Chapter 47: The Past of Wu Xue
The air had begun to warm, yet the north wind still howled, and sunlight streamed through the clouds onto the earth. The roadside trees had gradually sprouted green buds, and the distant fields were no longer monotonously yellow. Wherever Zhou Guanghai went, he stirred up a cloud of dust and startled the birds that had come out to forage.
The detention center was established by agencies at or above the county level, but it was located in Matang Town, south of Beilan County. The high walls of the detention center loomed tall, with the main gate tightly closed. The soldier on guard stood straight, a steel gun crossed over his chest. A soldier in the watchtower aimed a 95-type automatic rifle equipped with an optical sight at the person descending from the driver's seat.
Zhou Guanghai stood outside the security line when a small window in the gate opened, revealing a shiny-faced man who scrutinized him seriously. Upon recognizing Zhou Guanghai, his expression shifted from stern to smiling as he said, "It's Zhou Mi! Why are you here so soon again?"

After the guard opened the gate, Zhou Guanghai took out a cigarette from his pocket and handed it to him. The guard gratefully accepted it and was about to exchange pleasantries when Zhou Guanghai quickly said he needed to get to work and hurried toward the office building.
The guard watched Zhou Guanghai's retreating figure and muttered to himself, "What could be so urgent?"

Director Ma was around forty years old and was currently seated at his desk handling official business. Director Ma wiped the beads of sweat from his forehead and said, "Let's go, I'll take you to find someone." He led the way, with Zhou Guanghai closely following behind, silently praying that nothing would go wrong.
After passing through several checkpoints, they finally arrived at the Prison Area. Director Ma personally took the keys to open the door. The moment the door swung open, he saw Liu Fangfei sitting safely next to Boss Wu Xue, and he finally relaxed his tense heart. However, he soon furrowed his brow; he had clearly given prior notice, and Wu Xue had been obedient since entering. Why was this time different? It seemed this reporter was indeed not simple.
Zhou Guanghai didn't think too much about it. Upon seeing Liu Fangfei safe and sound, he felt relieved. As long as she was fine, everything else could be handled. He walked up to Liu Fangfei and smiled, saying, "Liu Journalist, there’s been a misunderstanding. I’m here to take you away."
Seeing Zhou Guanghai like this made Liu Fangfei realize that her family must have already learned about her situation. "Dealt with the responsible parties?" Liu Fangfei tilted her head and looked at Zhou Guanghai, questioning him: "Then why are you still here? Didn’t you also arrest me?"
Liu Fangfei felt anger rising within her as she looked at Zhou Guanghai. "Yes, Liu Journalist, let’s go outside," Zhou Guanghai added from the side.
Liu Fangfei sat on the bed, staring wide-eyed at Zhou Guanghai. The other inmates were all watching this unusual scene; they had never seen someone as high-ranking as Director act like this before.

Director Ma frowned as he watched this scene unfold. He waved his hand from behind, and immediately someone came in to drag the man away.

Liu Fangfei looked at Director Ma, slowly got off the bed, and extended her hand, saying, "Can I make a phone call?"
Old Ma glanced at Zhou Guanghai, who nodded in response. Old Ma handed over his Apple Phone and said, "Go ahead."
Liu Fangfei dialed a number and spoke for a few moments before following Director Ma and Zhou Guanghai out.
After Liu Fangfei left, a female inmate hurried over to Wu Xue and asked, "Boss, Director Ma told us to 'take care' of her. Did you really take care of her?"
Wu Xue looked at the female inmate but remained silent, her eyes fixed on the direction Liu Fangfei had gone.
Two months ago, Wu Xue had been assaulted after her night shift and found no one to turn to for help. In desperation, she sought revenge herself and stabbed the assailant, leaving him disabled. Later, she learned that the reason no one intervened was because Wang Guodong had given instructions...
