as they gazed at the sky—
The sky here is more beautiful than that of the capital!
