Su Jin'er looked at them in confusion. When did a fiancée come up? Why didn't he mention it? How could he still like Xiaoyuan if he had a fiancée? 0

"What is going on here? Can someone explain this to me?" 0

"It's actually quite simple. It's because Xiao Yi and she were born on the same day, and their fathers are good friends, so they verbally agreed to an engagement. As for whether it's true or not, even Zuo Yi might not know. I only heard Xiao Yi mention it casually, but he didn't take it seriously." 0

Su Jin'er frowned. "Have you met Zuo Yi?" 0

Ruan Hongmei shook her head. "No, we originally lived here, but then we immigrated to Canada and just returned this year. I only heard this year that I have a fiancé studying here, and after hearing your story, I came to school here, but I haven't met my fiancé yet before all this happened." 0

"She appeared on the night Zuo Yi went missing." 0

"Have you seen Zuo Yi?" 0

Ruan Hongmei shook her head again. "No, but after returning, we visited Uncle Zuo, and he showed us a photo of Zuo Yi." 0

Chu Feifan suddenly burst out laughing. 0

Su Jin'er lightly tapped him and said, "What are you laughing at?" 0

"Uncle wouldn't have shown you Zuo Yi's nude photo, would he?" 0

Hearing Chu Feifan's words, Ruan Hongmei's face turned bright red. She awkwardly nodded and shook her head at the same time, her movements stiff as she lowered her gaze. 0

"Is that really funny? Everyone has those kinds of photos from childhood, right?" 0

Chu Feifan continued to laugh uncontrollably. 0

"That photo wouldn't be one from after he grew up, would it?" Su Jin'er frowned. If that were the case, Uncle Zuo seemed a bit irresponsible as a father. 0

Ruan Hongmei quickly explained, "Not exactly. It was just a photo of Ayi when she was 14 and drunk; Uncle Zuo didn't show it to me on purpose. It just fell out when he was flipping through some things, and that's how I saw it." 0

"Wow haha—" Chu Feifan laughed even louder, completely losing the image of a handsome guy. 0

"That photo couldn't have been taken by you, right?" Ruan Hongmei asked softly. 0

Chu Feifan held his stomach and nodded, "It was taken by me. I thought he had already gotten rid of it, but I didn't expect he still kept it. I just mentioned it casually earlier, and I didn't think it was actually true." 0

After saying that, he burst into laughter again, but the laughter gradually lost its strength and eventually turned into quiet sobs. 0

Chu Feifan was crying? 0

If Cheng He’s earlier tears were an act, then Chu Feifan was genuinely crying now. 0

Su Jin'er looked at him in surprise, unsure of what to do. This was the first time she had seen a boy cry. 0

His tears nearly broke Su Jin'er’s heart. Although they still weren't sure if Zuo Yi was safe, they both knew deep down that the chances of Zuo Yi being alive were almost zero. 0

After a few minutes, Chu Feifan lifted his head, wiped his tears, and smiled as he said, "Alright, let's go back to the dorm!" 0

Even though he was smiling, they all knew his heart was bleeding. A boy could cry in front of two girls, which meant he was truly heartbroken. 0

As the saying goes: A man’s tears are not easily shed; however, there is another saying: It’s just that he hasn’t reached the point of heartbreak yet. 0

Chu Feifan still accompanied Su Jin'er to the bottom of the girls' dormitory. He only left slowly after watching them go upstairs. In fact, when he heard Captain Xing say that what they found was a jade pendant, he already knew that Zuo Yi's situation was dire. He had only taken off that pendant while showering; otherwise, he always wore it close to his neck. No one else knew about it except for his best friend. Now that the criminal police team had found the pendant, Zuo Yi must be in great danger. He could only hope to find Zuo Yi soon. 0

Su Jin'er and Ruan Hongmei returned to their dormitory and sat on their respective beds lost in thought. Ruan Hongmei felt strange because she didn’t know Zuo Yi before; her understanding of him was almost blank. She had only heard friends talk about what happened here and wasn't clear about their relationship or anything regarding Zuo Yi and Linyuan. 0

Meanwhile, Su Jin'er was struggling with whether she should tell Ruan Hongmei about Zuo Yi and Xiaoyuan. Although Xiaoyuan and Zuo Yi weren’t technically a couple, they did like each other. Moreover, Linyuan had indirectly died because of Zuo Yi. After thinking for a long time, she decided not to say anything. Even though Linyuan was her best friend, this was ultimately Zuo Yi's own matter. As for this suddenly appearing fiancée, she wasn’t sure if she could trust her; she would have to wait until they found Zuo Yi to let him make his own choice. 0

But would Zuo Yi be able to come back? 0

She had no idea in her heart. 0

"You say!" Ruan Hongmei suddenly whispered, "Will Zuo Yi come back?" 0

Su Jin'er stiffened for a moment; she had also been thinking about this question earlier but dared not consider the possible answers. Now Ruan Hongmei had actually asked it. 0

