He hung up and looked apologetically at Aunt Chen and Uncle Chen:
"Mom, Dad, there's an urgent matter at the company. You can go ahead with Li Xuan first; I'll catch up with you after I'm done."
Aunt Chen frowned. "What could be so urgent that you don't even have time to eat?"
Chen Weidong explained, "There really is something."
Aunt Chen seemed like she wanted to say more, but I spoke up calmly, "Since there's something to take care of, just go ahead."
Chen Weidong gave me a deep look, parked the car by the side of the road, then got out and left.
I drove without looking away, taking Aunt Chen and Uncle Chen down the mountain.
Then I drove up the mountain alone.
The mountain was quiet, occasionally interrupted by the fluttering of birds. I greedily breathed in the fresh air.
At night, I lay in bed and stumbled upon Chen Weidong's account on Douyin. The man in the video did not show his face, but that watch on his wrist... it was the birthday gift I had given him.
The comments section was filled with praises for him.
"The boss is really thoughtful, even personally ordering takeout for us, so touching!"

I stared blankly at the video, my stomach churning. Tears welled up in the corners of my eyes; I forced a smile but couldn't manage it.
I spent a sleepless night. Walking through the mountains with Chen Father and Chen's Mother, looking at the beautiful scenery before me, I couldn't help but break into a faint smile. This kind of family atmosphere was what I longed for the most.
"Uncle Chen, has the company been busy lately?" I asked casually.
Uncle Chen nodded, "We've signed a few projects recently, so it's indeed a bit hectic."
"Oh." I nodded and didn't press further. If Uncle Chen was this busy, how could Chen Weidong, as the president, not be?
My heart tightened, a dense pain spreading through me. I looked up to keep the tears from falling. I remembered the times when Chen Weidong wasn't busy and would accompany me for walks.
He would tell me jokes to cheer me up when I was bored.
He would drop everything to accompany me to the doctor when I was sick.
Those sweet memories have now become the sharpest knives, piercing deeply into my heart.
Sitting in the pavilion, I held the teacup and quietly asked,
"Aunt Chen, if I hadn't been with Chen Weidong back then, would you still consider me your daughter?"
Aunt Chen hesitated for a moment and cautiously asked, "Did you two have a fight?"
I shook my head, my throat choked with words I couldn't express.
Aunt Chen hugged me and gently comforted me:
"Silly child, in our hearts, you have always been our daughter.
Even if you weren't in a relationship, we would still treat you like our own."
"No matter what happens, remember to communicate with us; don't keep it bottled up inside, okay?"
"If it really hurts, then let go; don't compromise your own feelings."
"No matter what happens, you are our child."
I could no longer hold back my tears, which fell like rain.
I tightly embraced Aunt Chen and cried heart-wrenchingly.
