After cleaning and processing the two rabbits they caught, she gathered some dry twigs nearby and used her Fire Ability. With a gentle flick of her small hand, the twigs ignited into a roaring flame. Soon, a delicious aroma filled the air, the rich scent of roasted meat wafting around.
Seeing that the meat was ready, Luo Bingbing crushed the Fruit of the Salty Tree she had collected, letting the juice drip onto the rabbit meat. She took out her dagger and sliced the roasted meat into thin strips. Just as she was about to bring a piece to her mouth, she noticed a focused gaze on her from nearby. Turning slightly, she saw the little fox playing in the hot spring, staring intently at her, or rather, at the roasted meat in her hand.
Although the little fox had been soaking in the hot spring, its fur looked as if it had never touched water—completely dry and fluffy, not a single hair stuck together. It still appeared incredibly cute and adorable!
The snow-white little fox lay across from Luo Bingbing, its round eyes wide open and unblinking as it gazed at the roasted meat in her hand. In its world, it seemed that only the fragrant roasted meat existed; everything else was irrelevant.
Luo Bingbing felt annoyed at being interrupted just as she was about to enjoy her meal. She frowned slightly. Initially intending to ignore it, she caught sight of the little fox's innocent gaze as she looked down. Its eyes were pure and untainted, resembling the most pristine gem in existence. Such a gaze made it impossible for Luo Bingbing to disregard it; even her annoyance faded away without her realizing it.
With a smile creeping onto her lips, she couldn't help but reach out to pet the fox's head. However, just as her hand reached halfway, the little fox darted back a few steps like lightning. Seeing that it seemed a bit shy and wary of her, Luo Bingbing quickly withdrew her hand and tossed a rabbit leg in front of it.
The little fox saw the delicious roasted meat before it and quickly pounced on it to tear into it without fear of getting burned. Watching the little fox enjoy its meal so happily made Luo Bingbing start eating the fragrant roasted meat herself. She placed a thin slice in her mouth and savored it slowly; it was utterly delightful!
But when she was about to take another piece of rabbit meat, she felt that focused gaze on her again. Turning slightly, she found that same little fox still staring intently at the roasted meat in her hand. Luo Bingbing was surprised; this little creature had finished an entire rabbit leg so quickly that not even a bone remained.
She thought to herself, "This little one must be starving after not eating for days," and decided to toss half of the rabbit meat she held to it.
The little fox rushed over eagerly to tear into the new piece of meat. But before Luo Bingbing could finish one rabbit leg, that little creature came back for more. She had no choice but to cut another rabbit leg for herself while giving most of it to the fox. This time, worried that it would return again soon, Luo Bingbing ate a bit faster.
When the little fox looked up again, it realized that there was no more fragrant roasted meat in Luo Bingbing's hands and immediately shifted its gaze to the remaining Roasted Wild Rabbit on the fire.
At first pleased when she noticed its gaze on her, Luo Bingbing felt a twinge of panic when she saw that its focus shifted to the piece of meat she intended for Nursemaid. In a hurry, she wrapped that piece of Roasted Wild Rabbit in prepared leaves and stored it away.
Seeing Luo Bingbing put away the delicious roasted meat without sharing any with it made the little fox unhappy. It hurried over and bit onto her pant leg, shaking its small head vigorously while forgetting its initial shyness.
Determined to get that tasty roasted meat, it was all in!
Luo Bingbing noticed how spirited this little fox was and spoke to it without caring whether it understood human language: "No way! You can't have this Roasted Wild Rabbit anymore; it's meant for Nursemaid. Besides, you've already eaten enough; you should be full by now."
The little fox seemed to understand what Luo Bingbing said and slowly released her pant leg.
Luo Bingbing saw that the little fox understood her words, released her pant leg, and thought that this little fox was quite spiritual. She wanted to keep it by her side, but then she remembered how delicious it was and how much of a glutton it seemed to be, which made her dismiss the idea. She said to it, "Little one, I'm going back now. You can play here slowly!"
The little fox seemed to sense that the person in front of it did not want to stay with it and wanted to leave. It bit onto Luo Bingbing's pant leg again and pulled her towards the hot spring.
Luo Bingbing initially intended to leave, but when she saw the little fox tugging at her pant leg towards the hot spring, it seemed like it wanted her to follow. Considering how spiritual this little creature was, she also wanted to see what it really wanted her to do, so she followed its lead toward the hot spring.
When they reached the edge of the hot spring, the little fox released Luo Bingbing's pant leg, nodded its small head at her, and quickly jumped into the hot spring, disappearing from sight.
