After Captain Xing and the others left, the three of them went to the classroom office to explain the situation to the counselor.
Since a counselor is responsible for several classes, they are not very common, and they had almost forgotten what the counselor looked like.
Zhang Jing let them sit down and then went to pour them some water.
Su Jin'er looked at him and thought he seemed excessively thin, which made his already pale skin appear sickly white, leading Su Jin'er to feel that he should be more like a woman.
"What brings you here?" Zhang Jing asked with a smile as he placed the tea in front of the three of them.
Since it was lunchtime, there were only two or three teachers present, and they were quite far away, making it easier for them to talk.
"I just wanted to let you know that I plan to move out," Su Jin'er said.
Zhang Jing was taken aback for a moment, then recalled the situation in Room 414 and said, "That's fine; just complete the necessary procedures."
Afterward, Su Jin'er followed the counselor to complete the paperwork, and then the two boys went with her to the dormitory to pack their things.
"Don't you think the counselor is strange? He seems to be getting thinner!" Su Jin'er asked in confusion.
"I heard that our counselor might have leukemia, which is why his skin has no color, or maybe that's why he has always been so thin!" Chu Feifan replied.
"Really? How pitiful."
"Alright, you should worry about yourself! You're barely managing your own issues and still have time to feel sorry for others," Zuo Yi said irritably.
Su Jin'er shot him a glare but said nothing. Zuo Yi was right; she should be more concerned about herself right now instead of having the leisure to care about others!
She really couldn't understand who the other person was or when she had offended them.
After returning to her dormitory and packing her belongings, she realized there wasn't much to tidy up. Ever since she learned about the administrator's perverse behavior, she didn't even want to touch anything in the room.
So she gathered the clothes she had brought from home, stuffed everything else into a bag, and took it outside. Finally, she glanced back at the dormitory where she had lived for nearly a year. She could almost see the few of them sitting on the bed, laughing and chatting, but time had passed, and everything had changed.
Her eyes began to well up, and her mood grew heavy, as if a stone were pressing down on her heart.
Closing the door behind her, she turned to leave; those two people downstairs must be getting anxious.
When she reached the entrance, she reluctantly walked to the administrator's office and knocked on the door.
"Come in!"
She pushed the door open and walked in. The administrator was sitting at her desk with her legs propped up, happily munching on a chicken leg. Upon seeing Su Jin'er, she quickly put her legs down and wiped her mouth with her sleeve, saying, "What brings you here? Is there something you need?"
Su Jin'er looked at her disgusting smile and nearly gagged. She forced a stiff smile and said, "I'm here to return the key for Room 414."
The administrator stared at her in shock before asking, "Aren't you living in the dorm anymore? Why not?"
"Nothing much, just feel a bit uncomfortable living alone. I left the key here; I have something else to attend to, so I'm leaving."
She really didn't want to see that repulsive face any longer. She clearly noticed a flicker of disappointment in the administrator's eyes, mixed with a hint of anger.
"Alright then!"
The administrator reached out for the key. Su Jin'er hurriedly placed it on the desk and bolted out as if fleeing for her life. She always felt there was a strange odor in the administrator's office that was unbearable—like unwashed underwear that had been worn for too long, making her feel utterly disgusted.
"Is that all you have?" Chu Feifan asked, looking at the bag on Su Jin'er's back.
"Yeah, I threw everything else away. It felt disgusting."
"Uh! Look, your administrator seems to be quite reluctant to let you go!" Hearing Zuo Yi's words, Su Jin'er turned around to see the administrator standing at the door, looking at her with a sorrowful expression. When she noticed Su Jin'er looking back, the administrator waved goodbye with a face that seemed ready to cry, causing Su Jin'er to feel a churn in her stomach.
"Pervert!"
She rarely cursed, but she truly despised this administrator.
"I’m starting to suspect whether she’s a transgender person! A woman who doesn’t get married and lives like this—who knows where the school found such a person to be an administrator," Zuo Yi said with a frown.
"Alright, enough about her. Just hearing about her makes me feel sick."
The house rented by Chu Feifan and Zuo Yi was also on Lotus Street, but it was much more expensive than the one Hao Hongtao rented. In fact, that house was initially not for rent; it was a vacant villa because its owners had moved to the city. It happened that Chu Feifan saw it and decided to rent it. The villa had two floors, but they only rented the first floor.
Su Jin'er looked at the orange-yellow villa and thought it was beautiful, especially with its lovely balcony. Standing on the balcony should give a view of the entire village! However, she wondered if it was possible to access the second floor.
