Su Jin'er looked at the handsome young man in the frame, completely unable to connect him with the scarred person in front of her. She stared blankly at the photo in her hand; the clothes on the boy were exactly the same as those in the photo they had seen in the villa. But what about his face? Could it be the same? 0

Her hands trembled. What was going on? Who was Xiaomei? Was everything that had happened because of Xiaomei's death? Was Professor Zhang trying to tell her that it was all the work of Xiaomei's ghost? She didn't believe it; she had never believed in demons. 0

"I knew you wouldn't believe me. You could go find Xu Lingling. She might tell you everything," Professor Zhang said with a sinister smile. 0

"What does this have to do with Xu Lingling?" 0

"Haha! Don't you think her change is strange?" 0

Su Jin'er recalled how Xu Lingling had looked that day; she had indeed found it odd. However, she thought it was just because Chu Feifan hadn't chosen her that she had changed. Could she really be related to this case? 0

"Professor Zhang, there have been too many incidents at school recently. I don't know if what you said about Xiaomei is true, but I will find out. However, can you tell me what happened to your face?" 0

Professor Zhang was taken aback; he hadn't expected Su Jin'er to be so direct. Still, he smiled and said, "I will never forget that day." 0

It turned out that Professor Zhang was also a student at this school. He graduated at 24 and stayed on as a counselor due to his excellent grades. He was an ambitious student who, despite working, never forgot to continue learning. Within a few years, he became the youngest professor at the school. Every field has its competition, and because of his youth and good looks, he faced ridicule from many teachers. But he didn't care; he earned his honors through hard work and focused on his job despite others' mockery. However, life is full of disappointments. His success led to jealousy from others, and eventually, several teachers around his age set a trap for him. He fell into it and lost not only his achievements but also his face. As for what that trap was, he did not say. After sharing this, he seemed to lose all his strength, leaning weakly against the wall like a puppet without a master, devoid of spirit. 0

Su Jin'er knew she couldn't just take his word for it. While human nature can be frightening, could jealousy really cause someone to lose their true self? She had never truly encountered it, so she couldn't be sure if they were only acting out of jealousy or if these events were even real. 0

"Hmph!" Professor Zhang scoffed coldly. "I knew you wouldn't believe me. The police officer who came earlier asked me questions, but I didn't say anything because I knew they wouldn't believe me either." 0

Su Jin'er could clearly hear the helplessness in his tone, but she still didn't know whether to trust him. Just as Captain Xing had said, one shouldn't believe someone simply because they seemed pitiful; those who are pitiful often have their own faults. Pity can cloud judgment—just like people often say that a woman's intelligence equals zero when she's in love. She had never believed that before, but Linyuan's death had firmly rung an alarm bell for her. 0

"I'm not saying I don't believe you; it's just that there's no solid evidence to prove what you're saying is true." 0

"You are very clever. The reason I played the flute to lure you here is that I know you won't easily trust someone. Most importantly, you are very persistent; once you set your mind on something, you won't give up easily. So I hope you can help me find evidence against those who framed me." 0

"Why don't you look for it yourself?" 0

"How do you think I haven't looked?" he suddenly exclaimed, then seemed to realize the gravity of his words. He cleared his throat softly and said, "It's not that I haven't tried; it's just that in my current state, I can't go out and meet anyone. Moreover, those people not only took my things but also framed me. I can't find any solid evidence to prove their guilt." 0

"But..." Su Jin'er hesitated. She didn't understand how this related to the murder case at school. Although she wanted to help him find evidence, she really didn't want to get herself into another mess; she was already struggling to protect herself. 0

"Professor Zhang, although I want to help you, you know that I'm already overwhelmed with the case at school, so..." 0

She truly felt reluctant to refuse a pitiful person. 0

"I understand, but what I want to tell you is..." He smiled mysteriously and slowly leaned his terrifying face closer to Su Jin'er, reducing the distance between them to just a few centimeters. Su Jin'er instinctively recoiled. 0

"The death of Xu Mengguang is actually because of me." 0

"What?" She couldn't believe it! Li Yiqian had already told her everything about Xu Mengguang's death; it was just an accident. 0

