Kunlun, Qionghua Palace.
In the spacious hall, the current Sect Master of Kunlun, Xuan Xuzi, paced back and forth on the polished white jade floor. His flowing white robe brushed against the mirror-like surface, where another Xuan Xuzi stared back at him with a look of confusion and frustration.
Ever since receiving a secret report from an informant within the Nine Li Sect, Xuan Xuzi had been unable to rest or meditate for three consecutive days, constantly agitated as he walked.
Of course, this informant was no longer the original Yue Mangzi; a new person had taken their place. Initially, Xuan Xuzi thought that with Li Hong around, there was no need for any informants in the Nine Li Sect. However, unexpectedly, Li Hong had ascended during that famous battle, and soon after, this new informant voluntarily came under his wing. Xuan Xuzi readily accepted, thus gaining a new informant within the restructured Nine Li Sect.
Six years had passed, and the situation in the Cultivation World had changed dramatically.
After that renowned battle, the remaining forces of the Demon Sect retreated underground, unable to emerge. Even the arrogant Demoness Li Xiaolou had vanished. The Immortal Sect achieved a complete victory in this Spirit Realm War. Thanks to his strategic prowess during this conflict, Xuan Xuzi’s reputation soared to unprecedented heights. Some even compared him to the founding ancestor of the Nine Li Sect, Golden Mother, believing that his wisdom and courage were on par with that of his ancestor. Throughout his life, Xuan Xuzi knew that as long as he did not wish to step down, both positions of Sect Master and leader of Kunlun were firmly within his grasp.
While Xuan Xuzi did not covet these titles, he enjoyed being revered and respected by many. But now, a crisis had arisen.
Li Hong had returned from the celestial realm! He even brought shocking news! And he hadn’t informed him immediately!
Feeling uneasy, Xuan Xuzi was torn between anger at Li Hong for not notifying him right away and shock over the events in the celestial realm. He couldn’t clarify his own feelings; all he knew was that he was restless and overwhelmed by various thoughts. For three days, he had been unable to calm his mind.
This matter could not be discussed with anyone; Xuan Xuzi understood well that if it got out, it would throw the Immortal Sect into chaos. After all the hard-won stability, he did not want it to crumble on his watch.
Stomping his foot with determination, his cheeks puffed up in frustration, he declared, “If he won’t come to tell me, then I’ll go ask him! Even if I lose my informant from now on, so be it!”
Accompanied by only two elder guards, Xuan Xuzi activated the Xuantian Wujidao Formation and hurried towards the Southern Wilderness.
The current location of the Nine Li Sect Mountain Gate was publicly known throughout the entire Immortal Sect: it was at the edge of the Southern Wilderness Great Lake. Anyone wishing to visit the new Nine Li Gate Mountain Gate could simply call out three times at the lake's edge, and an elder from the sect would appear to guide them. When Chuxiong succeeded as the eighteenth leader of the Nine Li Sect, all sect leaders received invitations to witness the ceremony; naturally, Xuan Xuzi was among them. Thus, he was quite familiar with the route. Nevertheless, it still took him two large detours within the Southern Wilderness before finally locating this mirror-like lake.
However, after calling out left and right, Xuan Xuzi shouted for over a hundred times without anyone responding. He shouted from noon until the sun began to set, his throat dry from the effort. The two elder guards behind him were furious, and finally, just before nightfall, someone emerged from beneath the Great Lake.
Upon seeing this person, Xuan Xuzi was momentarily taken aback.
The newcomer was dressed as a woman, exuding a cold and ethereal presence, floating like a celestial being; it was Hui Feng, the eldest disciple of Original Qixia Palace Dai Yunzi.
After the destruction of Qixia Palace by the Demon Sect, Hui Feng had nowhere to go and felt disheartened, losing the will to revive Qixia Palace. She remained at Nine Li Sect, serving as a guest elder alongside her junior sister Yan Luo. At that time during the succession ceremony in Chuxiong, Xuan Xuzi had seen both women. Now, upon seeing Hui Feng, he recognized her immediately.
Hui Feng stepped forward to pay her respects, speaking sparingly, only saying: "Please!" as she gestured towards the lake and fell silent.
