The instructor stared at Kevin with deep eyes, as if trying to see through the fog in the young man's heart. He knew deep down that Kevin might hold a dismissive or even rebellious attitude towards any rules and punishments. However, he also understood the difficulties of life, knowing that pressure and setbacks are often the nutrients for growth.
"Kevin, I understand the situation at your home," the instructor spoke, with a calm tone but carrying an unquestionable seriousness, "Tense family environment, parents arguing frequently. Coupled with the psychological changes of adolescence, the pressure is indeed very high."
Kevin's eyes instantly became sharp, like an enraged beast. He sneered and said sarcastically, "Oh, since you already know, what can you do about it? Can you change anything?"
The instructor smiled faintly, seemingly unaffected by Kevin's sarcasm. "Of course, I can't change your family or the world. But I want to tell you, my family environment was also very bad. My parents used to argue a lot, and our financial situation was not good. But I didn't give up, I worked hard to get out of that situation. Now, I'm doing pretty well."
Kevin seemed even more impatient. He placed his hands on the table, supporting himself, and almost provocatively asked, "So what do you think I should do? Just obey everything, be a good boy and listen obediently?"
"No, that's not what I mean," the instructor said firmly. "But in highly stressful environments, staying calm and composed is more important. Accepting things as they come may not always be a bad thing, after all, everyone has the right to choose their own path in life."
Kevin at this moment burst out angrily, "Choice? What do you mean by choice? In this lifeless environment, all choices are just illusions!"
The instructor took a deep breath, clearly trying hard to suppress his emotions. He looked at Kevin and said earnestly, " Kevin, your irrationality and anger will only lead you into deeper trouble. Life is not singular, nor is it only darkness. Sometimes, it is precisely because we accept some facts we are unwilling to accept that we can better understand ourselves and find our true selves."
Kevin looked at the instructor, a hint of a cold smile on his lips, but he didn't say anything more. Deep down, he knew that perhaps the instructor's words made sense, but so what? In his view, this world was still not worth trusting and expecting.
Kevin's cold smile became even more intense, as if every word from the instructor was a huge joke.
"Thank you for your 'insight,' instructor. But your generation, you so-called 'adults,' you simply don't understand. You don't understand the pressure, anxiety, and struggle behind us young people. What do you know about family issues? Puberty changes? That's just the tip of the iceberg. The burden I carry is something you at your age could never imagine."
Kevin's eyes seemed to carry a kind of flame, burning with his inner dissatisfaction and rebellion. He raised his hand in a wide swing, as if to overturn the entire classroom.
"Have you ever thought about how the narrow and mechanized education system of schools oppresses our generation? Every rule, every assignment, every test feels like a shackle, binding me in this suffocating space. I have dreams, I have passion, but all of it has been stifled by this outdated system."
Facing Kevin's stormy words, the instructor couldn't help but feel a bit at a loss. He scratched his head, thinking to himself: "This kid does seem to have some issues, but traditional education might not be able to solve this problem."
KevinSeeing the instructor's helpless and bewildered expression, it seemed to bring a twisted sense of satisfaction.
"It looks like you finally understand, instructor. This so-called education is nothing but the long-term brainwashing and control of our generation by the adults. I have no intention of becoming a victim of this brainwashing education like you."
The instructor took a deep breath, trying to speak again: "Kevin, I know you have a lot of dissatisfaction, and perhaps some of it is justified. But avoiding and rebelling will not solve the problem. Since you have so many opinions about all of this, why not try to change it in a more mature and practical way?"
"Mature? Practical?" Kevin couldn't help but sneer again, "Who decides what is mature and what is practical? Perhaps, in this distorted society, my way is the most correct. Don't you think so?"
The instructor sighed deeply, feeling that the young man's state of mind was more complex than he had expected. He felt a sense of helplessness, thinking that perhaps this was the unique rebellion and incomprehension of teenagers. He stood up, walked slowly to Kevin's side, slowed his breathing, and earnestly patted his shoulder.
"Kevin, I hope that one day you can think things through. Your perspective may have some validity, but the world is not simply black and white. Sometimes, life may push us to an extreme, but that doesn't mean we should remain stagnant there. If you continue to just evade and resist, without trying to understand and change, you may miss out on many important things."
Kevin's mouth twitched slightly, apparently he didn't like being lectured. He disdainfully turned his body and gave the instructor a provocative look. "I've been punished, and the lecture is over. Can I leave now?"
Kevin turned and walked out of the instructor's office with an air of arrogance. His steps were firm, as if he only wanted to leave this oppressive place. However, at the moment he walked out the door, a complex emotion suddenly surged in his heart. His heartbeat quickened, and for a moment, he didn't know why.
He knew the instructor's words were not without reason, but his pride and stubbornness made him unwilling to accept them. Yes, he admitted that the instructor's words had touched him, but this touch was like a double-edged sword, both making him reflect and making him more determined to stick to his own position.
