Looking at Su Jin'er’s unconscious face, he revealed a sinister smile, picking her up in his arms and walking in the opposite direction of the school, a smile lingering on his face. Perhaps his smile was gentle, but his disfigured face made it appear terrifying.
From time to time, he pressed his face against Su Jin'er’s, slowly rubbing against her as if cherishing a beloved toy.
“Jin'er, heh heh, from today on, you belong to me alone.”
His figure holding Su Jin'er gradually disappeared into the desolate land.
Not long after Su Jin'er left the hospital, Chu Feifan, feeling uneasy about her being alone, chased after her. However, since he didn’t know where Jin'er had gone, he searched around the campus but couldn’t find her. Thus, he ran toward the outside of the school.
Could she be going home?
Thinking of this, he ran toward home but encountered Captain Xing on the street.
“Have you seen Jin'er come out?” Chu Feifan asked anxiously, a bad premonition stirring in his heart, though he was reluctant to believe it.
“No! Jin'er is missing?”
“Yes, she suddenly threw a tantrum and then ran out.”
“Is Zuo Yi in the ward?”
Chu Feifan looked at Captain Xing in confusion; he was asking about Jin'er, so why was Zuo Yi mentioned?
Nevertheless, he politely replied, “He was still there when I came out.”
“Quickly implement the capture!”
Chu Feifan stared at them in shock, "Why are you capturing him? Is he Killer?"
"That's right, and he is not Zuo Yi at all."
"What?"
Chu Feifan stood there in disbelief. Zuo Yi is Killer, and he is not Zuo Yi?
Captain Xing didn't have time to explain, only saying, "Quickly go find Jin'er, otherwise she will be in danger."
Chu Feifan immediately snapped back to reality and ran home, while Captain Xing and the others headed to the hospital.
The man in black carried Su Jin'er into a small room, placing her on a bed in the dark. He then walked to the corner of the room, turned on the light, and sat quietly by the bed, gazing at Su Jin'er's face.
After a few minutes, he stood up and left the room.
Not long after he left, Su Jin'er slowly woke up. She touched her still-painful neck and sat up, realizing she was not in that desolate land but in a room. The room was about thirty to forty square meters, with a window covered by heavy black curtains. The furnishings were simple, consisting of just a bed and a chair, and the dim yellow light made the room feel like a ghostly hell.
At the moment she fainted, she had only seen a Black Shadow and did not catch a glimpse of the person's face, but she smelled a familiar scent.
She pulled at the door, confirming it was locked from the outside. Then she walked to the window; the curtains were completely nailed to the wall. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't pull them open and eventually had to give up.
Sitting on the only chair, she thought that this place must be somewhere familiar to her. Killer wouldn't have nailed the curtains so securely if he wasn't afraid of her discovering something.
It was all her fault for impulsively running out; she wondered how Chu Feifan was frantically searching for her now.
Wait! Why did she think that Chu Feifan was searching for her like a madman? He could also be Killer! Maybe even Zuo Yi would be looking for her as well!
Who exactly is Killer?
In fact, she did not want to admit that subconsciously, she hoped Chu Feifan was not Killer. She didn't know why, but ever since that day in the basement of the Old Laboratory, after Zuo Yi came out, she felt that Zuo Yi had become very strange, as if he were a different person. His voice was also not quite the same as before. However, he said it might be due to the medication from Akasaka, so they did not suspect further. Could it be that Zuo Yi was no longer the same Zuo Yi?
If that were true, then what about Zuo Yi?
Had he already been harmed?
Her heart tightened. She had suspected this ever since Linyuan died; Zuo Yi had changed. Yet she still clearly knew that the person Zuo Yi liked was Linyuan, not her. But later, she gradually noticed that the way Zuo Yi looked at her began to change. It was just because she knew he was a friend of Chu Feifan, so he probably wouldn’t do anything excessive. Besides looking at her, he really hadn’t done anything inappropriate; in fact, he had even saved her. Because of this, her doubts about him decreased significantly.
Such speculation made Su Jin'er's heart slowly sink, as if it were about to plunge into an endless darkness, and her head became heavy and dazed.
She did not want to believe this was true. If Killer really was Zuo Yi, she would rather believe he was just overly saddened by the loss of Linyuan, which led him to commit such outrageous acts. She would prefer him to be alive rather than already dead.
At that moment, footsteps came from outside. She quickly lay down on the bed, pretending to still be asleep.
