"Run!" Chu Feifan pulled Su Jin'er’s hand and ran toward the door.
The monster behind them suddenly quickened its pace, glaring fiercely at the fleeing group, more blood oozing from its mouth.
"How disgusting!" Linyuan also rushed out the door.
The fog outside had thickened, and they stood facing each other, barely able to see one another's faces, panic-stricken as they looked at the data room on the second floor of the student council.
"How can there be such a terrifying thing? Is it a ghost?" Linyuan said quietly, patting her chest.
"It's already eleven o'clock. Let's hurry and leave! By the way, we can come back to look at that data next time!" Chu Feifan said.
"Uh! Sorry, I took the data with me," Su Jin'er said, shaking the documents in her hand.
"That shouldn't be taken out," Zuo Yi said somewhat helplessly.
"It's fine; just keep it! But only the four of us know about it." After a pause, he added, "Make sure to return it to me after you’re done!"
Su Jin'er nodded.
When they returned to their dormitory, it was already fifteen minutes past eleven, but the dorm was still eerily quiet.
"It seems Xiaonan and Qian Qian haven't come back yet!" Su Jin'er said as she unlocked the door. As soon as the door opened, a chill breeze rushed in, making them shiver involuntarily.
"Did someone leave the window open? Why is it so cold?" Linyuan casually turned on the light.
The dormitory was empty; Du Xiaonan and Li Yiqian had indeed not returned!
"Where could they have gone? Why haven't they returned yet?" Su Jin'er said with confusion.
"Exactly! It's so strange! Could something have happened to them?"
Su Jin'er shook her head; everything felt so odd! She still couldn't make sense of it all, and her mind was a chaotic mess.
"Let's wait until tomorrow. If they haven't come back by then, we'll have to report it to the police."
"How could that kind of thing appear in the data room? I can still smell the strong scent of blood!" Linyuan climbed onto her bed using both hands and feet.
Blood?
Su Jin'er looked down at her feet.
Nothing? How could there be nothing? Was what just happened really just their hallucination? But it was so strange; why did everyone experience the same hallucination every time?
"Xiaoyuan, why is there no blood on our feet?"
Linyuan, hearing her words, looked at her own feet and said, "Right! That room was filled with blood. Why did we come out without any on us?"
"Could it really have been our hallucination? But that monster felt so real! And that disgusting smell of blood."
"Ever since we came to this school, so many strange things have happened! I really don't know if we brought the disaster or if this school has always been like this."
Su Jin'er remained silent; she didn't know what was going on either. It was just that everything felt too strange. Was someone manipulating things behind the scenes, or were there really supernatural events occurring?
The next morning, Du Xiaonan returned, but Li Yiqian did not come back.
When Du Xiaonan returned, she appeared very exhausted and terrified. Her face was pale and devoid of color, and her whole body was trembling as she curled up under the blanket.
"Xiaonan, what on earth happened? Where is Qian Qian?" Su Jin'er asked, standing beside the upper bunk where Du Xiaonan was.
"I don't know. When I woke up this morning, I couldn't find her."
"Woke up this morning? Where were you staying?" Su Jin'er asked anxiously.
"We had just arrived at that place when someone knocked us out. When we woke up again, we were in a Small Dark Room. There was no sound at all, and there wasn't a single window in that room; it was pitch black and we couldn't see anything." Her voice was still trembling.
"Was Qian Qian next to you at that time?" Su Jin'er asked.
"Yes, although we didn't speak, I could feel her breathing nearby."
"And then what happened?"
"Then? I wanted to talk to Qian Qian, but before I could say anything, I smelled a strange fragrance, and then I lost consciousness. When I woke up again, I was in the woods outside our school."
"Did Qian Qian not say anything to you?"
"No, she sat quietly beside me. It felt like she was very far away, and the air around us was so cold. But it felt like that cold was coming from my heart; it was terrifying."
Although it was late autumn now, the weather wasn't cold enough to make one feel frozen. Moreover, last night in the data room, that kind of cold seemed to emanate from within a person.
"You should sleep for a while! If something comes up, we can talk about it after you rest. Your face looks terrifyingly pale," Su Jin'er said thoughtfully as she returned to her bed.
"Jin'er, what do you think?"
"I don't know, everything is so strange! However, I feel like the person behind this must have a huge conspiracy."
"A conspiracy? Do you still think this is man-made?"
