“Shadowless, do you want to kill your master?”
Startled, Shadowless immediately replied, “I’m sorry, Master. I thought it was someone from the Assassin Alliance. I didn’t realize it was you…”
“Enough, enough. Tell me how you ended up in such a sorry state,” Luo Bingbing interrupted Shadowless and asked.
“Yes.” Shadowless began recounting his experiences after leaving the royal palace.
It turned out that as soon as Shadowless left the palace, he rushed to the First Tower to gather information about the Heartless Zither. The First Tower specializes in selling intelligence and is the most reliable information organization in this world. After paying a high price for news that the Heartless Zither had recently appeared near the Moonlit Villa, he immediately headed to Qishan’s Moonlit Villa.
That night, Shadowless planned to sneak into the Moonlit Villa under the cover of darkness to see if he could find any information related to the Heartless Zither. However, before he could enter, an Old Man in Black blocked his way at the high courtyard wall. Despite his desire to investigate, the old man insisted on stopping him. Thus, they engaged in battle, fighting for hundreds of rounds until the old man injured Shadowless with an Ice Palm, forcing him to retreat.
Injured, Shadowless sought a place to heal. Just as he emerged from a pharmacy with medicine in hand, he spotted a group of people from the Assassin Alliance approaching from across the street. They noticed him too. Seeing Shadowless, they intended to capture him and take him back to the headquarters of the Assassin Alliance. Therefore, despite his injuries, Shadowless had no choice but to fight them off. Although their skills were not particularly strong, they outnumbered him significantly. After some time, he found himself heavily wounded. If he hadn’t been so severely injured beforehand, they would have posed no threat to him; now, he could only flee. In his panic, he ran toward the nearby Purple Bamboo Forest without realizing it.
After listening to Shadowless’s account, just as Luo Bingbing was about to speak, she noticed that members of the Assassin Alliance were already rushing towards them. She quickly suppressed her words and coldly stared at the approaching figures.
The members of the Assassin Alliance, seeing that Shadowless was ahead and seemingly too injured to move, assumed he was incapacitated. Beside him stood a little girl around six years old. Since they had never seen Luo Bingbing, they underestimated her and paid her no mind. They stopped about three meters away from her, forming a semi-encirclement around both her and Shadowless.
Upon closer inspection, they saw that the little girl wore a purple gauze dress with her hands tied behind her back. Her long hair was styled into a high ponytail, and her porcelain-like face bore no makeup—delicate and flawless. Her cherry-red lips curled into a bright smile, and her thick eyelashes resembled butterfly wings. Her eyes sparkled like stars but radiated an overwhelming chill; beneath them lay an endless indifference.
Seeing such cold indifference in someone so young astonished them and instilled fear within their hearts because that gaze was even more chilling than their leader's. The temperature around them plummeted rapidly; even their leader had never made them feel this afraid.
With a cheerful smile, Luo Bingbing said, “Today seems lively; I wonder what wind blew so many of you here. However, I usually don’t allow outsiders into this place. Not only did you come in uninvited, but you also hunted down my subordinate. You’ve broken two of my rules, so you must pay the corresponding price. And since I don’t want to ruin this beautiful Purple Bamboo Forest because of you all, I will show mercy and break one of your arms.”
Before anyone could react to Luo Bingbing’s words, they felt a flash before their eyes; suddenly, their right arms fell to the ground without them even registering pain until later. They were all deeply shocked and terrified that so many top assassins could not even see her shadow before losing an arm—and she was just an unknown six-year-old child.
Luo Bingbing continued, “I know you’re just following orders; go back and tell your leader to wrap things up quickly. I will come for his life in three days. Now get lost!”
As assassins who must always maintain a clear and calm mind, they immediately retreated upon hearing Luo Bingbing’s words while leaving Shadowless behind.
Although it was only the second time for Shadowless to witness Luo Bingbing in action, he remained deeply shocked. Having trained with her every night previously, he sensed that her skills had improved even more than before. He felt both happy for her progress and disheartened about when he would be able to catch up.
“How is your injury?” As his thoughts drifted away, he heard Luo Bingbing’s youthful voice beside him.
Hearing Luo Bingbing's words, Shadowless quickly replied, "It's fine, I won't die!"
"Good. Then sit on that big rock over there. I'll help you heal your wounds."
"Yes." Shadowless constantly blamed himself in his heart for being useless and too weak.
Luo Bingbing used her healing ability to mend all of Shadowless's injuries, but she herself almost fainted from expending too much energy. Fortunately, Shadowless was there to catch her just in time, preventing her from collapsing.
"Master, it is my incompetence that nearly caused you to faint for my sake."
