Kalandor initially smiled brightly, but upon hearing that Sean Sterling had already stepped into Mid-Level, his smile froze on his face, revealing an expression of disbelief. Although Reynold had suspected this in his heart, hearing Sean Sterling confirm it made him even more wary, and his gaze towards Sean became increasingly serious.
Before this, even though Reynold had been defeated by Step, he only regarded Step as a strong opponent and did not feel much apprehension. However, this feeling took root in Reynold's heart after he entered Quasi-Mid-Level, leading him to believe that Step's strength was limited. If they were to fight again, victory would belong to him, Reynold.
However, cruel reality played a cruel joke on him. After entering Quasi-Mid-Level, he intended to redeem himself from his previous defeat and rise from where he had fallen. Yet, he was left dumbfounded; compared to Step's direct breakthrough to Intermediate strength, what was there for him to be proud of in being merely Quasi-Mid-Level?
Step also did not expect Sean Sterling to see through his strength at a glance. After a moment of surprise, he smiled humbly and said, "Senior is too kind. I only managed to break through by chance; if I were to try again, I wouldn't be confident in succeeding."
Upon hearing this, Sean Sterling chuckled softly and did not say much more. Instead, he changed the subject and said, "Alright, since everyone is here now, let's set off early to the location of the Spatial Teleportation Array." With that, Sean Sterling pointed his wand toward the sky, and a ghostly green light shot out instantly.
Seeing Sean Sterling's actions, Step looked puzzled and felt somewhat bewildered. "What is this guy doing? Pointing a stick at the sky—does he think the Spatial Teleportation Array is built in mid-air?" As he thought this, Step looked up and saw nothing but a vast expanse of white clouds; there was no sign of any teleportation array.
Feeling puzzled, Step shifted his gaze back to his companions Reilo and Kalandor, only to find that both of them wore similar expressions of confusion as if they did not understand the purpose of Sean Sterling's actions.
Just then, a piercing cry echoed through the air—a sound so sorrowful it was almost unbearable.
Step furrowed his brow and looked back up at the sky. In the distance, a small green figure was rapidly approaching, accompanied by shrill cries. As it drew closer, the green figure gradually enlarged in Step's vision until it revealed itself as an incredibly ugly large bird.
"Fearsome Sparrow Beast," Kalandor exclaimed in astonishment as he gazed at the bird in the sky.
"Horrible Peacock Beast?" Step looked at Kalandor beside him and then back at the approaching ugly bird. He found it hard to associate such an ugly creature with the beautiful and elegant peacock he had in mind.
The large bird was completely devoid of feathers and covered in a layer of emerald scales. It had a crown on its head that was pitch black like an ugly tumor. Beneath this crown were a pair of cold yellow eyes. Moreover, its teeth and claws were quite sharp; they glinted coldly and did not seem friendly—certainly not a vegetarian.
"Ying ying... ying."
As Step pondered this, the harsh bird cries grew louder nearby. A gust of wind suddenly swept through as a shadow obscured the sunlight. Step felt darkness enveloping him; looking up revealed that the ugly large bird had flown within dozens of feet above him. Its wings spread wide like a green cloud, and its massive body measuring seven or eight feet long instilled fear in those who beheld it.
A thought crossed his mind as he attempted to activate the Upgrade System. Focusing intently, a stream of information appeared in his mind almost instantly.
“Fearsome Sparrow Beast Level: 4 Attributes: Strength 6 Agility 47 Constitution 9 Spirit 18 Energy Body Condition: Normal 100% Description: A naturally violent and bloodthirsty avian beast, extremely difficult to tame. Adult Fearsome Sparrow Beasts generally possess Mid-Level strength, with incredibly hard scales and astonishing toxicity.”
“Intermediate Level 4… Fearsome Sparrow Beast…” he gasped.
At the same time, the large, fierce-looking Fearsome Sparrow Beast suddenly swooped down from the sky, its massive body casting a shadow over the four of them, a menacing aura pressing down upon them.
“…this…” Kalandor stepped back several paces, looking uncertainly at Sean Sterling. Reynold beside him also showed a look of surprise but did not move an inch.
“There's no need to panic; let me introduce you. This is Green Dome, my Contract Beast,” Sean Sterling explained with a smile. As he spoke, the enormous body of the Fearsome Sparrow Beast landed on the ground, chirping as it folded its wings and leaned its ugly head toward Sean Sterling.
“…Contract Beast… Green Dome?” he murmured softly, a hint of curiosity flashing in his eyes as he looked at the Green Dome that was now nudging against Sean Sterling, deep in thought.
He was not unfamiliar with contracts. Whether it was the Dark Magic Contract established by Locke or the Blood Contract presented by Warren Earl to control him, both types of contracts produced special effects that were all about control and restraint.
