Chapter Seventy-Three: Young People Should Pay Attention to Moderation
Xinru explained, "A few days ago, my sister and I went to buy roast duck, and we were harassed by some bad people. They wouldn't leave us alone and even tried to hit us. My sister and I are so weak; we were no match for those bad guys. A crowd gathered around us, but no one was willing to help. They just stood there watching the show and cheering on the troublemakers. Fortunately, Zhang Qiu intervened in time and saved my sister and me. Otherwise, we would have been in big trouble."
So that's what happened, Jiang Xue thought, finally understanding why Zhang Qiu's clothes were covered in dirt. It turned out he was a hero saving the damsels in distress. Even though she knew Zhang Qiu acted bravely, Jiang Xue felt a pang of jealousy, especially after seeing Liu Xinru's ample figure.
Jiang Xue suddenly froze as a thought struck her: the people living on that street were all... right? Looking at her sister's attire and the strong scent of perfume on her, it was clear she was also involved in that line of work. What about Xinru? Could she also be... Hmph, how could you be so close to someone like that? Jiang Xue pouted angrily, sizing up Liu Xinru. Aside from her larger chest compared to her own, there wasn't much else. She was just relying on makeup; her outfit was indeed revealing, but she looked no different from the youthful beauties on the street. There was no sign of being worldly or anything like that.
"Is there something on my face?" Liu Xinru asked when she noticed Jiang Xue staring at her intently, thinking she might have smudged her makeup in her rush.
"Nothing, nothing," Jiang Xue quickly brushed it off.
At that moment, Zhang Qiu also came out, holding a piece of jade in one hand and a white tiger in the other. Strangely enough, as soon as he left the room, the white tiger immediately returned to normal. Zhang Qiu looked at the white tiger curiously and glanced back at the room where "Heart Radiation" was written on the door. Could it be due to radiation?
"Hey, what is that? It looks nice," Liu Xinru noticed the white tiger Zhang Qiu was holding.
"It's a piece of jade."
"Can I take a look?"
"Here," Zhang Qiu handed the white tiger to Liu Xinru. She carefully took it with both hands and raised it to her eyes to examine it curiously, occasionally touching it and rubbing it against her face.
Jiang Xue looked at the results in Zhang Qiu's hand with concern and asked, "How is it?"
Zhang Qiu smiled and patted Jiang Xue's head, saying, "It's fine." He then looked around and asked, "Where's Wang Jinghan?"
Jiang Xue also looked around and indeed couldn't see Wang Jinghan anywhere. She muttered, "She was just here."
"Here you go," Liu Xinru handed the white tiger back to Zhang Qiu and praised, "This piece of jade is really nice."
"Do you understand jade?" Zhang Qiu asked.
"I took a little in my elective course at university, but with my limited knowledge, I can't really tell much," Liu Xinru replied.
Zhang Qiu nodded and asked, "Have you seen Wang Jinghan?"
Liu Xinru shook her head.
"Where could she have gone?" Zhang Qiu looked around but did not see Wang Jinghan.
Liu Ru Yan said, "She might have had something urgent to attend to; after all, this is a hospital."
"That can't be it. She would at least let us know," Zhang Qiu shook his head.
"Hey, isn't that her over there?" Jiang Xue pointed into the distance.
Zhang Qiu followed Jiang Xue's gaze and indeed saw Wang Jinghan walking toward them. When Wang Jinghan noticed everyone looking at her, she hurried over, catching her breath as she asked, "What happened? Is everything okay?"
"I'm fine. Where did you go?"
"I went to pay the bill."
"How much was it? I'll reimburse you later."
"That's not urgent. Let's go find Dr. Li first." Wang Jinghan tucked the payment receipt away and pulled Zhang Qiu toward the consultation room, with Jiang Xue and Liu Xinru quickly following behind.
Upon reaching the consultation room, Dr. Li smiled and said, "So, how is it? Everything alright?"
"Everything is fine."
"Let me see the results." Dr. Li extended his hand, and Wang Jinghan placed the results in his palm. Dr. Li examined them for a moment, then stood up and walked to the side, saying, "It's nothing serious; just apply some medicine." He took several bottles of medicine from a nearby cabinet. "Wang Jinghan, you help out and wipe the blood off his face first."
"I'll do it," Jiang Xue said as she reached for the disinfecting towel.
Dr. Li stopped her: "Let Wang Jinghan do it; she's a nurse and knows what to do."
Reluctantly, Jiang Xue handed the towel to Wang Jinghan, who smiled reassuringly, "Don't worry; I won't hurt him." But in her heart, she thought, I wouldn't want to hurt him either.
Wang Jinghan dipped a cloth in clean water and gently wiped Zhang Qiu's face, revealing his handsome and chiseled features once more. Carefully, she tucked Zhang Qiu's slightly long hair behind his ear and used a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to disinfect him. Zhang Qiu gritted his teeth in pain but held back from crying out.
Dr. Li applied the medicine to Zhang Qiu's wound. The moment the medicine made contact with the injury, Zhang Qiu inhaled sharply, feeling as if he might faint. Dr. Li then placed medical cotton on the wound and wrapped it with gauze. Zhang Qiu looked like a patient with a severe head injury; unfortunately, due to the location of the wound, using adhesive tape directly would have pulled out his hair.
