"How do we open this door? Why is there no button?" Chu Feifan frowned, beads of sweat already forming on his forehead.
He felt that Jin'er might have figured out who the Killer was, so the Killer would likely kill to silence her. If Su Jin'er died, what would be the point of him living?
Captain Xing and Ruan Hongmei were also searching for a switch, but they found nothing.
"Is it possible that this door has no switch?" Ruan Hongmei said softly.
"That can't be! There must be one. We need to hurry; otherwise, Jin'er will definitely be in danger. She must have known who the Killer was to get caught."
"Are you sure she knows about the Killer?"
"No! I'm not sure, but do you remember who reported Professor Zhang's death?"
"I think it was the dormitory manager."
"Right. At that time, Jin'er asked him to go with us to open the door. Although I found her actions strange, I didn't question it. Looking back now, it might be because Jin'er knew something, which is why she wanted him to take us there."
"Are you saying that manager is the Killer?"
"Yes. When he saw Professor Zhang's body, he screamed and ran away, but his expression was just too fake. I think Jin'er must have noticed that too."
Ruan Hongmei recalled the manager's expression at that time: "I remember he seemed to smile a little, but it was too dark in the corridor, so I thought I was seeing things and didn't say anything."
As Ruan Hongmei spoke and walked toward them, she accidentally tripped over a rope on the ground. Just as her body was about to hit the floor, Captain Xing caught her.
Strangely enough, the hidden door slowly opened.
"Look! That rope is actually the switch," Chu Feifan exclaimed.
At the same time, a figure in black suddenly stood up: "Not good! Someone has found this place?"
Without a doubt, she knew who had come; she was certain Chu Feifan would find this place.
The man in black looked at Su Jin'er, whose lips curled into a faint smile, and then slowly walked over, gripping her chin tightly as he said, "You brought them in here, didn't you?"
"You’re hurting me." She struggled to break free from his grip, but his hand was like a vice, nearly crushing her bones.
"I'm asking you a question. Answer me!" He stared at her with wide eyes.
"No, don’t forget, it was you who knocked me out and brought me here, and I don’t even know where this place is." She replied through gritted teeth.
The man in black paused for a moment, then released her and began to pace back and forth in the room. He wasn't afraid of them coming in because he had ways to deal with them. However, he had very little of the drug he was researching left. To recreate it would take at least another year, and the materials were not easy to find. More importantly, his research had severely damaged his body. If only he could have a few more days to pass on his findings to his successors, then even if he died, he would have no regrets. But now, those people were coming; did that mean he had to perish with them?
"I can't die yet," he murmured.
Su Jin'er looked at him strangely. "Are you afraid? Do you actually have moments of fear?"
She let out a cold laugh.
"Shut up!" he shouted.
Su Jin'er pouted. "If I had known it would come to this, why did I bother in the first place? You’ve killed so many; dying a thousand times wouldn’t be too much."
"I told you to shut up! Didn't you hear me?" His eyes turned crimson, like an enraged lion, and even his already graying hair seemed ready to stand on end. Su Jin'er thought of how a dog’s fur bristles when it gets angry; at that moment, he resembled a rabid dog about to go mad.
Unable to help herself, she laughed.
"What are you laughing at?"
Hearing Su Jin'er's laughter only fueled his anger further.
"Nothing, just thinking of something funny."
"Something funny? Do you know that I can take your life at any moment? And yet you still have the mood to laugh."
"If you wanted to kill me, you would have done it by now. I don't know why you haven't, but I'm not afraid of you. If you want to kill me, go ahead!"
Saying she wasn't afraid of death was a lie, but she couldn't allow herself to show weakness. Even if she were to die, she wanted to die with dignity. Besides, the person in front of her was a complete psychopath, and a Japanese one at that, who had gone mad enough to think he could conquer all of China by his own strength. Even if all of Japan came over, they wouldn't be able to take even a fraction of China's land!
"Are you really not afraid of death? If you become my disciple, I'll let you go."
"Yes, I'm afraid—very afraid. However, I'd rather die than become your disciple because being your disciple is scarier than death," she said firmly, her gaze unwavering.
"I really admire your courage. However, before they come in, I want to show you a good show. Even if I die, I want to take someone down with me."
