"Are we the only ones who knew we were coming here? Is the Killer really among us?" Jiang Jie said seriously.
As soon as Jiang Jie finished speaking, everyone looked at each other, but still couldn't figure out who the Killer might be.
"If the Killer is really among us, he wouldn't trap himself here, would he?" Xiao Liu said. Although he was standing outside, he still looked very cold, hugging his shoulders and shivering.
"Forget about who the Killer is for now; let's think about how to get out! Even if we scream at the top of our lungs here, no one will hear us," Captain Xing said, looking at the elevator doors.
The elevator had been stuck on the third floor; it might not necessarily be a malfunction. Perhaps the Killer did this on purpose, but didn't anyone notice?
"By the way, isn't Zuo Yi in a hospital room on the third floor? And he knows we came to the basement. If we take too long to get back up, he might come to check what's going on," Su Jin'er suddenly said.
Although this hope seemed slim, having hope was better than having none.
"Since we can't get out anyway, why don't we discuss the case here?" Su Jin'er said with a smile to dispel everyone's fear.
Upon hearing Su Jin'er's words, a few of them felt a bit embarrassed. After all, among the six of them, four were police officers, and the remaining one was also a boy being comforted by a little girl, which naturally made them feel awkward.
However, Captain Xing seemed a bit distracted; he furrowed his brows tightly, lost in thought.
"Captain Xing, what are you thinking about?" Chu Feifan asked.
"Oh! It's nothing. I wanted to ask you something."
"Go ahead!"
"Are you close with Zuo Yi?"
Chu Feifan and Su Jin'er looked at each other in confusion. Chu Feifan said, "Yeah! We've grown up together since we were little. What's wrong?"
"Oh! It's nothing, just asking casually, don't take it to heart! Have you noticed anything different about Zuo Yi lately?"
"He's changed a bit, probably because of Linyuan. After that, he became very melancholic, didn't like to laugh or talk anymore, but we can all understand that."
Captain Xing frowned, looking puzzled. "Are you saying that the person he likes is Linyuan?"
"Yes, and Linyuan also died because of him, so it's normal for him to be sad."
"But why do I feel like he likes Jin'er instead?"
Captain Xing's words made the atmosphere instantly awkward. Jiang Jie nudged Captain Xing's arm.
Captain Xing immediately understood and said, "I might have misunderstood. I saw it wrong; don't mind me!"
Su Jin'er and Chu Feifan awkwardly laughed and said it was fine, and then no one spoke again. The already quiet corridor became even quieter. It was so quiet that everyone became cautious with their breathing; they could even hear Xiao Liu's teeth chattering from the cold.
"Hey..."
A heavy sigh suddenly echoed in the corridor.
Fear surged from their feet to the top of their heads.
"Who?"
"Captain Xing" asked cautiously.
Since everyone was very close together and could clearly hear if anyone nearby sighed, this sigh definitely did not come from the six of them. Could there be someone else here?
In the silent corridor, only "Captain Xing's" voice echoed, causing everyone to unconsciously tense up, their hairs standing on end.
"Su Jin'er" pressed tightly against "Chu Feifan," her body trembling continuously.
“Captain, I think the sound came from the Morgue,” "Xiao Liu" said, pointing at the Morgue with a shaking finger.
“Could it be a ghost?” "Xiao Liang" said nervously.
“Don’t be ridiculous! You’re a police officer; how can you say such things?” "Captain Xing" scolded loudly, frightening "Xiao Liang" into hiding behind "Xiao Liu," too scared to speak.
The group entered the Morgue together. Aside from the headless corpse lying on the floor, there wasn’t even a shadow of a ghost. So who had let out that sigh earlier?
Just as they decided to search the entire Morgue, the lights went out unexpectedly. Suddenly, everyone was plunged into darkness; even if two people were only a few centimeters apart, they couldn’t see each other's faces.
Their hearts raced wildly, palms sweaty with fear, leaving everyone frozen in place, too scared to move.
“Everyone stay calm. We need to keep our composure. The Killer is just trying to create confusion, and there are no ghosts in this world; it’s human hearts that are haunted. So don’t be afraid and don’t fall into the Killer’s trap.”
Although everyone felt that "Captain Xing's" words were correct, being in a Morgue filled with dead bodies made anyone feel frightened. They all tried hard to suppress their fear, but still felt their scalp tingle and legs weaken.
