Zhou Kexin would rather sit in Meilin Huang's father's car than in her own father's car. She was upset and wondered if Chen Haoxuan really didn't like her at all, or if it was because she wasn't pretty enough.
"Chen Haoxuan has left, let's go too!" Hua Lingwei said helplessly to Zhou Kexin. She could tell that Chen Haoxuan didn't seem to like Zhou Kexin very much.
It was strange; not long ago, there had been storms and heavy rain, but today there were no strong winds or downpours. If the sun appeared in the sky, it would definitely be a nice day.
On the way back to New City, Zhou Kexin remained gloomy. No matter how Hua Lingwei and the others tried to comfort her, she remained silent. Zhou Xiang and the others understood her situation; they had just witnessed how enthusiastically Zhou Kexin greeted Chen Haoxuan, only for him to respond lightly.
The car Zhou Kexin was in was very quiet, while Chen Haoxuan's car was lively. Meilin Huang chattered non-stop, constantly asking Chen Haoxuan how he saved Zhou Kexin and how he himself got rescued later. After hearing the story, Meilin Huang unexpectedly kissed Chen Haoxuan and said he was a real man.
This left Huang Weicheng, who was driving, both amused and exasperated. If Chen Haoxuan's act of saving someone made him a man, then what did that make him? If he wasn't considered a man, how did he manage to come out?
After returning to New City, Huang Weicheng immediately took Chen Haoxuan to the hospital. After examining him, the doctor concluded that Chen Haoxuan had a severe cold and extreme fatigue, requiring hospitalization. Hospitalization was no big deal, but what surprised Chen Haoxuan was that Zhou Kexin was also admitted and had arranged for him to stay in her Deluxe Ward with her. Was this suggesting something inappropriate or did she have another motive?
Chen Haoxuan wasn't in too serious a condition, so Chen Yina and the others didn't stay long before leaving; after all, they all had things to do. Chen Yina, Meilin Huang, and Hua Lingwei needed to return to school for classes, while Zhou Xiang, Hua Tianyu, and Huang Weicheng needed to go back to work. This left only Chen Haoxuan and Zhou Kexin quietly together in a luxurious hospital room.
Chen Haoxuan lay on the hospital bed while Zhou Kexin rested on the sofa not far away. Suddenly she spoke up: "Chen Haoxuan, do you really hate me?"
Lying on the bed, Chen Haoxuan replied, "No! I never said I hated you; I think you're just overthinking it." He could sense that Zhou Kexin seemed to like him.
"Then why do you ignore me all the time? Today I offered you a ride in my dad's car, but you wouldn't take it. I think you really do hate me," Zhou Kexin said with grievance.
"My dear young lady! I've already said I don't; why do you insist on me saying that I hate you?" Chen Haoxuan replied helplessly.
The two of them continued to chat, exchanging a few words here and there, and before they knew it, night had fallen. The nurse brought a rich nutritional meal for Chen Haoxuan and after dinner, he fell asleep again.
Zhou Kexin's cold was quite severe; her head felt heavy and dizzy, so she returned to her room to sleep as well. Late at night, a storm hit again, accompanied by thunder. Zhou Kexin had been afraid of thunder since she was little; whenever there was thunder, she would either sleep with her mother or run to Hua Lingwei's room. But now she was in the hospital—who could accompany her?
Chen Haoxuan was there, so she decided to go to his room. Zhou Kexin quickly got out of bed and ran towards Chen Haoxuan's room. She opened the door with a loud noise, waking the sleeping Chen Haoxuan. He turned on the bedside lamp and when he saw Zhou Kexin's terrified face, he nervously asked, "What happened?"
Standing in Chen Haoxuan's room, Zhou Kexin awkwardly said, "I—I’m afraid of thunder."
"You’re afraid of thunder? Are you kidding me? If you really are scared, how did you come over here before?" Chen Haoxuan was skeptical.
"When there's thunder, I usually sleep with my mom or Vivi," Zhou Kexin replied pitifully.
"What are you going to do now? Your family isn't here, and you came to my room—are you hoping to sleep with me?" Chen Haoxuan joked.
With a loud crash of thunder outside that sent chills down their spines and made their ears ring, jagged flashes of lightning struck the ground intermittently. The wind whipped up dust and light debris outside, making Zhou Kexin feel even more frightened.
She screamed and threw herself onto Chen Haoxuan, hugging him tightly. Zhou Kexin didn't want to do this, but Chen Haoxuan certainly didn't want it either; he was just an ordinary man being pinned down by a beautiful woman, fearing he might do something inappropriate.
"Hey—get up! If you don’t get up soon, don’t blame me for being mean," Chen Haoxuan threatened Zhou Kexin. To be honest, he didn’t even have the strength to push her away; even if he wanted to be mischievous, he couldn't overpower her unless she allowed it.
Zhou Kexin didn't believe Chen Haoxuan's words. If he were really that kind of person, he wouldn't have refused when she asked him to kiss her that day. With a pitiful expression, she said, "Chen Haoxuan, I'm really scared of thunder. Can I sleep with you tonight? I promise I won't bother you."
"If you keep pressing down on me like this, I swear I’ll either die or be disabled by tomorrow," Chen Haoxuan gasped. Zhou Kexin had a full figure, so her weight was certainly not light; otherwise, he wouldn't be struggling so much under her. Chen Haoxuan vowed that once he recovered physically, he would definitely work out more; it was too embarrassing to be pinned down by a girl and unable to breathe properly.
With a sudden movement, Zhou Kexin's face turned bright red. She had not realized until she heard Chen Haoxuan's words that she was sprawled across him in a rather awkward position. Quickly, Zhou Kexin rolled over and lay down beside Chen Haoxuan.
The thunder outside continued to rumble, and in her haste to leave, Zhou Kexin had forgotten to grab her clothes. Now, she was only wearing a thin nightgown and felt cold. After a moment of contemplation, she steeled herself; after all, she had kissed Chen Haoxuan and liked him, so what was there to fear about sharing a bed and blanket?
Zhou Kexin then burrowed under the covers. With the blanket, it was warm, and she maintained a distance of about ten centimeters from Chen Haoxuan on the bed.
"Wow, you're really not afraid of me taking advantage of you," Chen Haoxuan said, feeling speechless at Zhou Kexin's actions. They weren't very familiar with each other, so how could this happen? He wondered if he was taking advantage of her or if she was taking advantage of him.
"I believe you're not that kind of person," Zhou Kexin replied softly. For some reason, she felt very comfortable and safe sleeping next to Chen Haoxuan.
