"I'm not going."
"I think you're afraid your skills can't match up to Chen Haoxuan's. Afraid of losing face?" Li Mingmei intentionally provoked Kong Manni, wanting to see just how formidable Chen Haoxuan's website truly was. If even Kong Manni couldn't break in, it would prove that his website system was advanced.
"I know you're trying to provoke me. How about this! If I successfully hack into Chen Haoxuan's website, you'll cover all my meals this month," Kong Manni said with a cute smile.
"Deal." Li Mingmei readily agreed. After that, she moved a stool next to Kong Manni and sat down seriously to watch how she planned to hack into Chen Haoxuan's website.
Kong Manni was very proud. Instead of infiltrating the small module designated by Chen Haoxuan, she directly hacked into Chen Haoxuan's website system. After just a few minutes, Kong Manni frowned; she couldn't find any vulnerabilities in Chen Haoxuan's website.
Everyone in the Computer Science Department at New City University was desperately trying to hack into Chen Haoxuan's website. Even the teachers in the Computer Science Department had their students attempt to breach Chen Haoxuan's site, treating it as a mock exam.
As for the mastermind, Chen Haoxuan, he was actually lying on the lawn asleep. Yang Lin and the others didn't wake him up; instead, they were drinking and chatting nearby. The main topic among the men was women. The three of them kept boasting about how impressive they were in the past, claiming that every girl they encountered would scream upon seeing them. The more they talked, the more exaggerated their stories became, and it was hard to tell if they were just drunk.
Lying on the ground felt cool, and the sunlight was warm on his body—an enjoyable contrast that made Chen Haoxuan sleep soundly.
One hour passed, then two hours, then three hours. Kong Manni still hadn't succeeded in hacking into Chen Haoxuan's website. She sighed, "He's really good. But I think he must have paid someone skilled to write the program for him. Otherwise, how could a sophomore student majoring in Business Administration have such advanced network skills?"
"Little girl, I think you're just comforting yourself and can't accept the fact that you lost to Chen Haoxuan," Li Mingmei joked.
"Maybe I really am trying to comfort myself," Kong Manni replied sadly. She had always been proud of her network skills but felt uncomfortable knowing she had been bested by a younger boy; more than anything, she felt indignant.
"Why don't you try hacking into his designated small module? Maybe you'll manage to get in there," Li Mingmei suggested.
This time, Kong Manni didn't refuse. She placed her hands back on the keyboard and started typing again. The small module designated by Chen Haoxuan wasn't technically challenging, but it still took her nearly half an hour to breach it. Once she got inside, her computer suddenly went black, and then a cartoon character resembling a handsome boy appeared on the screen—somewhat like Chen Haoxuan.
"You have passed the assessment; please meet me on the lawn at the library entrance," said the cartoon character in a voice identical to Chen Haoxuan's. As soon as he finished speaking, Kong Manni's computer returned to normal.
"Wow—little girl, I'm so envious of you! A base salary of RMB plus bonuses, and you get to work with New City University's top Campus Heartthrob! I'm so jealous!" Li Mingmei said admiringly to Kong Manni.
"Why don't you impersonate me?" Kong Manni suggested to Li Mingmei. With her computing talent, she could easily write some software and earn quite a bit of money or use her hacking skills for some less-than-reputable jobs that would pay more than what Chen Haoxuan offered as a salary.
"Little girl, you are too nice to others. I'm going to find Chen Haoxuan now and I'll treat you to dinner when I get back," Li Mingmei said happily. Coming from an ordinary family and lacking the impressive networking skills of Kong Manni, she hoped to secure a high-paying job.
When Li Mingmei reached the lawn in front of the library, she indeed saw Chen Haoxuan, but he was sleeping. She hesitated, wondering whether to wake him up.
Just then, she was spotted by Yang Lin and his friends. Yang Lin put his finger to his mouth and let out a loud whistle. "MM, are you here to see me?" he said with a lewd grin directed at Li Mingmei.
"I—I’m here to find Chen Haoxuan," Li Mingmei replied, crossing her arms protectively over her chest as if afraid Yang Lin might harass her.
