The Tang Code was strict and regulated, but some officials abused their power, facing severe consequences. However, Gao Di built a dungeon in his own residence, revealing how far he had strayed from the law.
Xu Zhen was quite interested in Gou Renwu's identity. He appeared refined like a scholar, yet his movements were calm and restrained, indicating a profound foundation in internal martial arts. When Xu Zhen took the hairpin from him, she noticed the thick calluses on his hands, suggesting he had spent years wielding weapons. The strange marks on his fingertips indicated he was a skilled Archer.
With so many factors surrounding one person, it was clear that Gou Renwu was no ordinary individual; otherwise, he wouldn't have been imprisoned by Gao Di.
Upon hearing Gou Renwu's request, Xu Zhen felt uneasy. After all, she knew little about his background. If he were a ruthless killer, releasing him could bring disaster to the world.
Seeing Xu Zhen hesitate, Gou Renwu quickly explained, " Xu Zhen, please do not worry. I am merely a descendant of a fallen gentry family who refuses to be manipulated. I have been imprisoned out of Gao Di's jealousy. If you are still concerned, you may bind me and take me away. If I am truly a villain, I only ask for death!"
Xu Zhenxin was worried about Caesar and Zhang Suling's safety. Gou Renwu's honesty dispelled any doubts she had. She waved her hand, and Gou Renwu immediately followed.
The three of them escaped the iron cage but saw two jailers ahead drinking and laughing, their faces flushed. Zhou Cang rushed forward like a gust of black wind; the jailers became alert and drew their swords to attack. However, Zhou Cang kicked one away, sending him crashing into the wall and knocking him unconscious.
The other jailer saw Zhou Cang's strength and turned to flee while calling for help. Xu Zhen swiftly grabbed him by the neck. Startled, he swung his sword at her; she dodged just in time and closed in on him, using her shoulder to knock him back while simultaneously seizing his wrist. As he fell to the ground, she took his long knife.
Xu Zhen held the long knife against the jailer's throat and confirmed Gao Di's location before kicking him unconscious. Zhou Cang picked up a knife as well. Seeing various torture instruments hanging on the wall, Gou Renwu chose a thorn whip to join Xu Zhen and Zhou Cang in escaping the prison.
Once outside the cell door, they spotted several Bodyguards patrolling the area around the dungeon. Xu Zhen couldn't afford to discuss their next steps in detail; she feared that if they delayed too long, Caesar and Zhang Suling would fall victim to Gao Di's schemes. She subdued Zhou Cang and Gou Renwu while using Caesar's signature stealth technique to move silently along the wall like a shadow merging with the night.
Although Gao Mansion was lit throughout, the dungeon entrance was located in a secluded part of the backyard where light could not reach. The patrolling Bodyguards were using torches for illumination when they saw Gao Di returning with two beautiful women. They intended to take advantage of the patrol to sneak into Gao Di's quarters for some entertainment but were caught off guard when a large hand covered their mouth and nose while a heavy blow struck their lower back, causing them to lose consciousness.
After taking down one guard, Xu Zhen quickly moved toward another. Zhou Cang and Gou Renwu followed suit; none of them were ordinary individuals. They struck swiftly and silently, soon incapacitating four or five Bodyguards before dragging them into the dungeon. They quickly changed into Bodyguard uniforms and armed themselves with their weapons before heading toward Gao Di's room.
At that moment, Gao Di found himself in quite a predicament as he gazed at Caesar and Zhang Suling sleeping on the bed like celestial beings sculpted from jade. His eyes filled with lust as he licked his lips and rubbed his hands together, unsure of which one to approach first.
Gao Di was known for being ruthless towards beautiful women; seeing Zhang Suling’s delicate form made him think she must be untouched. He grinned wickedly as he pounced on her, inhaling her fragrance that resembled pure orchids—instantly igniting the wicked fire within him!
