Linyuan tightly grasped the fabric of the shirt in her hands. She knew Zuo Yi valued loyalty and that he would sacrifice his life to save Chu Feifan, but… 0

Chu Feifan, hearing that Zuo Yi was doing this for him, hurriedly ran forward. He could not let anyone be put in danger because of him; he absolutely would not allow such a thing to happen. 0

A few people saw Chu Feifan running away like a madman, and they chased after him. No matter what, no one else could get hurt. 0

When they arrived at the village, the sky was already dim. There was not a single shadow in the village; the wind rustled the leaves, creating an empty sound. The houses, already scattered about, appeared even more desolate due to the absence of people. 0

Su Jin'er looked at the empty village and suddenly felt that the whole world had turned gray—the gray sky, gray clouds, gray wind, gray houses, and gray earth; even her mood had turned gray. 0

"Where did Chu Feifan go?" Linyuan anxiously looked around. 0

Su Jin'er brushed aside her hair blown into her eyes by the wind and said, "I think he must have gone to the house where Alang died." 0

Captain Xing nodded. Just earlier, Chu Feifan mentioned that he woke up in that house. But where would Zuo Yi be? 0

When they reached that house, they found Chu Feifan searching for something inside. He was carefully checking every corner. Hearing their footsteps, he looked up and said, "You all help look too; there must be a secret passage here." 0

A secret passage? 0

Su Jin'er suddenly remembered the day she fell into a secret passage while trying to rescue Linyuan. She had almost forgotten about it. She looked at Captain Xing and said, "Captain Xing, did you find the secret passage I fell into when I went to look for Xiaoyuan?" 0

To her surprise, Captain Xing shook his head. "We searched the entire room but didn't find the secret passage you mentioned. You said it was near the entrance of the room; we looked there and even dug a hole in the ground but found nothing. Moreover, we have already dismantled that house and discovered quite a bit of bloodstains inside; we just haven't determined whose blood it is yet." 0

Su Jin'er fell silent. She watched Chu Feifan and Linyuan's backs with a wave of sadness; she understood their feelings—how could she not feel the same? 0

But… 0

A sudden feeling of being watched arose within her, and she turned to look behind her. 0

There was nothing! 0

However, the feeling of being watched was so real that it couldn't possibly be her imagination. 0

She turned to look at Captain Xing beside her, who seemed to share the same feeling and was vigilantly observing their surroundings. 0

"Do you feel it too?" he asked quietly upon meeting Su Jin'er's gaze. 0

"Yes, when we were here before, Chu Bufan used the cameras to monitor us." 0

"The cameras shouldn't make us feel this way; those eyes watching us earlier seemed quite malicious." Captain Xing remained alert, paying close attention to their surroundings. 0

Su Jin'er was surprised by Captain Xing's description of the gaze as malicious and looked at him in astonishment. 0

"What are you all standing around for? Hurry up and search! Every minute we delay puts Zuo Yi in more danger," Chu Feifan shouted. 0

Su Jin'er frowned; Chu Feifan seemed overly tense. However, she could understand—after all, Wen Shishi had just died, and Zuo Yi was in danger. Anyone would be anxious in this situation! 0

Thinking about this, Su Jin'er began searching with them. Could there really be a secret passage in this room? She stood at the corner by the entrance and noticed a small black object about the size of her thumb, as if it had been intentionally marked with burnt charcoal. She touched it, and then heard a series of "clattering" sounds. Suddenly, the entire floor beneath them began to move. The group hurriedly retreated outside, staring in disbelief at this unexpected scene. After shaking for a while, the floor did not reveal a secret passage as they had imagined. 0

They looked at the now-still floor in confusion; nothing had changed in the room except for the brief tremor. The group exchanged glances. 0

Just as they were about to step back into the room, another round of "clattering" sounds erupted. Linyuan covered his head and shouted to the heavens, thinking it was happening again. However, this time it was only one corner—the floor slowly rose in the far left corner of the room, revealing a dark hole. 0