"Hey! This room is yours. We didn’t know what color you liked, so we didn’t decorate it for you. Take a look and see how you want to arrange it; we’ll help you buy things later."
Su Jin'er pushed open the milky-white door, and a double bed came into view. The room only contained three pieces of furniture, all of which were essential: a bed, a desk, and a bookshelf.
"How did you know I wanted a bookshelf?"
"You like reading, so naturally you'd want a bookshelf. We could only think of these three items; you'll have to buy anything else yourself!" Then he added, "I'll pay for it."
Su Jin'er glanced at him without saying anything.
"I like blue, so I want blue curtains."
Hearing her choice of blue, Chu Feifan's eyes flashed with a hint of joy, as he also liked blue.
In the afternoon, the three of them tidied up Su Jin'er's room, and after buying everything they needed, they were all tired from organizing for an entire afternoon and collapsed onto the sofa to rest.
"I wonder if they've identified the deceased," Su Jin'er suddenly said.
"We already know. I've asked some students from the student council to notify the class leaders to pay attention. If anyone goes missing, they should inform me immediately. However, to avoid drawing attention, it might take a little longer," he replied.
The three of them fell silent, and the atmosphere became unusually quiet. It was already past five o'clock, but it was still quite bright outside.
At that moment, the doorbell rang outside. The sudden sound startled them; aside from the three of them, only Jiang Jie knew they were living here. Could it be her?
They exchanged glances, and Chu Feifan stood up, cautiously walking over to ask, "Who is it?"
"Delivery!"
The three of them breathed a sigh of relief. Chu Feifan opened the door to find a young delivery person in a white uniform standing outside.
The young man looked at Chu Feifan and asked, "You're not Su Jin'er, are you?"
Chu Feifan paused for a moment before replying, "No!"
"Oh! Can you let Su Jin'er come out to sign for it? The customer requested her personal signature."
Su Jin'er, sitting inside, heard what he said and stood up to walk over, asking, "Who is your customer?"
"You don't know? I didn't ask either! It's a woman, do you want to sign?"
"Perfect, I haven't eaten lunch, and I'm hungry now. It should be Jiang Jie, Jin'er, you sign!" Zuo Yi said while rubbing his stomach.
Su Jin'er took the pen and signed her name. Although she found it strange, it should be Jiang Jie!
"This box is way too big! What kind of food is inside?" Zuo Yi said as he looked at the square box. Who would use such a large box for takeout? It's really odd!
Su Jin'er placed the box on the coffee table, and Zuo Yi couldn't wait to open it.
However, as soon as he opened it, everyone was instantly shocked into silence because what was inside the box was not takeout at all, but a human head—a bloody human head.
The eyes of the head were wide open, staring blankly as if in death, with blood still lingering at the corners of its mouth. The stench quickly filled the entire living room.
Su Jin'er rushed to the bathroom to vomit, while Chu Feifan and Zuo Yi were not much better off. The two of them ran to another bathroom with pale faces to throw up. Since none of them had eaten much for lunch, what came out was only stomach acid. Their stomachs twisted painfully, but they couldn't bring anything else up and eventually collapsed weakly onto the floor.
Her face was pale, and tears streamed down her cheeks.
She was truly going insane.
Chu Feifan and Zuo Yi, being boys, stepped outside and immediately called Captain Xing to come over. After that, all three kept their distance from the living room; no one wanted to look again at the source of the nauseating stench in the air.
"How could this happen?"
Chu Feifan's gaze passed through the living room and landed on the head on the coffee table as he slowly said, "I know who it is."
"Who is it?"
"He is Wang Fan, a key member of the Student Union's publicity department. He is usually very talkative and quick-witted. It's hard to believe that he is the one who died."
"Wang Fan?" Zuo Yi furrowed his brow in deep thought. "I remember now, he is the one who helped us get the most sponsorship for the Singing Competition, right?"
"Yes, although he is part of the publicity department, he is very personable. However, he has a hobby—he loves to go online, so he often visits the nearby internet café!"
As he spoke, he sighed and shook his head. Such a young life, cruelly taken away.
Su Jin'er felt a sharp pain in her heart; it was all because of her. If it weren't for her, so many people wouldn't have died. She should be the one who deserved to die.
Overwhelming sorrow and grief enveloped her, making it hard for her to breathe. Her fragile nerves were about to snap. How much longer would this continue?
Tears streamed down her face as her lips trembled.
"Jin'er," Chu Feifan called out softly but couldn't continue. This kind of pain was unbearable even for himself!
Footsteps soon echoed from outside the door, but the three of them sat on the ground like they were drained of energy, unable to stand.