The door opened, and she heard footsteps slowly approaching the bedside. Then the bed sank slightly; she knew that the Killer was now sitting beside her, perhaps staring at her face.
Then she felt his hand reaching toward her face. A shadow blocked her view; although her stomach churned, she kept her eyes tightly shut.
"What a beautiful face; what a pity it would be if it died like this!" His hand gently caressed her face.
His hand slid down her cheek slowly until it reached her collarbone, and then he gently unbuttoned the first button of her shirt.
Su Jin'er screamed inwardly that something was wrong, then suddenly opened her eyes wide and quickly sat up, hugging her shoulders and hiding at the head of the bed.
"What are you doing?"
"Ha ha, I knew you were awake."
Su Jin'er saw a familiar face, but it was Chu Feifan.
"It's you?" Su Jin'er felt a chill run through her body; she never expected it to be Chu Feifan.
"How about that? Surprised, aren't you? But your expression is just as I expected; it's really cute!"
"Why?"
Tears streamed down Su Jin'er's face.
"For no reason, I just like seeing you in a state of panic. Quite unexpected, right?"
"No, you're not Chu Feifan at all." She squinted at him.
"Why not?"
"The night before last, the night Zuo Yi was injured, you were clearly with me holding the flashlight, and you stayed with me the whole time. There was no way you could have knocked Officer Zhang out or stabbed Zuo Yi."
"Ha ha! You're quick on the uptake, but you're wrong. I have accomplices!"
"No, you don't have accomplices. If you were really a Killer, with your cruelty, you wouldn't let your accomplices live."
"You are quite clever. I indeed wouldn't let my accomplices live, and haven't you already seen his corpse?" He said with a smile, his expression still gentle, but to Su Jin'er at this moment, it was utterly detestable.
Su Jin'er widened her eyes in shock. "Are you talking about the headless corpse in the Morgue?"
"That's right, you are indeed very clever. I didn't misjudge you, nor did I like the wrong person." He revealed a lewd smile and reached out his index finger to hook Su Jin'er's chin.
"Get your dirty hands away." Su Jin'er slapped his hand away.
"Wow! How does such a little girl have such strength?"
Hearing his words, Su Jin'er lifted her head and looked at him sharply: "You are not Chu Feifan."
"Oh? So certain."
Su Jin'er got off the bed and walked to the side, keeping her distance from him: "I really don't understand why you all like to impersonate Chu Feifan. Is pretending to be him that fun? Even if you can use a human skin mask to deceive me, and your voice can change, there are some things that can't be imitated."
"Oh? Like what?"
"You don't need to know that."
"Heh heh, alright, stop deceiving yourself. You're just looking for a reason to tell yourself that Chu Feifan won't kill anyone. In reality, you're wrong. Everyone has two sides within them: one light and one dark. Some people cover up their dark side, so they appear as good people, while others hide their light side, making them seem like bad people. Good and bad are merely a matter of perspective. But often, it's hard to distinguish between the two. Take those police officers for example! Would you say they are good or bad people? Of course, you would say they are good because they help catch bad people like us. But to me, they are bad people. When they arrest someone and accidentally kill an innocent person, do you still consider them good?"
"You said it was an accidental killing; of course they are good people."
"Then I can also say that my killings were accidental."
"That's just quibbling."
"This isn't quibbling; it's a principle that exists in this world. Why is it that when they kill someone it's considered an accident, but when we kill someone it's deemed intentional? Perhaps at the moment they accidentally kill someone, they actually hoped to kill them!"
"Alright, I don't want to listen to your nonsense."
“Nonsense? Don't listen? It's not that you don't want to listen, but that you dare not listen, because what I say is the truth. Human nature is like this: once a person kills someone, they will carry a shadow with them. This shadow may haunt them for a lifetime, leading to suicide, or it may turn them into a murderer. I am the latter because I am not a coward.”
Su Jin'er glared at him fiercely: “What kind of reasoning is that? Is not killing someone considered cowardice?”
“Of course not. Tell me, after a person takes a life, isn't that breaking the law?”
“Of course it is.”
“Then you are also breaking the law. I refuse to believe you have never killed an ant.”
“Killing an ant is not against the law.”
“How can it not be? An ant has life too. Why is it that people can kill other animals without consequence, while killing a human is illegal? In the eyes of those animals, we humans are the most terrifying creatures.”
Su Jin'er was completely speechless. She admitted that what he said had some merit, but natural law is like this; even if one feels guilty inside, it cannot change the facts.
However, she chose to remain silent because these words were of no use to the person in front of her.