Xuan Xuzi chuckled bitterly to himself; it seemed the informant's words were indeed true. There must be significant events occurring at Nine Li Sect. His arrival had not prompted Chuxiong to come out personally, and instead, they sent a famously taciturn female elder to receive him. It was clear they did not wish to explain the situation to him.
With this thought in mind, Xuan Xuzi felt uncertain but decided to enter nonetheless.
The four of them sank to the bottom of the lake, and suddenly their surroundings brightened. They found themselves in front of a vast blue sea. In the center of that sea was a large island resembling a white spiral shell, shining brightly under the blue sky and white clouds. Upon closer inspection, at the point where water met sky, there was a faint green dot outside that white spiral shell island. From there came intermittent sounds of phoenixes soaring and dragons roaring, clear and melodious, imbued with an extraordinary aura.
Hui Feng led the way ahead while Xuan Xuzi flew alongside her, pondering how to extract the truth…
Meanwhile, in the central hall of the highest level of Temple City, led by Fuxi, Xuan Yuan, Golden Mother, Shennong, and Pure Yang Master, along with Li Hong, Heavenly Torch, Aurora, Yun Jiuzi, Yue Changzi, Ling Yanzi, Chuxiong, Chuxuan, Xi He, and Tian Cheng, everyone sat solemnly in their respective places as they convened a top-secret meeting.
Since Chuxiong became the sect leader, the tenth level of the highest tier of Temple City and the towers above it were declared forbidden grounds; ordinary disciples were not allowed entry without reason. As for the Ice and Fire Flower Teleportation Array within the tower, it had been relocated by the Spirit of the Hall. This way, ordinary disciples could reach places like the Ancient Celestial Field without passing through forbidden areas. Additionally, people like Yue Changzi and Yun Jiuzi had set up numerous restrictions and mechanisms to protect the secrets within the Temple City Underground Palace. Currently, this tenth level could be considered the most tightly guarded place in all of Temple City.
The matters to be discussed were truly astonishing; despite all these protections in place, Li Hong personally laid down another layer of restrictions. A flicker of fiery light passed through as another layer of his awareness enveloped the hall's outer walls.
Only then did Li Hong say: "Alright, we can begin discussing this important matter now."
"Wait," Chuxiong frowned and said, "The Sect Leader Xuan Xuzi has arrived. I waited for a long time and had to send Hui Feng to bring him in. Now he should be here. What should I say to him?"
Li Hong pondered for a long time and resolutely said, "Let him in, right here! We can't hide this matter from him anyway, so we might as well be open and discuss it together!"
Everyone was slightly taken aback by Li Hong's words. Yun Jiuzi voiced his opposition, saying, "That's not appropriate. Xuan Xuzi's arrival is suspicious. We haven't leaked any information, and the only ones who know are from the Nine Li Sect. Why would he come at such a critical moment?"
Chuxuan was reminded by this and immediately affirmed, "There must be a traitor! Someone in the sect must have informed him!"
The crowd erupted in discussion, and Chuxiong even began to sneer, "Very well, I, Chuxiong, as the Sect Leader, actually have a traitor among us. That traitor must be tired of living! Chuxuan, who do you think it could be?"
Chuxuan lowered his head in contemplation, his brow furrowing tighter as his expression grew strange.
While everyone was chattering about the traitor, Li Hong was the only one truly unconcerned about it. He spoke loudly, "Alright, everyone listen to me. It doesn't matter who the traitor is; there's no need to investigate right now. After all, Xuan Xuzi coming here alone and secretly already shows that he wants to talk sincerely with us. So I think we should let him participate; after all, this matter can't be hidden for long."
Since Li Hong insisted, the others stopped opposing him. Chuxiong went out and soon returned with Xuan Xuzi.
Xuan Xuzi's gaze first fell on Li Hong's face. Then he scrutinized Fuxi, Xuan Yuan, the veiled Golden Mother, Shennong... To him, these people were all unfamiliar faces. Moreover, from his perspective, Shennong and Fuxi seemed to have low cultivation levels; for a moment, Xuan Xuzi couldn't fathom their backgrounds. However, he noticed that all of them were seated at the head of the table beside Li Hong. This made him feel uncertain.
