Such an event was something they had never anticipated. The students merely watched as the police lifted the body into the vehicle and drove away, their faces displaying indifference. They had only just arrived and had not yet formed deep friendships with one another; no one realized that this was just the beginning of all their fears.
After the police took the body away, the students began to chatter among themselves. At that moment, a sharp voice suddenly exclaimed, "Is it the ghost of Xiaoqing returning? Is she back to claim lives again?"
Then, in a flash, the person ran off without a trace.
The ghost of Xiaoqing again?
"What do you know about this?" Su Jin'er glanced in the direction where the person had fled and asked Chu Feifan.
Chu Feifan shook his head and said, "This has nothing to do with me. I don't want to get involved, so I know nothing."
Su Jin'er smiled; she felt the same way. However, that unsettling premonition seemed to tell her that she could not remain uninvolved in this matter!
Just as Su Jin'er was about to turn and leave, Chu Feifan suddenly grabbed her arm. She turned around to look at the tall boy, over six feet tall, smiling as he asked, "What's up?"
Chu Feifan released her arm and said, "Even though I know nothing about this incident, I have a bad feeling about it. I don't want you to get involved."
Su Jin'er met his serious gaze, and something in her stirred. She averted her eyes and replied, "I won't get involved."
Then she walked away towards the dormitory without looking back.
The events of that morning quickly spread throughout the campus like wildfire. No matter where one went, whispers among students could be heard as they lowered their heads in discussion.
Few current students knew about what happened five years ago; only those in the fourth and fifth grades were somewhat familiar with it. However, they seemed quite terrified of the incident, even if they had not experienced it firsthand.
After this event occurred, everyone continued with their classes as usual. The college remained lively and bustling; there was no significant change due to what had happened. Thus, two days passed quietly. Yet, such an excessive calmness did not seem like a good sign.
“Linyuan, come here!” Su Jin'er suddenly called Linyuan over to her bed in a mysterious manner.
“What’s wrong, Jin'er?”
“It seems like I lost my clothes,” Su Jin'er said, looking a bit troubled.
“No way! Things can get lost in our dorm? What did you lose?”
“It’s—it's my underwear, the pink set,” Su Jin'er said shyly.
“What? Underwear?” Linyuan exclaimed, her mouth agape in surprise.
Only the four of them and Aunt Zhang, who managed the dormitory, had the keys. Who would steal her underwear?
“Shh—keep your voice down; this isn’t exactly a good thing. Why are you shouting?” Su Jin'er covered Linyuan's mouth.
Linyuan nodded, and Su Jin'er released her hand from Linyuan's mouth.
“Who could it be? Could it be a pervert who steals underwear?”
“Let’s hope so! But why would he only take mine and not yours?” Su Jin'er said, sitting on the bed with a frown.
Linyuan thought for a moment and found it reasonable, then added, “Could it be someone at school who has a crush on you?”
“I don’t think that’s likely. Even if they did, how would they know where my clothes were? And they only took one set!”
“So you mean it must be someone we know?”
"I was just expressing my guess, but the fact is that my clothes are missing. How could there be such a person?" Suddenly, she recalled that night, the conversation between Li Yiqian and a man.
"Did you bring what I asked you to bring?"
"I brought it."
What was it?
What could that man have made Li Yiqian bring him?
Could it be—
No, it couldn't be. She must be overthinking.
"Jin'er, what are you thinking about?"
"Oh! It's nothing, if it's lost, then it's lost!" Although she said that, she already had a suspect in mind and hoped this matter had nothing to do with her!
At noon, Su Jin'er was still pondering how to ask her when unexpectedly, she came to find her instead.
"You noticed, didn't you?" Li Yiqian suddenly asked on the balcony of the dormitory.
Su Jin'er looked at her in surprise and said, "Did you really do it?"
"Yes."
Su Jin'er looked at her in disbelief and asked, "Why?"
"Because I want revenge. Only by doing this can I find out who killed my sister," Li Yiqian suddenly said, crying.
"Revenge? Your sister? What happened?"
"My sister is the one they call Xiaoqing. Her name is Li Yiqing, and she is my biological sister." She said this very calmly.
"The body you mentioned that night refers to my sister's body."