Luo Bingbing thought that the little fox had brought her over to enjoy a soak in the hot spring, so she shook her head and smiled, preparing to turn away. But before she could turn around, the little fox quickly sprang out of the hot spring with a sprig of Crimson Grass in its mouth. It leaped into her arms and placed the grass in her embrace while making soft whimpering sounds.
Luo Bingbing was astonished to see the red grass because it was something she had never seen before and had never heard of. As soon as she held it in her hand, she felt that this Crimson Grass contained rich fire elements that would greatly aid her cultivation abilities. She was excited and exclaimed inwardly, "What a treasure! I've struck gold!"
The little fox sensed that Luo Bingbing was very happy with the small red grass it had brought and barked a few times as if seeking praise. In truth, it didn’t know what kind of grass it was or what use it had, but it felt like a treasure that it had discovered while playing in the hot spring water. Now seeing that Luo Bingbing had delicious roasted meat to eat, it wanted to follow her every day for more roasted meat, so it went into the hot spring to find this small red grass as a gift.
Luo Bingbing patted the little fox on its head and, wanting to thank it, opened up some wrapped rabbit meat and offered a rabbit leg near its mouth. However, instead of biting down on the roasted meat, the little fox quickly jumped out of her arms and disappeared into the hot spring in just a few blinks. The behavior of the little fox left Luo Bingbing standing by the hot spring utterly confused; clearly, this little creature loved roasted meat so much, yet now that there was roasted meat right in front of it, not only did it not eat it but also jumped into the hot spring.
Before long, a small fox head popped up from the surface of the hot spring. The little fox quickly jumped back into Luo Bingbing's arms while still holding onto another sprig of Crimson Grass.
Seeing this made Luo Bingbing extremely excited; if there was one sprig of grass, then there must be more under the water!
Overjoyed, Luo Bingbing spun around while holding onto the little fox.
The little fox seemed to understand that Luo Bingbing was particularly happy and jumped onto her shoulder, licking her cheek a few times.
At this moment, Luo Bingbing became displeased. She tossed the little fox onto the ground and shouted at it, "You silly fox! Do you want to die? How dare you use your dirty mouth to lick my face and leave drool on me! Be careful or I’ll turn you into roasted fox!"
The little fox felt wronged after being tossed aside by Luo Bingbing; after all, it had done something good by finding treasure for her yet was treated so carelessly. However, upon hearing that she would turn it into roasted fox, fear gripped its heart. It hurriedly backed away a few steps until it felt safe enough to stop. With a pitiful look in its eyes, it gazed at Luo Bingbing while wagging its tail like a small dog.
Seeing such an amusing and adorable expression from the little fox made Luo Bingbing unconsciously smile. When the little fox noticed her smile at the corner of her mouth, it realized that danger had passed and happily ran over to jump back into her arms.
Seeing how spiritual and cute this little creature was made Luo Bingbing think inwardly: "Maybe I should keep it by my side; at least it can help me find treasures."
"Little one, if you go find me some more of these little grasses, I'll cook meat for you every day, okay?"
The little fox seemed to understand her words, lightly nodding its head before turning and leaping into the hot spring.
Before long, a small fox head emerged from the water's surface. When the little fox reached her, Luo Bingbing could see that it was holding five or six stalks of Crimson Grass in its mouth, just like the ones she had. Seeing that the result matched her expectations, her heart surged with excitement—there were indeed many more of these little grasses at the bottom of the hot spring!
She thought to herself: if she used these grasses for cultivation, would she be able to reach the pinnacle of Ability soon—gold rank? If she could refine these grasses into pills, they would be a rare treasure!
Without hesitation, she immediately scanned the area within a five-mile radius with her Spiritual Sense and found no living beings. She waved her hand to set up an invisible barrier. Sitting cross-legged, she activated her Inner Strength and began to absorb the energy elements from the Crimson Grass for cultivation.
As time passed slowly under the flow of water and the changing moonlight, the rising sun was about to set, and the dark night quietly began to unfold.
Luo Bingbing slowly opened her eyes. She felt that while the energy elements in the Crimson Grass were indeed rich, they were only effective at the beginning; afterward, there was no reaction at all. No matter how much she used, it was like a stone sinking into the sea. Thus, she decided not to waste those precious grasses on cultivation anymore.
With a gentle wave of her hand, the invisible barrier vanished. While Luo Bingbing was cultivating, the little fox had not left; it had been kept outside by the barrier and waited patiently at its edge for her to come out. As soon as it saw Luo Bingbing approaching, it excitedly jumped onto her small arm and rested on her tiny shoulder. Its snowy white tail wagged continuously, showing its good mood.
At first, Luo Bingbing had been so focused on her cultivation that she had forgotten about the little fox. Now seeing that this little creature had not only stayed but was also so lively and clingy upon seeing her made her very happy.
