Chapter 161: Beating the Lovebirds
The Security Chief brought Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue into the Director's Office. At that moment, Director Zhao, who was in charge of the Senior Year, was comfortably sitting in his chair sipping tea. Upon seeing the Security Chief enter, he looked slightly puzzled, but his expression changed when he saw Zhang Qiu following behind. He knew trouble had arrived again.
Before Director Zhao could speak, the Security Chief interjected, "Director, I've brought you two students. The Security Department caught them engaging in inappropriate conduct. Not only did they refuse to admit their mistake, but they also barged into the teaching building. They may have escaped the monk, but they couldn't escape the temple; I caught them anyway." The Security Chief seemed to be boasting, a smirk appearing on his face.
The Security Chief emphasized, "These two students are clearly aware of their wrongdoing; they don't take the school seriously!" He had caught many students in relationships before, some even more arrogant than Zhang Qiu, but in the end, they all admitted their mistakes and went home to reflect. He had broken up countless couples with his iron fist.
Zhang Qiu argued, "We're old enough; it's natural for boys and girls to be together."
"Natural?" The Security Chief glared at Zhang Qiu. "This is inappropriate conduct! At your age, studying is the priority; everything else is secondary. Do you understand?"
Zhang Qiu scoffed, "There's no distinction between normal and abnormal in dating."
"What did you say?" The Security Chief glared at Zhang Qiu.
"I said there's no distinction between normal and abnormal in dating."
"Say that again!"
"I said there's no distinction between normal and abnormal in dating." Zhang Qiu repeated himself.
"Zhang Qiu!" Director Zhao interrupted the argument sternly. "What's going on?"
"Today Jiang Xue and I came to school and were stopped at the entrance. I was afraid of being late for class, so I ran into the teaching building," Zhang Qiu explained while looking at Director Zhao, knowing he had caused trouble again and feeling a bit guilty.
"Is that so?" Director Zhao saw through Zhang Qiu's lie but chose not to expose it.
Before Zhang Qiu could respond, the Red-Faced Guard spoke up: "This boy was openly holding hands with this girl as they walked to the school gate."
Director Zhao turned to Zhang Qiu, who explained, "Director, this is really a misunderstanding. Jiang Xue and I might have just been walking close together; it looked like we were holding hands."
Jiang Xue chimed in from the side, "We definitely weren't holding hands." Her heart raced; it was her first time lying in front of the director.
"Are you Jiang Xue?" Director Zhao almost exclaimed, his focus no longer on whether they were holding hands.
"Yes," Jiang Xue nodded blankly, not understanding why her name elicited such a strong reaction.
Director Zhao was still recovering from the shock. Wasn't Jiang Xue sent in for fighting? How could she be out now... Could it be Zhang Qiu? Director Zhao looked at Zhang Qiu; if it was indeed Zhang Qiu, then this student's abilities were quite formidable. After a while, Director Zhao fixed his gaze on Jiang Xue and asked, "You’re out?"
Jiang Xue nodded as if she understood: "I’m out."
The conversation between Director Zhao and Jiang Xue left the Security Department personnel confused, but the Head of Security seemed to grasp something, and his gaze toward Zhang Qiu and Jiang Xue became more complex.
Director Zhao hesitated slightly; this issue was much trickier to handle.
Zhang Qiu spoke up first: "Director, Jiang Xue is fine now and can return to class. I picked her up, which is why we came to school together. I didn’t expect to be misunderstood as dating." Zhang Qiu shrugged, looking aggrieved.
Director Zhao intended to let Zhang Qiu off the hook but still said sternly, "In that case, you two need to be more careful in the future. Even if you walk together, keep your distance. As students, you must not engage in relationships and should focus on your studies."
"Yes, yes, yes," Zhang Qiu replied with a smile.
The Security Chief stood by silently while the Red-Faced Guard stepped forward unhappily: "Director, I saw them holding hands with my own eyes. There are cameras at the school entrance; we can pull up the footage and see everything clearly."
As soon as the Red-Faced Guard finished speaking, Zhang Qiu, Director Zhao, and the Security Chief all shot him a glare. However, the Red-Faced Guard remained oblivious and continued: "Director, this situation must be handled seriously!"
Director Zhao glared at the Red-Faced Guard; wasn't he just looking for trouble? Moreover, trouble for himself. Director Zhao felt displeased but couldn't show it; he continued to look sternly at Zhang Qiu: "You heard that, right? The school has footage."
Zhang Qiu nodded lightly: "I heard." He appeared unbothered.
Director Zhao wanted to show favoritism toward Zhang Qiu but couldn't make it too obvious; he remained silent. The Red-Faced Guard pressed on eagerly: "Then let's go check the footage now. You two have no problem with that; we’ll know once we look."
Jiang Xue gently moved closer to Zhang Qiu, grabbing his sleeve with a complex expression in her eyes. She had just returned to campus with great difficulty; if they were caught on camera, she would have to leave school again. The school's punishment for dating was severe.
Zhang Qiu noticed Jiang Xue's concern and made up his mind that he could not disrupt her studies again. He turned to Director Zhao and said: "Director, how about this? Since the guard claims I held Jiang Xue’s hand, I will go home for reflection. Jiang Xue just returned to school; we can't delay her studies any further."
Director Zhao listened to Zhang Qiu and nodded slightly. "Since you have considered Jiang Xue's actual situation, I can agree to your request. However, you will need to go home and reflect on this. Are you sure?"
"I am sure," Zhang Qiu replied without hesitation.
"No!" Jiang Xue stepped forward to stop him, but Zhang Qiu blocked her. "This matter should be decided by me."
"Director, this is not acceptable," Jiang Xue insisted, turning to the director again.
Zhang Qiu interjected, "Director, I am willing to go home and reflect."
The Red-Faced Guard chimed in sarcastically from the side, "You haven't even started dating yet, and look at this reaction. Can it be anything other than a romantic interest?"
"Alright, let's go with Zhang Qiu's decision!" Director Zhou ignored the Red-Faced Guard and made a decisive statement. He was pleased to do a favor without offending anyone or appearing biased. More importantly, Jiang Xue had indeed performed well; she was a promising student who could even attend a top university. Having delayed this long, it was better not to send her home for reflection again.
Zhang Qiu sighed in relief; as long as Jiang Xue was fine, he felt reassured.
Just as they were about to leave, the Red-Faced Guard obstructed them again, stepping forward to protest. "Director, how can we make such a judgment? Our school has always been strict about inappropriate relationships!"
