I wanted to find Jia Jia, but Liu Hai stopped me.
"Wang Hui, calm down."
"Even if you call the police, as Jia Jia's father, Zhang Qiming has custody rights. You can't stop him from taking Jia Jia away."
"But Zhang Qiming is unemployed now, and he spends all day immersed in games."
"He has no intention of taking care of Jia Jia!"
Since Zhang Qiming lost his job, he has been obsessed with gaming.
Especially after the release of "Black Myth: Wukong," he has been playing non-stop.
Forget about taking care of Jia Jia; he even handles eating and drinking while sitting in his gaming chair.
Jia Jia's injury hasn't stabilized yet; her legs need careful attention.
If she really goes back to Zhang Qiming, I can't imagine the consequences.
Liu Hai sighed, "Wang Hui, you can only wait for the divorce case to go to court."
"Didn't the lawyer say that as long as the case goes smoothly, custody of Jia Jia could be awarded to you?"
I returned home in a daze, hoping Zhang Qiming would be there.
As long as he was willing to bring Jia Jia back, I could immediately transfer the house to him.
But when I opened the door, I was greeted by a sight of trash and filth everywhere.
Leftover instant noodles piled on the table, fruit had already gone moldy, and paper scraps littered the floor.
The house was empty.
I tried to contact Zhang Qiming, but his phone was off and I couldn't get through.
I also attempted to reach Zhang Qiming's mother, but no one answered.
I searched for everyone I knew, but not a single person had seen Zhang Qiming or his mother.
I ran around for three whole days without any leads.
Just when I was feeling hopeless, Zhang Qiming's phone finally rang.
I heard Jia Jia's faint cries for help on the line.
"Mom, help me..."
"Dad, he wants to..."
But before I could finish my words, I was interrupted by Zhang Qiming's furious shout.
"Don't disturb me while I'm playing games!"
"If you keep making noise, I'll throw you out!"
I was at my breaking point and frantically dialed Zhang Qiming's Phone.
But he didn't answer and even turned off his phone.
I cried as I called Zhang Qiming's Mother, begging her to tell me Zhang Qiming's location.
"Mom, please save Jia Jia, Zhang Qiming wants to hurt Jia Jia!"
After hesitating for a moment, Zhang Qiming's Mother finally gave me the address.
"Wang Hui, don't do anything foolish."
"Jia Jia will be fine."
Liu Hai was worried about my safety and offered to drive me to Zhang Qiming's apartment.
I rushed upstairs and kicked open the door.
I saw Jia Jia curled up on the bed, her little face terrifyingly pale and her body burning with fever.
I gritted my teeth and held back my tears.
"Zhang Qiming, you are inhuman!"
I picked up a mop and smashed it against the computer.
"What the hell are you doing!"
"Jia Jia is your own child!"
"She's burning up, her life is at stake, and you're still focused on gaming!"
Liu Hai grabbed me and reminded me, "Wang Hui, something is wrong with Jia Jia."
"We need to get her to the hospital quickly."
Liu Hai made a quick decision, picked up Jia Jia, and ran downstairs. However, Zhang Qiming blocked the doorway, refusing to let us leave. Liu Hai kicked him to the ground. "Zhang Qiming, you will get your comeuppance!" I glared at him fiercely before turning to leave.
Jia Jia's breathing grew weaker and weaker. Liu Hai rushed into the car with Jia Jia in his arms and stepped on the gas towards the hospital.
The door to the emergency room opened, and Liu Hai walked out weakly. "Wang Hui, Jia Jia... I'm sorry, I did my best."
"No, it can't be."
"I don't believe it!" I shouted, "Jia Jia won't leave us!"
"He won't abandon me!"