Su Jin'er felt a chill run down her spine; she understood what he meant—he was going to kill someone. But who?
"You've already found so many scapegoats; isn't that enough? I won't allow you to kill anyone else."
"Hmph! One person is the same as two; why not find a few more?"
"I get it now; you're just afraid of dying. And that so-called research of yours sounds impressive, but in reality, it's nothing at all. Your research is just nonsense." Su Jin'er blurted out in frustration, and as soon as the words left her mouth, her face flushed red.
The man in black turned to look at her and slowly said something that left Su Jin'er stunned: "Do you know what my name is? My name is Akasaka Akiyo. Remember it—Akasaka Akiyo." After saying this, he actually laughed.
Su Jin'er looked at him in confusion. "Why are you telling me your name?"
"Because I want you to remember me."
With that, he walked into the room where Zuo Yi was confined. Su Jin'er shouted loudly, "No!"
Just as she reached the door of the room, there was a muffled thud followed by a loud bang. Thick blood splattered across her face, and she cried out in pain as her body went limp and fell to the ground.
"Haha! Did you see that? I told you it's best not to let your friends come over; otherwise, they'll end up like him."
The man in black emerged covered in blood and stood before Su Jin'er, his face twisted and terrifying due to the blood splatter.
"You are insane!" Su Jin'er said weakly.
"Yes, I am crazy, but I was driven mad by you all. I have killed so many people, and in the end, I will die too. And I will kill you."
With that, he grinned and stepped closer to Su Jin'er.
She sat on the ground, moving her body backward.
"What's wrong? Are you scared?" he chuckled, closing the distance between them.
She stood up and glared at him fiercely. "I'm not scared. Even if I die, I will take you down with me."
At that moment, clear footsteps echoed from outside. Su Jin'er quickly turned to look behind her. This was a square room, and so far, she had not seen where the door was, nor any windows. However, the air here was not too stale, which meant it was still circulating. But where could the windows be? Where was the door? Could they come in while they were still alive?
A series of questions raced through her mind, and just as she turned back, she saw him pull out a gleaming knife from somewhere.
"Do you know what I like the most?"
He smiled as he slowly ran his hand along the blade.
Su Jin'er did not answer; she focused intently on his every move.
"I love hearing women's screams, especially those of beautiful women. The sound of their painful screams excites me. Right now, I really want to hear your scream."
Su Jin'er looked at him with disgust but remained silent. Suddenly, a flicker of surprise appeared in her eyes but quickly shifted back to fear. He did not notice this change; he was too engrossed in caressing the blade, occasionally licking it with his tongue.
"You are truly disgusting," Su Jin'er suddenly said.
Akasaka Akiyo looked up at her. The moment she saw his face, she froze; he seemed to have aged ten years in an instant, his wrinkled face streaked with tears.
"Do you think I want to kill? Do you know that since I was sent to China, I've never returned home? I don't even know how to speak my mother tongue anymore. My only connection with my family is through letters or emails. It's been so long that I don't even remember what my parents look like. My father told me that if I don't achieve something in China, I should never come back. Do you know how painful it is to feel like you can never go home? Do you really think I'm a murderer because I'm psychologically twisted? Ha! It's just a form of psychological release."
Su Jin'er listened to his words in a daze.
"Just now, when you said my research is worthless, do you know how I felt? That research took nearly half my life. It ruined my body and made me unable to have children, which is why I've always been alone. Do you know the feeling of loneliness? Hmph! You don't understand anything. Now that my life is coming to an end, I want to tell you that my research is not worthless; it is very useful. In fact, it can be considered a medicine used for treating mental illnesses. If used excessively, it can cause hallucinations, but if the dosage is correct, it can cure patients. Now, do you still say my research is worthless?"
Su Jin'er was stunned. She had never thought that a person who could kill without blinking would actually research medicine. Even so, he still used it to kill, didn't he? So it was still unforgivable!
"Even so, you can't use it to kill!"
"They deserve to die!"
"No one in this world deserves to die. Even if someone does, it's not up to you to take their life; the law will decide."
"The law? You still believe in the law? Do you even know how Dreamer died? Hmph! You don't know anything at all." He said again.
