Nine Li Cave Heaven, Nine Li Peak Main Hall.
Ling Jizi, Yue Mangzi, Ling Xiaozi, Chu Li, Chulin, and the newly promoted Elder Brother of Nine Mystic Peak, Ling Shengzi, along with Ling Yi Zi and the new Elder Brother of Nine Beam Peak, Ling Ruzi, knelt on the ground, all looking dejected. Chulin even wore an expression of utter despair. Behind the Black Jade Chair, a row of elderly men in dark robes stood solemnly, their eyes fixed on the seven, led by the Azure Guardian directly under the Yandao Demon Lord of Azure Sky Palace.
In the vast Main Hall, only one person sat upright. “Ling Daozi” coldly stared at the seven before him, his gaze sharp as a sword piercing through. It was clear that he was eager to kill to vent his anger.
Standing beside him, Elder Yao fanned the flames further, crossing his arms as he reported to “Ling Daozi”: “Master, these seven must have had ulterior motives and deliberately let that phoenix go. I suggest using Soul Snatching **; let’s see if they dare to be dishonest!”
“Ling Daozi” pondered for a moment and slowly nodded: “Alright, I approve.”
The faces of Ling Jizi, Yue Mangzi, and the others changed dramatically. Ling Xiaozi was sweating profusely and shouted, “Master! It has nothing to do with me! I didn’t do it! It definitely wasn’t me! I know who it is; it must be!!” He pointed a finger suddenly at Chu Li and yelled, “It’s him! I know it’s definitely him! Chu Li trembled all over like a leaf in the wind, crying out in protest: “It’s not me! Really, it’s not me! Ling Xiaozi, you’re slandering me! Hmph! You want to make me a scapegoat; I bet the one who let the phoenix go is you!”
“It’s you!”
“No! It’s you!”
Ling Xiaozi and Chu Li shouted hoarsely at each other, their faces flushed as they argued fiercely. Just as Elder Yao frowned and was about to speak, a clear voice interjected.
Chulin clearly stated: “It was me! Just kill me!”
All six of Ling Jizi were stunned, and both Chu Li and Ling Xiaozi forgot their quarrel, staring blankly at Chulin.
Suddenly standing up, Chulin declared loudly: “I did it; I take full responsibility for all the sins. Whether you want to kill or torture me, do as you please!”
The delicate Chulin, standing tall in the center of the hall, had a frosty expression on her beautiful face, filled with extreme disdain as she swept her gaze over each of Ling Jizi, Yue Mangzi, and others before finally locking eyes with “Ling Daozi” on the Black Jade Chair. Her gaze turned extremely fierce and resentful. If looks could kill, then at this moment “Ling Daozi” would have been pierced by countless arrows!
“Ling Daozi” narrowed his pupils suddenly and coldly stared at Chulin: “Aren’t you afraid of death?”
“I died long ago when you took over Nine Li Cave Heaven! I only regret not following my master back then! Enough talk; if you want to kill or torture me, do it now!” Chulin stood fearless.
At this moment, Chulin's demeanor resembled that of Ling Xiangzi. Ling Jizi and Yue Mangzi felt a deep sense of shame, unable to even look at their junior disciple.
"Ling Daozi" wore an angry expression, but gradually seemed to calm down. He waved his hand and said lightly, "Since you want to die, I will grant you that wish. Someone, take her away." With a rumbling sound, rocks fell, and half of the cave collapsed. Chulin was left isolated in the pitch-black depths of the cave, day after day, year after year.
She had consumed the highly toxic Three Flower Five Soul Pill; without the antidote, it would not kill her immediately. However, every morning and evening for an hour, her spiritual power surged like boiling water, making her feel worse than death. She possessed Initial Golden Core cultivation but could not continue to practice.
Even so, Chulin felt it was better than being a traitor and puppet. In the dark cave, Chulin smiled as tears sparkled like jewels.
From then on, no one saw Chulin again.
In the main hall, Ling Jizi and Yue Mangzi believed Chulin had been killed and were so frightened they didn't know what to say. They made fools of themselves in their desperate pleas for mercy, only wanting to save their own lives.
"Ling Daozi" grew impatient and stood up coldly saying, "You are all useless! Take them away and lock them up!" With a flick of his sleeve, he prepared to leave.
Just as he flew into the air, a muffled groan escaped him; suddenly things took a turn when Ling Daozi fell from mid-air like a heavy stone with a loud thud onto the ground. He crashed onto the hard White Jade Plaza, creating a human-shaped dent in the surface. All the Azure Guardians were shocked; just as they wanted to rush forward to protect their master, they saw Ling Daozi suddenly stand upright from the dent! His knees remained straight as he stood stiffly like a zombie.
Even though Ling Daozi's back was turned towards them, Ling Jizi still noticed something was wrong with him. The Old Demon’s body seemed to convulse uncontrollably; every muscle trembled as if he had been poisoned by some binding toxin—his limbs moved erratically while his large head bobbed back and forth.
Elder Yao flew forward but before he could get close, the Old Demon waved his sleeve. Elder Yao let out a long scream as he was sent flying outwards with a crash against the hall's door. He spat blood on the spot and collapsed to the ground, unable to get up for quite some time.
"Deserved it!" Ling Jizi secretly applauded but was nearly knocked off his feet by what happened next.
Old Demon slowly turned around, and he was actually "changing faces"!
The skin on his face trembled as if it were wearing countless layers of human skin masks, or as if it were melting. Layers of human faces appeared and alternated on the surface, and in his eye sockets, there was nothing but the whites of his eyes. Gradually, his entire body transformed into a mass that was human-shaped yet not human, a swirling black mist that continuously alternated between something indescribably eerie and terrifying.
Old Demon shook more violently, letting out a mournful scream, and like a Whirlwind, he soared into the sky, disappearing in an instant.

Elder Yao got up and saw the expressions of the six people. He immediately became furious and coldly said, "The previous command from the Sect Master still stands. Guardian Elders, keep an eye on these fellows. Anyone who dares to cause trouble will be killed on the spot!"
More than ten Azure Guardians stepped forward, grabbing Ling Jizi and the others like eagles catching chicks, taking them away for supervision.
Only then did Elder Yao rush off with the other guardians to pursue Old Demon, constantly muttering to himself. The Sect Master seemed to have gone mad.