However, at that moment, they couldn’t afford to think too much because the air in the basement began to grow murky. A strange odor wafted through the air, and combined with the damp coldness, a chill crept into their clothes.
"Who brought their phones? We can use the flashlight!" Su Jin'er suddenly said, panic making them forget this important invention.
At that moment, everyone remembered they had their phones with them and quickly took them out to provide light. However, even with five phones, they could only illuminate a small area, which was not enough to dispel the fear in their hearts.
"We have five phones; let's use two first. The other three should be turned off, or we'll run out of battery and really be in trouble. Fei Fan, Xiao Jie, and Xiao Liu, you three turn off your phones. Xiao Liang and I will go inside to see who is causing trouble!"
Initially, the other three wanted to follow them inside, but Captain Xing was waiting outside to keep an eye on when the elevator would come down. Xiao Liu stood by the elevator, repeatedly pressing the button, hoping it would arrive soon.
Footsteps could be heard from the morgue belonging to Captain Xing and Xiao Liang. Even though they knew it was just the two of them, the sound still felt as if it were coming from hell.
Su Jin'er thought to herself that if she were trapped here alone, she would surely die of fright before anyone found her. By the time someone discovered her, she might already be frozen like those corpses, her pale face exuding a chilling aura.
Thinking of this made her feel a shiver run down her spine.
Soon, Captain Xing and Xiao Liang emerged, but judging by their expressions, they seemed to have found nothing.
"There’s no one inside," Xiao Liang said.
No one? Then who made that sigh? Was it an illusion? But that couldn't be! It was impossible for six people to share the same hallucination. Could this person be related to Akasaka?
Various speculations raced through Su Jin'er's mind, but she ultimately dismissed them all. She believed everything was orchestrated by that perverted Killer. But why?
What deep-seated grudge could he possibly have against her that he felt compelled to act this way? She had pondered this question countless times but had never come up with an answer. Who could harbor such deep resentment towards her? She truly had no recollection at all!
"Jin'er, can you think of anyone you might have offended or harmed in the past?" Captain Xing suddenly asked.
"Captain, do you think this was also done by that Killer?" Chu Feifan quickly asked. Su Jin'er already felt so guilty; if this incident caused all of them to perish here, she would never forgive herself, even as a ghost!
"Let me think."
Memories from her childhood began to surface in her mind. Since elementary school, she had recalled every event she could remember, but still couldn't come up with anything. She could only shake her head helplessly and later realized they might not see it, so she said, "I can't remember."
Suddenly, her back stiffened, as if millions of ants were crawling on it, an unbearable itch. However, she dared not reach out to scratch; she could only stand there rigidly.
"Someone is behind us."
She whispered, her voice trembling with fear.
The others immediately turned nervously to look behind her, but there was nothing there—only white mist swirling and intertwining.
"There's nothing there!" they replied.
"No, there is. I can feel someone watching me. It's the same kind of gaze I felt in the Concert Hall, malicious yet mixed with greed."
She frowned, still too scared to move.
"Relax a bit; try moving. Maybe you've been standing too long," Chu Feifan said, repeatedly shining his phone behind her but finding no one there. He then suggested.
"Could there be a surveillance camera?" Captain Xing's words made them all alert, and they began searching the surroundings.
"If there really are cameras, how could Jin'er possibly feel it?" Jiang Jie asked in confusion.
"Not necessarily. Some people have a strong sense; as long as someone is watching them, even through a machine, they can still feel it. However, such people are rare—one in a hundred would be considered good."
"Maybe Captain Xing is right; that gaze was in the upper right corner behind me."
"You could feel that?" Jiang Jie found it hard to believe.
Su Jin'er smiled and said, "Not really. When we were looking for that sigh earlier, the light from my phone happened to shine there, and I saw something glowing. I thought it was a droplet of water, so I didn't pay much attention. It was only when Captain Xing mentioned the camera that I remembered."
Knowing there was no one behind her, she turned around and pointed to the corner, saying, "It's right there."
A few people slowly approached with their phones and indeed saw a very small camera. It was already quite dark here, and anyone entering wouldn't casually look over there, so it had gone unnoticed.
"It seems Killer has been monitoring our every move, and that sigh was likely made by him," Captain Xing said.
Although the morgue had no windows, it was dug quite deep during construction—about four or five meters high—so the camera couldn't be taken down.
