"Do you know who did it?" Abel asked. She had been investigating for a long time but had no leads. She suspected that whoever demolished Chen Haoxuan's place had powerful backing, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to evade detection.
"You Americans can't find out anything; how could we? But seriously, those people are clever. They took advantage of Chen Haoxuan not being home to steal one of his computers and dismantled that mysterious formation. I think they wanted to study Chen Haoxuan's formation," Meihiko said.
"Had I known someone would take action, I should have dismantled the formation the next day and uncovered its secrets," Abel said. Now that she had reconciled with Meihiko, it was thanks to their superior, who encouraged them to collaborate in order to gain greater benefits from Chen Haoxuan. This led them back to New City University.
They believed that Chen Haoxuan's decision not to reveal Abel and Meihiko's identities indicated that he did not want to disclose their identities to others. Perhaps he was afraid of provoking the United States and Island Nation, which is why they felt safe returning.
"I wonder if Chen Haoxuan will act without hesitation when he sees us again," Abel expressed her concern.
"I think we should avoid showing ourselves until we find out who demolished Chen Haoxuan's residence. Once we have a lead, if Chen Haoxuan comes after us, we can present him with the information we've gathered. He shouldn't make things difficult for us, especially since our backing isn't something anyone dares to provoke," Meihiko suggested.
"Where should we start looking?" Abel asked.
"Weren't there two excavators that tore off the roof of Chen Haoxuan's house? Let's investigate those excavators first," Meihiko proposed.
On Sunday, although it was a holiday, Chen Haoxuan still visited New City University to ask Yang Lin if he had seen Abel and Meihiko. Upon learning that they had not yet arrived at the university, Chen Haoxuan grew more suspicious that they were involved in the demolition of his residence. The day he went to the Capital of Hua Country, Abel and Meihiko returned, and that very night his place was torn down. After he returned, they had vanished—who else could it be?
In order to find Abel and Meihiko as quickly as possible, Chen Haoxuan sought out Li De and asked him to send someone to help locate them. Initially, Chen Haoxuan wanted to enlist both legal and illegal means to find them, but Ye Hongfei refused to honor his earlier promise, claiming that Chen Haoxuan had taken away his beloved Shen Ruyan. He sought help from Yeh Hsiao-Nuo; she was willing but demanded that Chen Haoxuan sleep with her in exchange. Chen Haoxuan was not one to trade his body for favors, so he declined her offer.
Despite being rejected by Chen Haoxuan, Yeh Hsiao-Nuo still assisted him in searching for Abel and Meihiko.
The police were showing photos on the street asking people if they had seen them, while thugs were doing the same in various entertainment venues. Abel and Meihiko had no idea how many times they had been questioned; fortunately, their makeup skills helped them avoid detection.
In a narrow alleyway, Meihiko said to Abel, "What should we do? Chen Haoxuan is mobilizing both legal and illegal forces against us."
"It seems we should go find Chen Haoxuan," Abel replied.
"We haven't found any clues yet. If we go to find Chen Haoxuan now, he will think we are the ones who demolished his house," Meihiko said.
"But hiding and investigating like this isn't a solution! I think we should just go directly to Chen Haoxuan. Maybe we can persuade him to cooperate with us and help him find out who destroyed his residence, with the condition that he gives us his technology," Abel suggested with a smile.
"Will he agree?" Meihiko questioned.
"How would we know unless we try? There's no time to waste; let's go find him now," Abel replied.
"His place is gone. Where are we supposed to look for him?" Meihiko shot Abel a glare.
Abel took out his phone and dialed Chen Haoxuan's number. The call connected quickly. "Hello, is this Chen Haoxuan?"
"Abel, why did you demolish my residence? Are you trying to intimidate me? Let me tell you, Abel, if you don't give me a satisfactory answer, you'll regret it for the rest of your life. Trust me, I can easily capture all of you, and I have ways to make you disappear from this planet," Chen Haoxuan said.
"Chen Haoxuan, calm down! Please listen to me patiently. The people who destroyed your house are not us; they are from another group, and we are currently investigating who they are," Abel explained.
"Only a few people know about my formation. Besides the two of you, who else knows how powerful this formation is? I captured you both, causing you to turn against each other. You harbor resentment towards me and took the opportunity to demolish my residence while I wasn't home..."
