I was in a coma for three months after the car accident.
The first thing I noticed upon waking up was that my son had removed my Oxygen Mask. After being sternly stopped by the nurse, my husband frowned in displeasure. "The child thinks it's fun, so let him play with it for a bit. With so many medical staff around, do you think she will die?"
My son made a funny face and then pulled out my IV needle before putting it back in again. Just as I was about to stop him, I heard him cheerfully say, "It would be better if she died. That way, Aunt Huanhuan can be my new mom!"
I was both angry and amused. I turned to the system and said, "Let the Second Male Lead take over."
The system was surprised by my sudden request for the Second Male Lead to take over, knowing that I had initially chosen to stay because of my loving husband and adorable son.
"Host, your husband is now Newly Rich in the Capital, with considerable wealth. If the Second Male Lead takes over, the halo belonging to the male lead will disappear."
"At that time, your husband's social status and wealth will vanish, and your son will go from being an heir of the nouveau riche to an ordinary person."
"Are you really sure about this?"
I opened my mouth but didn't know how to respond. Then I heard my son's innocent yet cruel voice nearby.
"Dad, the doctor said Mom is about to wake up. If she wakes up, Aunt Huanhuan won't be able to be my mom anymore, right?"
After a long pause, I heard a deep male voice reply.
"Then let's make sure she never wakes up again. An An will help Dad with that, right?"
My son excitedly raised his little fist and said, "Of course! I will definitely chase away bad Mommy and protect Aunt Huanhuan!"
"Host, host?"
I snapped back to reality and replied calmly, "I'm sure because a scumbag isn't worth holding onto."
In fact, before my car accident, I had already noticed some signs.
Jiang Huanhuan is the live-in nanny and infant care specialist I found for An An. She graduated from a prestigious university with a degree in early childhood education, has passed the highest level of English proficiency, and speaks fluently.
Aside from being young and beautiful but lacking experience, she meets all my expectations. An An is five years old this year, and she has been living with us for five years. Jiang Huanhuan has taught An An well; she maintains good hygiene, is polite to strangers, and can communicate fluently in English at such a young age. I feel very pleased.
That was until three days before the car accident when I finished filming and returned home early to surprise them. Instead, I saw An An cuddling up to Jiang Huanhuan.
“Aunt Huanhuan, will you pick me up from kindergarten in the future? Can I call you Mama Huanhuan?”
“Why?”
“Other kids have their moms pick them up, but I don’t! I want my mom to pick me up from school too.”
My son obediently rested his head on Jiang Huanhuan's lap.
“Your mom is busy with work; didn’t you see her on TV yesterday?”
“Hmph! I saw! She was kissing another man! I want to tell Dad to divorce her! Then Aunt Huanhuan can marry Dad, and Aunt Huanhuan can be my mom!”
Jiang Huanhuan not only did not correct An An's words but also playfully tapped An An's little nose.
“What a clever little thing!”
I pretended not to see anything and knocked on the door.
“Ah, Sister Yuan is back.”
The household staff all call me Madam, but only Jiang Huanhuan calls me Sister Yuan. I squatted down and opened my arms toward my son: “An An, guess who’s back? Come here, Mommy wants a hug!”
But my son frowned and slapped my hand away. He scolded me for interrupting his bedtime time with Jiang Huanhuan. My arm was left stinging red from his slap.
I let out a sigh, worried that An An would feel guilty, and I hid my arm behind my back. I masked my disappointment, thinking that maybe being away from him for so long during filming had made him upset with me. After all, he is just a five-year-old baby; how could I hold it against him?
In the evening, my husband returned from a social gathering. I hugged him from behind and told him about our son's reaction tonight. He brushed my hand away coldly, saying he was tired. Before going to bed, he tiredly advised me not to be too sensitive, explaining that it was normal for our son to be close to those who take care of him since he is still young.
After reflecting on his words, I realized he had a point. Suppressing my unease, I decided to temporarily decline the work with the film crew and stay home to spend quality time with my son.