Everyone greeted him and added another chair for Xuan Xuzi to sit on Li Hong's right side. Once seated, Xuan Xuzi immediately cupped his hands and asked, "May I ask who these seniors are?" He focused his attention on Fuxi and the others.
Li Hong chuckled and pointed specifically at the veiled Golden Mother without mentioning anyone else. "Can you guess who she is?"
During the last battle in the celestial realm, Golden Mother was injured by the backlash of the domineering Chaotic Primordial Mirror while clearing a path for the Rebels. Coupled with years of suffering in the celestial realm, even after Li Hong used numerous celestial herbs on her, she could not recover. Now she had lost all her cultivation; she was merely being kept alive by Li Hong's herbs—living day by day. She had a strong-willed nature and refused to return to Kunlun since her cultivation was gone; she felt that going back would evoke painful memories and preferred to hide in Nine Li Sect instead. Li Hong had no choice but to accommodate her wishes. But now that Kunlun's Sect Leader and Golden Mother's direct disciple Xuan Xuzi stood before her, Li Hong no longer wanted to keep it a secret.
As expected, upon hearing this, Golden Mother immediately became displeased. She glared with her unique voice and said ominously, "Kid! We had an agreement! Don't you want that mirror anymore?"
Li Hong's face flushed as he thought about his promise to someone, feeling a bit embarrassed for exposing it now. As for whether he would receive the Chaotic Primordial Mirror, Li Hong didn't care much; after all, he had plenty of treasures already, and losing one Chaotic Primordial Mirror was no big deal.
However, who was Xuan Xuzi? He gazed at Golden Mother with suspicion. His cultivation level was now second only to Li Hong and Ling Yanzi of the Immortal Sect, comparable to Yun Jiuzi. So even though Golden Mother wore a veil, her true appearance could not escape his Divine Consciousness. Although her face resembled a skeleton, the structure remained, especially since Golden Mother's voice was truly unique. Xuan Xuzi looked at Golden Mother without speaking, but doubt began to show on his face, gradually turning into contemplation and finally erupting into ecstasy. Without hesitation, he knelt before Golden Mother and exclaimed, "Kunlun Thirty-Second Generation Disciple Master Xuanxu pays respects to Ancestor!" He knocked his head against the ground nine times in succession, each thud resonating loudly.
At this point, it would be too much for Golden Mother to deny it.
She slowly said, "Since you have recognized me, let it be. However, do not tell anyone else about my return."
Xuan Xuzi knelt respectfully and replied, "Disciple will strictly follow Ancestor's orders! But Ancestor must allow disciple to serve by your side so that I may listen to your teachings day and night."
Golden Mother nodded silently after a long pause. "You may stand behind me."
Xuan Xuzi immediately complied and stood behind Golden Mother, his face filled with admiration and joy. Li Hong initially wanted to persuade Golden Mother to let him remain by her side since he was the sect leader and should be given some respect. However, considering the matters they were about to discuss, he changed his mind; it would be just right to use Golden Mother's authority to keep Xuan Xuzi in check.
Li Hong cleared his throat and looked around at everyone seriously. "We have gathered today to discuss an important matter. The Ancient Divine Palace has been destroyed, and Spiritual Energy is rapidly depleting. In the coming century, Middle-Earth will not give birth to even a single child with Spiritual Roots. Moreover, the Nine Great Celestial Realms—including our Temple City and Ancient Celestial Field—will lose the support of the Ancient Divine Palace. From now on, Spiritual Energy will continue to thin out. This means that within a hundred years, the entire Middle-Earth will no longer be suitable for cultivation. Therefore, we must withdraw. The current question is: where do we go? How do we withdraw?"
As soon as these words were spoken, others were not surprised since they had already known about it beforehand. However, it was the first time Xuan Xuzi heard this news. This revelation shocked him even more than when Li Hong brought back an immortal; it felt like a thunderclap above his head. He exclaimed in disbelief, "I can't believe such a thing is happening!"
