Liendel expressionlessly snapped the iron bars in his hands, his golden eyes filled with a chilling intent to kill.
Aivino understood his feelings; it was not only anger at the humiliation of the Queen but also a deeper rage directed at himself.
The previous Queen had maliciously manipulated their consciousness through the Mental Link, leading them into battle. That painful period of being unable to control their own will was something every High-level Insectoid desperately wanted to forget.
They had sworn never to serve the Queen again, yet with just a single Mental Link and a glance at the new monarch, they found themselves unable to resist the urge to protect her.
The innocent and confused dark eyes had transformed into beast-like slits, an intimidating aura pressing down on the auctioneer.
The Zerg were born predators; even a newly emerged Queen concealed fangs beneath her seemingly fragile exterior.
Powerful Psychic Power radiated from her, effortlessly tearing apart the sturdy Alloy Cage. The immense energy surged through the entire Auction House, uprooting all the chairs that had been fixed to the ground and wreaking havoc throughout the auction venue.
When Liendel and Aivino arrived, they were met with a scene reminiscent of a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
The girl stood amidst the ruins of the cage she had shattered, casually surveying her surroundings like a newly descended deity.
This was their new Queen.
The High-level Insectoids felt a sense of confusion in their memories.
Laya also heard their footsteps and turned to look at them.
Although they had never met, an inexplicable warmth and excitement surged within her. Even without any memories of them, her instincts whispered the word "family."
Could they be the most important family members she had been searching for, even after losing her memory? She didn't know the answer, but joy began to bloom within her.
Suddenly, the tense Laya relaxed, a warm smile appearing at the corners of her mouth and in her eyes.
If Laya had just moments ago been a cold and mature hunter, now she resembled an innocent and naive girl. This girl reined in all her oppressive spirit and stumbled toward them.
With a soft thud, the girl fell to the ground, staring blankly at her bruised leg, wondering why walking felt so strange.
Then she lifted her head and looked at the two men standing close by. Naturally, she propped herself up slightly and confidently opened her arms toward the silver-haired man nearest to her, as if asking for a hug.
Liendel felt an urge to step back, but his instincts rooted him in place.
Even so, he was on high alert, every cell in his body resisting the urge to touch the Queen.
Though this newly born Queen was not that person, he harbored a strong dislike for the Queen's ability to command the Zerg effortlessly despite appearing so fragile.
What would the new queen do next? If he continued to refuse to pick her up, she would likely initiate a Mental Link to manipulate him into compliance.
Liendel smirked derisively; the Mental Link was something an Insect King would instinctively grasp upon birth. Even without knowledge, as long as there was a genetic inheritance imprinted within her, she would automatically connect with nearby Zerg wherever she was born, compelling them to serve her.
Thinking of this made Liendel's head throb again. The Former Queen had repeatedly forced a link with his Psychic Power against his will, issuing commands that inflicted irreversible damage on his mind.
Even though that guy had been dead for so many years, the damaged Brain Region would still flare up from time to time.
The pain intensified, and in an instant, Liendel let out a muffled groan as he clutched his head.
When he looked up again, the golden hue of his eyes was tinged with a hint of blood. The girl before him, arms outstretched, transformed from a face filled with anticipation into one that was harsh and repulsive.
Distant memories sent Liendel's mind spiraling further into chaos. He grinned widely and strode toward Laya.
Aivino had been preoccupied with thoughts of the Queen, but it was only then that he realized what was happening.
"Liendel, wait!"
But it was too late; at this distance, the High-level Insectoids could slice the frail Queen into pieces in less than a second. There was no hope left for her.