Chu Feifan approached the hole and peered inside, saying, "I'll go down first. Wait until it's safe before you follow." 0

"Let me go down instead! After all, I'm a police officer; I may not be exceptional, but I have some skills," Captain Xing replied. 0

"No way! What if this is a ploy to lure us away? If someone ambushes from above, you could protect them! If it's safe up top and dangerous below, I might still be able to escape myself." 0

After considering this, Captain Xing found his reasoning sound and said nothing further. Chu Feifan glanced at Su Jin'er, then descended into the hole. It seemed there was a staircase below; they could clearly hear Chu Feifan descending. The wooden stairs creaked loudly in the empty room, making an especially jarring sound. 0

Su Jin'er listened nervously to every footstep of Chu Feifan as he had just returned to her side. He could not afford to have anything happen to him. Just as Su Jin'er’s thoughts began to drift, a dull sound echoed from the secret passage. 0

“Chu Feifan, are you okay?” Su Jin'er anxiously looked down but saw nothing. 0

No one answered from the passage. 0

Su Jin'er’s heart tightened. After a long silence without a response, Captain Xing asked again, but there was still no sound below. 0

“We should go down and check.” 0

Captain Xing was the first to step onto the stairs, the weak light from his flashlight shining down, but it revealed nothing at the bottom. 0

Su Jin'er let Linyuan walk in front of her while she carefully followed behind. Before descending, she glanced outside once more, ensuring that no one was around before entering the opening. If someone were to come suddenly from outside, closing the entrance would trap them below, which would be problematic. 0

They slowly descended to the bottom without any unexpected incidents. The secret passage was about two or three meters away from the surface; it wasn’t very deep, yet they still did not see Chu Feifan’s figure. 0

“He wouldn’t have been knocked out right after coming down, would he?” Su Jin'er speculated, as the earlier sound indeed resembled someone being struck. 0

“I think so,” Linyuan nodded in agreement. 0

Captain Xing shone his flashlight around and discovered that this was a rectangular room, similar to the one above. It was empty inside with walls all around and no ventilation; the air was thick and murky. Staying inside for too long could lead to suffocation. 0

“There must be other passages here; otherwise, where could Chu Feifan have gone?” 0

As soon as Su Jin'er finished speaking, they heard a voice say, “I’m here!” 0

They turned around and saw Chu Feifan standing at the bottom of the stairs, covered in dust. 0

Su Jin'er frowned in disbelief and said, “How did you end up there?” 0

"There was a mouse down there, and I accidentally stepped on it and fell." Chu Feifan said apologetically. Falling in front of the girl he liked, especially in such a way, made him feel embarrassed. 0

Everyone suppressed their urge to laugh and sighed in relief. 0

"It seems like this is just one room, and there’s nothing else here. Let's go upstairs! The air here is quite murky," Chu Feifan said with an awkward smile. 0

Su Jin'er looked at the empty room and felt that it wasn't that simple. There must be a reason why people would dig such a hidden underground chamber. But what could that reason be? 0

Seeing Su Jin'er hesitating, Chu Feifan suddenly thought of something. He exclaimed, "I'm so stupid! How did I not think of this! I know where these people have gone!" 0

Hearing Chu Feifan's words, they began to feel surprised. After thinking for a moment, they understood that the people here couldn't have all moved away; they must have another place to go. If there was a secret chamber in this house, perhaps there were others in different houses as well. 0

Realizing this, they immediately prepared to leave. However, a cold voice suddenly came from above: "Now you know, it's too late. You all wait here to die!" 0

After the voice spoke, the floor above slammed shut with a bang. By the time they reached the staircase, the footsteps above had gradually faded away until they could no longer hear them. 0

"Damn it, it's all my fault! Why did I have to fall!" Chu Feifan said angrily, feeling that he really didn't seem like a man. 0