Just as he was about to commit his heinous act, shouts and screams erupted from outside the room, accompanied by the clashing sounds of metal. Through the window, flickering flames could be seen dancing around, indicating that a commotion had broken out!
Gao Di had long been a tyrant in the village, oppressing the common people. The Tang people were martial and often had assassins among them, but he was used to it and usually remained carefree. This time was no different; he paid no mind to it. With a swift motion, he tore open Zhang Suling's clothing at her chest, revealing her snow-white skin that glowed faintly. Gao Di felt his blood boiling, his heart racing wildly as he leaned in to take a bite out of Zhang Suling.
At that moment, Zhang Suling also slowly regained consciousness. Upon seeing such a vile face before her, she quickly pressed her hand against the villain's jaw and brought her legs together, trying to use her knees to push this beast away!
Gao Di did not expect Zhang Suling to wake up so promptly. Instead of being angry, he felt delighted; if she were completely unaware, it would have been less enjoyable. The more this delicate young lady struggled, the sweeter the experience became.
Zhang Suling was not without skill, but she had never properly trained in practical martial arts. Her punches and kicks were merely for show from her time in the brothel—impressive but ineffective. Gao Di was heavyset, and as Zhang Suling realized she could not resist any longer, despair filled her heart with grief and anger!
While she desperately defended herself and screamed loudly, Caesar remained fast asleep. Gao Di grew increasingly furious; the wicked fire within him transformed into immense strength, pushing Zhang Suling to the brink of despair!
Although her screams did not awaken Caesar, they reached the nearby Xu Zhen. However, she was in dire straits herself, having encountered over twenty bodyguards led by Yang Kui and was currently engaged in a life-and-death struggle. She could not spare any effort to save Zhang Suling!
Xu Zhen had intended to hold back since there was no enmity between them. Yet now that the situation was critical, if she hesitated any longer, Zhang Suling's innocence would be lost!
A surge of rage erupted from Xu Zhenxin as her long knife danced through the air with newfound vigor. If Xu Zhen had previously resembled a majestic stag that commanded respect, she now resembled a roaring tiger charging through the forest!
These bodyguards had committed countless atrocities; Zhou Cang, hailing from the Green Forest, naturally showed no mercy. Gou Renwu had been imprisoned in the dungeon and endured humiliation; he too would not hold back. In an instant, the three of them carved a bloody path through their enemies!
Many bodyguards fled in panic; although they were terrified, they gathered in increasing numbers. Not daring to engage Xu Zhen and her companions in close combat, they resorted to using bows and crossbows instead!
Yang Kui was known for his ruthlessness and had previously participated in campaigns against bandits in northern Youzhou, engaging in fierce battles against remnants of the Sui Dynasty. He was considered one of the warriors among them. Seeing Xu Zhen's ferocity made him hesitant to confront her directly; instead, he waited for an opportunity to launch a sneak attack!
Having just knocked down a tall bodyguard with a long beard, Xu Zhen suddenly felt a chill behind her. Her instincts kicked in as she instinctively turned her head away just as a long knife whizzed past her face, leaving a deep gash that caused blood to flow profusely!
Seeing their lord under attack, Zhou Cang's eyes widened with fury as he gritted his teeth and brandished his dual knives at Yang Kui. Startled by Zhou Cang's fierce demeanor, Yang Kui hurriedly retreated while an archer stepped forward and began shooting wildly at Zhou Cang!
"Big Guy! Come back!"
Seeing Zhou Cang's relentless pursuit, Xu Zhen was greatly alarmed and quickly shouted out. However, Zhou Cang was consumed by his fervor and paid no heed to Xu Zhen's words. He swung his dual blades fiercely, creating an impenetrable barrier as he deflected the Feathered Arrows, even managing to sever the tails of some powerful crossbow bolts, though the arrowheads still pierced his body.