"Yes."
"But how do you explain what happened last night, and what about Li Ran's death? If it was man-made, why would they call for help and then commit suicide?"
"Yes, these things are very strange, but is there really such a thing as a Demon? I still can't believe it!" After a pause, she continued, "Forget it, let's find Qian Qian first! I hope nothing has happened to her."
"How about we take a look at those documents first?"
"Let's look at the documents later! Right now, we should go check out the forest that Xiaonan mentioned."
"Isn't there a danger there?"
"If there's danger, there's nothing we can do! Can we just stand by and watch Qian Qian get into trouble?"
Linyuan shook her head; those people she didn't know could die for all she cared, but she couldn't ignore the life or death of Li Yiqian.
"Let's go! We need to check it out."
"Should we call those two?"
"Which two?"
"Oh come on! It's obvious what Young Master Chu is thinking; how could you not know?" Linyuan said with a grin, nudging Su Jin'er's arm with her elbow.
"I don't know what he's thinking, and I don't have time to care about it now. It's enough for the two of us to go," Su Jin'er said, her face flushed.
She wasn't unaware of Chu Feifan's feelings; every time their eyes met, she could sense the heat in his gaze. But at that moment, she had no mind to dwell on such matters.
As she spoke, they had already descended the stairs. The forest was not far from their school. Although it was a remote area, there was a well-known school nearby, so many people came here to do business. Since it was the weekend, many students were out and about.
Su Jin'er and Linyuan exited the school gates. The forest was to the right of the school, closer to the foot of the mountain. Du Xiaonan hadn't specified her exact location when she woke up, so finding clues felt like searching for a needle in a haystack. Su Jin'er knew there wouldn't be any significant discoveries, yet she still wanted to take a look; perhaps there would be unexpected gains. She had been puzzled about one thing: why did those people abduct Li Yiqian but leave Du Xiaonan behind, even returning her to this forest?
"This place is covered in fallen leaves; how could we possibly find any clues?" Linyuan muttered.
"Honestly, I know we might be wasting our time, but I have this strong feeling that something will happen here, and I think Du Xiaonan is hiding something from us."
"Hiding? No way! She was so scared; why would she hide anything from us?"
"I don't know; maybe she has her reasons. Wait a minute, there's someone ahead." Su Jin'er pulled Linyuan back as she was about to walk forward.
Hearing voices, they quickly hid behind a nearby tree.
"It's Chu Feifan and Xu Lingling," Linyuan whispered from behind Su Jin'er.
"Let's go! It's not nice to eavesdrop," Su Jin'er said.
"But they're talking about you!"
At Linyuan's words, Su Jin'er froze for a moment before a voice reached her ears.
"You like Su Jin'er, don't you?" Xu Lingling said loudly.
"What's it to you? What if I do? You have no right to question me," Chu Feifan said, turning his back to her.
Xu Lingling suddenly hugged him and said, "I don't care whether you love her or not; I only know that I love you."
Chu Feifan pushed her away and replied, "Feelings can't be forced. You're right; I do like Su Jin'er, but that has nothing to do with you!"
"So you really like her! What does she have that's so great? Are you enchanted by her charms? How can you do this?" she shouted.
"Shut up! I won't allow you to speak about her. And as for my matters, you'd better not interfere; don't make me dislike you." His voice was low, but his tone was firm.
"It seems he really likes you!" Linyuan whispered.
"Let's go! We have things to do!"
She didn't expect to hear him say he liked her in such a situation. She wasn't sure if she should be happy; there was always a strange feeling in her heart!
Just as they were about to turn and leave, something on the ground caught her attention.
"What is that?" Su Jin'er walked over and picked up the object from the ground.
"Hey! Isn't this the hairpin that Li Yiqian has always used?"
"You recognize this?"
"Yes, I saw her take it out of the drawer when they were leaving yesterday morning, and I even said it was beautiful!"
"Then how did it end up here? Also, Xiaonan didn't tell us where they went to investigate."
"That's right! I wouldn't have thought of it if you hadn't mentioned it!"
"Are you sure this hairpin belongs to Li Yiqian?"
"Yes!" Linyuan nodded heavily.
"Then how did her hairpin end up here? Didn't Xiaonan say they were locked in a dark room? Why is her hairpin here?"
The more I thought about it, the stranger it seemed. Could it be that Du Xiaonan was lying?