A Contract Beast, as the name suggests. In his view, this Fearsome Sparrow Beast named Green Dome must have established some special contractual relationship with Sean Sterling, allowing this inherently violent and powerful creature to exist like a pet under his command.
“A Mid-Level Contract Beast… and one of the rare flying types among Contract Beasts.” At this moment, Kalandor, who had initially been intimidated by the Fearsome Sparrow Beast, reacted with astonishment, his gaze toward Sean Sterling filled with admiration.
Even someone as proud as Reilo showed signs of being moved at this moment; though he remained silent, his attitude clearly reflected more respect.
After all, in Crook Duchy, there were very few High-Level experts. Generally speaking, anyone who reached Mid-Level strength could be considered skilled. If one achieved Intermediate Level 4 or above, they would be regarded as a formidable powerhouse.
Now looking at Sean Sterling again, not only did he possess terrifying Intermediate Level 5 strength himself, but even his Contract Beast was an Intermediate Level 4 Fearsome Sparrow Beast. Such a powerful individual was nearly at the pinnacle of Crook Duchy’s hierarchy. How could one not feel awe?
"Alright, everyone, it's getting late, and we should set off. Let's have Green Dome take us to the location of the Spatial Teleportation Array," Sean Sterling urged as thoughts swirled among the group.
"Are we really going to ride on this Fearsome Sparrow Beast? Let it carry us to the Spatial Teleportation Array?" Bu looked at Sean Sterling, surprised by the suggestion.
As soon as he finished speaking, the Fearsome Sparrow Beast beside Sean, resembling a green mountain, suddenly let out a loud cry. Its wings flapped violently, creating a gust of wind, and its golden eyes fixed fiercely on Bu, seemingly very unfriendly.
The sudden turn of events left Bu stunned, unsure why the Fearsome Sparrow Beast was suddenly hostile towards him.
"Child, Green Dome is quite proud. Normally, aside from me, no one else has the fortune to ride on it. Your words have angered it," Sean Sterling said while patting Green Dome's body to soothe it, then spoke slowly to Bu.
"Oh," Bu replied in surprise, glancing at Green Dome, which was gradually calming down under Sean's reassurance. He continued, "Since you have asked Green Dome to take us to the Spatial Teleportation Array, it must not be without reason. I believe today we will enjoy a privilege that others do not have."
After saying this, Bu looked at Sean Sterling with bright eyes and a slight smile on his lips.
Sean Sterling was taken aback by his words. He turned his head to look at Bu and couldn't help but chuckle at his calm demeanor. "You are quite clever. However, you are not wrong; today I intend to make an exception and let Green Dome carry us to the Spatial Teleportation Array."
At this point, Sean paused for a moment before lightly pushing off the ground and leaping onto Green Dome's massive body. Given the agility displayed in this action, he likely possessed the physical qualities of a Low-Level warrior.
Bu and the others were secretly astonished and exchanged glances, marveling at the hidden talents within Holy Light Academy. Just picking any Silver Star Student revealed such strength.
"Everyone get on; don't waste any more time," Sean Sterling called from where he sat on Green Dome's shoulder, waving to Bu and the others on the ground.
"Let's go," Kalandor said with a smile to Bu and Reynold.
Bu Wei nodded with a smile, while Reynold took a step forward and leaped directly onto Green Dome's broad back.
Perhaps unaccustomed to having strangers ride on its back, Green Dome let out a few low growls as Reynold stepped onto its body, impatiently scratching the ground with its claws. If it weren't for Sean Sterling's occasional soothing words, it might have already gone wild.
A slight smile appeared on Reynold's lips as he found the Fearsome Sparrow Beast named Green Dome quite interesting. However, seeing Kalandor also leap onto Green Dome's back, he decided to follow suit. He took a step forward, leaped onto Green Dome's body, and joined the others.
This Fearsome Sparrow Beast was enormous, measuring about seven or eight zhang from head to tail. With its wings spread wide, it created a shadow that covered the green clouds. The four of them landed on its back without feeling crowded, each finding a stable spot to sit cross-legged.
All were skilled martial artists; even Sean Sterling, being a mage, possessed Low-Level martial prowess. Sitting on the smooth scales of Green Dome, they maintained their balance without any awkwardness.
"Wind Wall."
Sean Sterling shouted softly, and his wand suddenly burst forth with a blue light. In an instant, a thick wall made of swirling blue wind appeared, rapidly rotating in the air and creating a howling sound.
"Shape Formation."
Sean Sterling pointed his wand forward, and the wall of blue wind shifted in accordance with his gesture. As it moved, it gradually extended into a circle, completely enveloping Green Dome's massive body like a giant blue dome.
Green Dome seemed accustomed to Sean Sterling's actions and showed no signs of emotional resistance. Meanwhile, Kalandor curiously examined the blue dome and occasionally reached out to touch it.