Yet Zhou Cang's mind was solely focused on Xu Zhen's safety, much like the unparalleled loyalty of Dian Wei during the late Han Dynasty in the Three Kingdoms. He disregarded the rain of arrows falling around him, bravely enduring several strikes to finally crash into the crowd of Archers, slashing wildly.
Xu Zhen witnessed Zhou Cang fighting for her life, a surge of heat filled her heart, and a wave of killing intent surged forth. Her eyes turned blood-red as she dragged her blade and began to sprint towards the damned Yang Kui!
Yang Kui hid among the crowd and felt a chill run down his spine at the sight of Xu Zhen charging like a furious beast. He quickly pushed his Servants forward to shield himself.
Xu Zhen was accustomed to wielding a long knife and had extensive battlefield experience. The dozens of Bodyguards were nothing more than bags of meat in her eyes. Although the long knife in her hand was not her own, she wielded it with proficiency, charging into the crowd like a fierce tiger descending from the mountain. Blood sprayed into the air as she cut through them; the Bodyguards stood no chance!
Gou Renwu lashed out with a thorn whip like a venomous snake, ensnaring one Bodyguard's neck and yanking hard, nearly severing it completely!
Seeing Zhou Cang and Xu Zhen break into the enemy ranks, Gou Renwu could not fall behind. Just as an Archer aimed to shoot Xu Zhen from behind, he swiftly swung his whip, sending that Archer flying. He discarded the whip and picked up a sturdy bow, nocking three Feathered Arrows with one hand. As he drew back the bowstring like a full moon, the ordinary poplar bow creaked under pressure!
The three Feathered Arrows shot forth with uncanny precision, striking down three Gao Mansion servants who fell to the ground in response.
"Three arrows in quick succession! What remarkable archery skills!"
Xu Zhen was taken aback by Gou Renwu's astonishing marksmanship. A hypothesis formed in her mind, but there was no time to ponder it now. She shook off the blood from her long knife, scattering three or four blossoms of blood before charging once more towards Yang Kui!
Gou Renwu nocked another three Feathered Arrows. The servants were already terrified and fled deeper into the mansion. Gou Renwu drew back his bowstring again, but this time it could not withstand the strain and snapped with a loud crack!
As the servants saw this turn of events and attempted to rush forward again, Gou Renwu seized another bow. This time he dared not shoot three arrows at once; instead, he drew and released them smoothly like flowing water. Just as he shot one arrow, he immediately released another with hardly any pause in between—each shot hit its mark without fail!
Seeing three brave individuals attacking him relentlessly while Zhou Cang dispersed many Archers, Yang Kui raised his right-hand blade and hurled it forward with great force!
"Thud! Thud!"
Zhou Cang, with immense strength, pierced through a servant with his long knife, crashing into another servant behind him and sending that servant flying. His brute force was evident!
Xu Zhen cut down a servant, leaving Yang Kui with nowhere to hide. Gritting his teeth, he bravely stepped forward to block the attack. Xu Zhenxin, filled with anger, showed no mercy as he knocked the knife from Yang Kui's hand and struck again, severing half of Yang Kui's head!
The servants were already terrified, their courage shattered. Seeing Yang Kui dead, they scattered like birds and beasts without a leader.
Zhou Cang had three or four Feathered Arrows stuck in him; however, his tough skin and flesh made these minor injuries negligible. He casually pulled out the Feathered Arrows and tossed them to the ground without changing his expression, leaving Gou Renwu dumbfounded. He exclaimed, "Truly a reincarnation of Dian Wei!"
Zhou Cang chuckled and replied to Gou Renwu, "Brother Renwu's archery skills are also remarkable!"
Xu Zhen and the two men exchanged smiles, filled with heroic spirit!
At that moment, a scream echoed from Gao Di's room once more. This time it was not a woman's voice but Gao Di's pig-like cries!
The three rushed into the room only to find Zhang Suling covered in blood, holding a hairpin in her hand, while Gao Di lay on the ground, blood gushing from his lower body!