Not hearing Su Jin'er's response, Ruan Hongmei lifted her head, tears streaming down her face. "I know, he must be dead, right?" 0

Su Jin'er gasped; she truly didn't know how to answer. 0

"Actually, my engagement to him was just a verbal agreement from our parents, it doesn't necessarily count. Besides, I can imagine that he might already have someone he likes. However, I still want to see him, to meet this person who shares the same birthday as me!" 0

"We will definitely meet," Su Jin'er said firmly. This was meant for Ruan Hongmei, but it was also for herself. 0

Knock knock— 0

They were startled by the sudden knock on the door, both of them stood up alertly. 0

"Who is it?" 0

As Su Jin'er asked this question, she glanced at the clock; it was already 10:30. 0

"It's me, Feng Qian," came a weak voice from outside the door. 0

What was she doing here so late? 0

Even though she thought this way, she still went to open the door. 0

Feng Qian stood outside in a white nightgown. She looked at Su Jin'er and then handed her a note saying, "Cheng He asked me to give this to you." 0

Without waiting for Su Jin'er to respond, she stuffed a note into Su Jin'er's hand and quickly ran downstairs, leaving Su Jin'er standing at the door in a daze. 0

"What did she come for?" Ruan Hongmei asked as she approached the door. 0

Su Jin'er shook the note in her hand and said, "She came to deliver this." 0

Ruan Hongmei pouted and went back into the dormitory. Su Jin'er closed the door and walked back to her room, sitting on the bed to open the note. 0

Seeing the address on the note, Su Jin'er nearly spat it out. It read: 0

"Baby, if you really want to know the mystery behind the murder that happened at school, then meet me at 8 PM tomorrow night on the third floor of the Old Laboratory Building. Of course, this matter must remain a secret known only to you. If you tell anyone else, I can guarantee that this case will remain an eternal mystery." 0

In smaller print below it was written: "Come alone! The contents of this note must not be seen by anyone else. After reading it, remember to destroy it!" 0

She crumpled the note into a ball and threw it angrily into the trash can. 0

"What's wrong?" Ruan Hongmei asked, already under the covers. 0

"Nothing, I'm just really angry. I didn't expect Cheng He to actually kill Qiangzi." 0

"That kind of perverted person is capable of anything! Jin'er, you need to be careful around him! It's not a good thing to have him fixated on you." 0

Su Jin'er nodded; she knew that she had to find evidence that he killed Qiangzi in order to get rid of this lunatic. He had set the meeting for tomorrow night, but she and Chu Feifan were supposed to go to their grandmother's house tomorrow. However, she didn't want to miss this opportunity to learn the truth. Although she knew it would be dangerous to be alone with him— 0

There was no other choice; they could go to their grandmother's house the day after tomorrow instead. 0

After making this decision, Su Jin'er immediately called Chu Feifan to tell him that they wouldn't be going to the countryside tomorrow and would change their plans to the day after. Although Chu Feifan found it strange, he didn't ask any further questions. 0

After hanging up the phone, Su Jin'er let out a heavy sigh. It was dangerous for her to seek out Cheng He alone, but even if she couldn't directly tell anyone, leaving some clues should be possible, right? 0

Thinking of this, Su Jin'er began to look around, hoping that the clues she left behind would help Ruan Hongmei find her and guess where she had gone. 0

After a moment, she wrote the letters CHJSYL in a notebook on the table. 0

Soon, the sound of Ruan Hongmei's steady breathing came from her bed. Su Jin'er glanced outside; the moon was already visible, indicating that tomorrow would be a nice day with no rain. She pulled the curtains and returned to her own bed, lying down. 0

Recently, her mind had been in a state of tension, and her sleep quality had been poor. She was always in a half-asleep, half-awake state, which made her feel unwell during the day. She appeared paler and thinner, and now she didn't dare to turn off the lights when sleeping. The events happening around her flashed before her eyes as soon as she closed them. It felt like she had fallen asleep but always woke up in terror. After waking up, it felt as if she had been keeping her eyes wide open. Thus, she endured one difficult night after another. 0

In the middle of the night, she woke up again, drenched in sweat. She knew she had dreamed again, but she couldn't remember the content of the dream. She got out of bed and walked to the window, opening it. The morning breeze brushed against her face; although it was a bit cold, it brought an indescribable sense of comfort. 0

She exhaled; the wind cleared her mind significantly, and a smile unconsciously appeared at the corners of her mouth. 0

Suddenly, she heard singing. She held her breath and listened quietly for a while; it was Teresa Teng's "Alone at the Western Tower." She frowned slightly—who could be singing at such a late hour? 0

This song was already somewhat melancholic, and now sung by this unknown female voice, it sounded even more sorrowful. The voice seemed to be mixed with weeping; rather than singing, it felt more like lamenting! 0

Su Jin'er was startled by her own thoughts. 0