"Yes, it's been five years, and we still haven't found my sister's body. We don't even know how she died, and what about the police? Ha! The police are just a bunch of useless people; they can't even find the killer of my sister. They told us she committed suicide due to academic pressure. Who would believe that? They simply don't want to investigate; they're just a bunch of good-for-nothings who can't even find my sister's body."
At this point, Li Yiqian was already in tears. She wiped her tears and continued, "My sister was so kind and cheerful; how could she possibly commit suicide? But she died shortly after coming to this school, and her death was so unclear. Others believe she committed suicide, but I don't believe it, and neither do my parents. After my sister died, my mother also passed away from grief, and my father died last year. From the day my sister died, I vowed to come to this school and find out the cause of her death."
"So you took my underwear to exchange information with that man."
"Yes, you probably don't know who that man is, right? Ha, you definitely won't believe it when I tell you."
"Who is it?"
"It's Zhang Junsheng, who was with us during Military Training."
"How could it be him?"
"Hmph! He liked you during our Military Training but was too scared to tell you. He's such a coward! And he believes that my sister's ghost really exists!"
Zhang Junsheng... Su Jin'er recalled that day on the mountain when Zhang Junsheng looked terrified. At that moment, she thought he was strange; why would a big boy react so strongly? Now it seems he knows quite a bit!
"Su Jin'er, I've never begged anyone before, but today I'm asking you not to pursue this matter any further. Zhang Junsheng still has value for me, but I promise this will be the only time, okay?"
Although Su Jin'er felt disgusted at the thought of her underwear being in the hands of that perverted man, she couldn't bring herself to be harsh when she saw Li Yiqian's sad and pained face.
"Alright, I agree, but you have to promise me one thing."
"As long as it can restore my sister's innocence, I'll do anything," Li Yiqian said, showing a look of desperation.
Su Jin'er smiled and said, "I'm not asking you to climb a mountain or go through fire. I just want to tell you that if we really find the Killer, I hope you can stay calm and not risk your life."
Li Yiqian looked at Su Jin'er gratefully and said, "I will!"
"Hey! What are you two talking about? So mysterious?" Linyuan suddenly appeared on the balcony, smiling as she asked.
Su Jin'er glanced at Li Yiqian and then said to Linyuan, "We're discussing the matter of my lost clothes."
"Did you find them? Who took them? It wouldn't be Qian Qian, would it?" She rolled her eyes and pointed at Li Yiqian. "You don't have a crush on our Jin'er, do you?"
Linyuan chuckled.
"Please, don't say that! You're right; the underwear was indeed taken by her, but there’s a reason," Su Jin'er said, swatting away her pointing finger.
"What reason?" Seeing their serious expressions, Linyuan stopped joking around.
Then, Su Jin'er recounted everything Li Yiqian had told her to Linyuan.
"So what you're saying is that the Killer who murdered Xiaoqing is still in this school, and it was Xu Mengguang who died a few days ago. So are you implying that Xu Mengguang was killed by you?" Linyuan said while stroking her chin.
Su Jin'er looked at her helplessly and said, "What are you guessing randomly? Did we ever say that Xu Mengguang's death was related to Xiaoqing? Besides, Xiaoqing was in this school five years ago when Xu Mengguang was still a second-year student. How could he have come here to kill Xiaoqing? Is your brain made of tofu?"
She then lightly tapped her hand on her head.
Linyuan looked at Li Yiqian's sad face and said, "I'm sorry! I was just guessing randomly, please don't be angry!"
"It's fine." Li Yiqian shook her head and said, "I feel like things are not that simple, and I have a strong feeling that these two events are related."
Hearing Li Yiqian's words, Su Jin'er was startled. Although she had doubts about Xu Mengguang's death, it didn't really concern her, and she wasn't a police officer, so she hadn't thought much of it. Back in high school, she had heard that the mortality rate among college students was high, but she never expected someone would die within two weeks of her arrival at this school. Now hearing Li Yiqian say this made her feel like there was some secret within the school.
"Jin'er, Linyuan, I have no family left in this world. To clear my sister's name, I would even give my life. But I know that finding out what happened five years ago in such a large school is not easy, so I want to ask for your help."
They looked at the tears streaming from Li Yiqian's eyes and were momentarily unsure of what to do. They exchanged glances and then said, "Although we don't know if we can help in any way, we will do our best."
"Thank you!" Li Yiqian tightly grasped their hands, almost kneeling before them.
"I'm sorry!"
Suddenly a voice spoke up.