The three women looked at Zhang Qiu's appearance and burst into laughter. Zhang Qiu glanced in the mirror; if he were to use a cane and wear an old gray military uniform with some dirt on his face, he would look just like a battle-hardened hero returning from the front lines. "Doctor, when can I take this off?" Zhang Qiu asked.
"Come back in five days; I'll check your recovery progress then."
"Ah, that long?" Zhang Qiu frowned at his reflection. Going to school looking like this would ruin the image he had worked so hard to establish.
"Five days isn't too long. If your recovery isn't good, it could take even longer. By the way, you can't take a shower during these days, and you definitely can't wash your hair. Be careful when washing your face; keep the wound dry," Dr. Li advised.
"Ah?" Zhang Qiu felt completely drained. Not being able to shower or wash his hair was tough for someone who was used to washing their hair every morning.
As Zhang Qiu fretted over this, Wang Jinghan asked, "Do you need to change the dressing in these five days?"
"No need; just come see me after five days."
"Are there any dietary restrictions?"
Zhang Qiu looked at Wang Jinghan, who kept asking questions, and wanted to cover her mouth with his hand, but it was clearly inappropriate for Jiang Xue to do so. However, if he allowed Wang Jinghan to continue asking, he might as well not eat or do anything at all.
Fortunately, Dr. Li said something that reassured Zhang Qiu: "There are no dietary restrictions, just one thing—don't eat spicy food."
"Okay." Zhang Qiu nodded in agreement. "Thank you, doctor."
As Zhang Qiu and the others were about to leave, Dr. Li called out to him from behind, saying, "By the way, you young people should pay attention to moderation."
As soon as Dr. Li finished speaking, all three women blushed and exchanged glances before collectively glaring at Zhang Qiu.
Qiu Sheng Zhang was afraid of being scolded by the three of them, so he hurriedly took a few steps back to create some distance.
"Hey, wait a minute." The three women ran after Zhang Qiu.
...
In the parking lot of the county hospital, Wang Jinghan personally saw Zhang Qiu, Jiang Xue, and Liu Xinru off. She watched them get into the Electric Vehicle and waved goodbye. "Goodbye! Take care of your injuries."
"I will," Zhang Qiu nodded. Jiang Xue added, "Goodbye."
Liu Xinru started the Electric Tricycle and slowly rode out of the hospital gate. After turning onto the main road, Wang Jinghan chased after them and shouted, "Cover your wound; don't let it catch the wind."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Xue quickly urged Zhang Qiu to lower his head against her chest. Liu Xinru reduced her speed significantly compared to when they arrived. Zhang Qiu obediently lay down and rested his head on Jiang Xue's chest, feeling the softness. "Pervert," Jiang Xue shot a glance at Zhang Qiu and hugged him tightly while using her hand to shield his wound.
The ride was silent as Liu Xinru stopped the Electric Vehicle in front of her sister's place. The later it got, the brighter the red lights shone; every shop had its pink or orange lights on, casting an ambiguous glow over the entire area. Almost every house had one or two women dressed provocatively standing outside. There were more men here than when they went to the hospital earlier; some even drove in. Many others came in groups of three or five—laborers who were tired after work and had nothing to do after dinner. They took their wages out and draped camouflage jackets over their shoulders while sizing up potential companions. Unfortunately, some needs always need addressing; this is a significant challenge in urban management. Yet it is precisely this gray area that breeds certain diseases that are alarming to hear about.
The Black Stocking Woman moved a stool to sit at the door; she was the most famous person here, beautiful and well-built, and had once been courted by nightclubs. However, the Black Stocking Woman remained unmoved, insisting on doing her own work so she could occasionally take care of her sister, who was in college. That evening, she had turned down several customers, even refusing an old acquaintance who had always supported her business, just to wait for her sister and Zhang Qiu to return.
From a distance, the Black Stocking Woman spotted her sister riding an Electric Tricycle over. As Liu Xinru stopped the Electric Vehicle, the Black Stocking Woman rushed over and saw Zhang Qiu with a bandage wrapped around his head. She quickly asked, "Brother, is it serious? What happened?"
Zhang Qiu sat up from Jiang Xue's embrace and smiled slightly, saying, "I'm fine. I was afraid my hair would get stuck, so I had to wrap it like this to hold it in place."
"Oh, that's good to hear," the Black Stocking Woman said, relieved.
However, Zhang Qiu felt anxious; indeed, people tended to think it was serious when they saw him like this. He would have to keep it wrapped for five days—what was he going to do?
As Zhang Qiu worried, the Black Stocking Woman smiled and said, "Don't stay out here; this isn't a good place. Come inside and sit for a while."
Zhang Qiu looked around; everywhere he saw people entertaining clients and negotiating prices. The four of them standing there seemed no different from the crowd, especially with three beautiful women present. The Black Stocking Woman still exuded charm. It would be better to leave quickly. Zhang Qiu replied, "It's late; we won't sit down. Jiang Xue and I are going home."
"Come on, just sit for a bit. I've already brewed some tea and was waiting for you to come back. You haven't had a chance to thank me properly yet; you must stay here for a while tonight."
The Black Stocking Woman's words left Zhang Qiu stunned. He hadn't had time to thank her properly; how could he express his gratitude here? He looked at the Black Stocking Woman, then at Liu Xinru and Jiang Xue, feeling completely bewildered—what was going on?