"You don't believe me! Hmph! Not believing is normal because there is a bigger conspiracy behind this matter. What this conspiracy is, neither you nor I know. However, it truly exists. Your so-called friends and those who were locked up and suddenly died are merely discarded pawns. What they said was true but has been altered into a distorted fact." 0

Professor Zhang's words left Su Jin'er even more confused. What on earth was going on? Why were there so many changes? Why had what was once considered fact been completely overturned? The clues she thought she had found now seemed utterly useless. 0

A conspiracy! 0

What is this huge conspiracy, and what terrifying monsters are hidden within Yijiang Medical College? 0

She felt like she was about to collapse. At that moment, she suddenly hoped that everything was just because of Xiaomei's death, that Xiaomei harbored resentment and had returned for revenge. 0

"What does any of this have to do with Xiaomei? Why are you telling me about her? What are you trying to cover up?" She suddenly began to doubt the mysterious and terrifying person in front of her. 0

"Xiaomei's death is merely the catalyst for everything that has happened. If you truly want to uncover the truth, then start by investigating Xiaomei's death!" Professor Zhang smiled and then said, "This is indeed a massive undertaking, as Xiaomei's death occurred over seventy years ago." 0

After saying this, Professor Zhang burst into laughter, his laughter sending chills down Su Jin'er's spine. 0

She stumbled out of Professor Zhang's dormitory, dazed as she exited the building, ignoring the dormitory manager's calls behind her. The mysteries were piling up; she had originally thought Professor Zhang could provide her with useful clues, but unexpectedly, his words left her even more confused. All the clues and previously established facts were merely a smokescreen created by the Killer to cover up their crimes. They had been led around by the nose by this Killer; how clever could this Killer be! 0

Unknowingly, she walked to the Pavilion, where Captain Xing was still sitting deep in thought. Seeing Su Jin'er approach in a daze, he asked in surprise, "Jin'er, what's wrong?" 0

She looked up and saw Captain Xing's concerned expression, and her eyes suddenly turned red. "Captain Xing, our efforts have been in vain; everything is a trap set by the Killer. We've been going in circles all along." 0

Captain Xing asked in confusion, "What do you mean?" 0

"Professor Zhang told me about some events that happened at the school, including why his face looks the way it does now. However, there are many things I just can't understand." 0

They called Chu Feifan and Zuo Yi over as well. For a while, Su Jin'er recounted everything Professor Zhang had said, including her suspicions about Xu Lingling. 0

"How could we possibly investigate something that happened over seventy years ago? We've already checked the archives; the records only go back fifty years at most," Chu Feifan frowned. Seventy years ago was during the early days of the school's establishment. Moreover, Xiaomei's death occurred just a year after the school was founded. How could the school have developed to this point after such an event? 0

"No, the school must have kept records from its founding; we just haven't found them yet. Now that Wen Shishi's death has become common knowledge among everyone at the school, and since Feifan is the Student Council Chairman, I believe the school will share some relevant information with you. So, what we need to do now is wait," Zuo Yi calmly analyzed. 0

Captain Xing praised Zuo Yi with a glance and then patted Chu Feifan on the shoulder, saying, "It's up to you to look into the records." 0

Chu Feifan nodded. He knew that this task seemed simple but was actually the most crucial part of the entire case, so he had to search carefully and diligently. 0

"How about this? You three stay at the school to find the information while I head back to the police station to check on those corpses. I'll contact you once I have any updates." 0

They nodded in agreement. This case involved too many people, and there were too many deaths. As Professor Zhang said, there must be a significant conspiracy behind it all, and whoever orchestrated this conspiracy would likely continue killing. Therefore, they needed to find the Killer as soon as possible. 0

After sending off Captain Xing, they headed to a nearby restaurant. The three ordered a few small dishes but none of them picked up their chopsticks. Each of them felt heavy-hearted; even though they hadn't eaten in a long time, they didn't feel hungry. 0

"Everyone should eat something! We haven't had a proper meal or rest in ages," Chu Feifan said as he placed a piece of egg into Su Jin'er's bowl. 0

Su Jin'er thanked him and then put the egg into her mouth. 0