"It's nothing. A good sleep will fix me. You carry me back first! It's almost dawn."
"Yes." Shadowless used all his strength to carry Luo Bingbing back to the royal residence, carefully avoiding the hidden guards inside, and returned to Luo Bingbing's room through the window. He laid her down on the bed and tucked her in before hiding away in the shadows to watch over her.
As noon approached, the sun shone brightly in the sky, flowers bloomed vibrantly, and the earth seemed to be draped in a golden veil.
The nursemaid noticed that Luo Bingbing had not yet gotten up and went to knock on the door, but there was no response from inside. This was unusual; she grew anxious, fearing something had happened to the Little Princess. She considered barging in to check but paused when she heard Shadowless's voice in her mind.
"Nursemaid, please don't make noise. The master is fine; she might just be too tired from yesterday and still needs rest!" Shadowless sensed the nursemaid's intention to knock and hurriedly communicated with her telepathically.
Upon hearing Shadowless's words, the nursemaid quickly stopped. The sudden voice startled her greatly, but instead of blaming Shadowless, she felt grateful for his reassurance and abandoned her plan to knock, returning to her own tasks.
Time slipped away swiftly; as the sun began to set, Luo Bingbing still had not risen to open the door. The nursemaid felt a twinge of worry again and contemplated knocking once more but hesitated, fearing it might disturb her if she was still asleep. She lingered at Luo Bingbing's door, indecisive.
Meanwhile, Shadowless noticed that Luo Bingbing had not yet woken up and saw the nursemaid pacing at the door, unsure whether to knock or not. He understood she was worried about their master but remembered that Luo Bingbing had said a good sleep would restore her health. Since she hadn't gotten up yet, it meant she likely hadn't fully awakened. He once again sent a secret message to the nursemaid, urging her not to knock and risk waking Luo Bingbing; she would naturally get up and open the door when she was ready.
Though still somewhat puzzled by Shadowless's words, the nursemaid ultimately chose to walk away quietly.
As night fell and lights began to twinkle in Piaoyun Pavilion while darkness enveloped the outside world like thick ink—so dense that even the stars' faint glow was obscured—the candlelight flickered gently within. The warm yellow light cast a soft glow on the nursemaid's face as she sat upright in an intricately carved chair. Seeing how late it had become without any sign of Luo Bingbing waking up made her quite anxious; she feared that when she did awaken, she might feel hungry and want something to eat. Thus, she remained outside, keeping the food warm.
Suddenly, the voice of Shadowless echoed in her ears again. "Nursemaid, you should rest for now! The master will call for you when she wakes up. I'll stay here and watch over her."
Shadowless was also very worried about Luo Bingbing. After the Nursemaid fell asleep, she entered the room through the window of Luo Bingbing's chamber. In the darkness, she vaguely saw a small figure lying on the bed, and the quiet room was filled with her steady breathing. Shadowless felt that only in this moment, while dreaming, did she resemble a six-year-old child.
In the morning, as dawn broke, the Golden Crow slowly rose from the horizon, casting golden sunlight into every corner.
Inside the room, Luo Bingbing slowly opened her eyes. Perhaps due to sleeping for too long and being in darkness, she found the light blinding. After blinking a few times, she finally felt comfortable. She knew that after a good sleep, her abilities had fully recovered. After getting dressed, she opened the door and let the Nursemaid in to help her wash up.
Seeing that after a day and night, the Little Princess's door had finally opened, the Nursemaid confirmed that Little Princess was fine, and a heavy stone in her heart finally settled down. She happily went in to help Luo Bingbing wash up.
Noticing the smile on the Nursemaid's face, Luo Bingbing teased, "Nursemaid, did you find gold or silver this morning? You look so happy!"
The Nursemaid replied with a playful smile, "Don't be silly; I'm just happy to see you safe!"
Perhaps due to the strong medicine Luo Bingbing took that day, no one dared to cause trouble at Piaoyun Pavilion for these past two days. However, there were many servants outside Piaoyun Pavilion trying to gather information. They didn't dare approach too closely and could only watch from afar.
Meanwhile, those inside Piaoyun Pavilion paid no mind to outsiders' thoughts and continued doing what they needed to do without any change. During the day, Luo Bingbing lounged in a chair soaking up the sun, and at night she practiced with Shadowless in the Purple Bamboo Forest outside Back Mountain.
Today marked the third day and also the day when Luo Bingbing declared she would deal with the leader of the Assassin Alliance. During the day, she asked Shadowless to help her buy several sets of purple and black male attire. Once the clothes were brought back, Luo Bingbing felt it was necessary to design some outfits she liked because these clothes were too common and lacked character; garments made from both the best and worst fabrics looked identical and were utterly bland!
