The deep blue, clear night sky resembled a pristine velvet tapestry, with a bright moon quietly hanging in the center. A few sparse stars twinkled faintly in the distance from the moon. Below the moon was a layer of clouds, the upper half shimmering silver under the moonlight, constantly shifting and rolling, resembling an endless silver ocean.
This silver sea was different from the real ocean on Land; it was incredibly tranquil yet fragile, easily destroyed by even the slightest disturbance.
Black Abyss was swiftly navigating through this sea. Cold, damp mist rushed toward Li Hong, who sat cross-legged in the center of Black Abyss, with Chuxiong a yard behind him. In the distance, several small figures were quietly huddled together on the broad back of a dragon: Little Fei, Big Silver Ball, Small Silver Ball, and Soul Devourer.
They had escaped from Nine Li Cave Heaven for over half a day now. It was midnight, and ahead lay Southern Wilderness. As long as they reached the Great Lake hidden deep in the mountains of Southern Wilderness, Spirit of the Hall could teleport them to Temple City. At that point, they would be safe. However… a heavy sense of worry surged within Li Hong.
All evidence indicated that Yandao Demon Lord would come after him without delay. Perhaps the true traitor, Elder Yao, had already informed him; it was possible that Demon Sect Monster would soon discover his presence, and even Yandao Demon Lord himself might personally pursue him.
Thinking of this, Li Hong suddenly opened his eyes wide and patted Black Abyss beneath him, speaking in Dragon Language: “Black Abyss, go faster!”
The enormous dragon eyes of Black Abyss blinked tightly for a moment before suddenly opening wide again, two bolts of lightning illuminating the clouds. He began to accelerate. The sound of rushing wind grew louder. Soon, dark mountain shadows began to rise higher on the distant horizon. Li Hong's spirits lifted: “We're almost there! Second brother, hold on tight!”
At that moment, an alarming premonition surged within him. Li Hong had no time to speak; he jumped up suddenly, unleashing an Iridescence that shot out toward the left.
It was as if a jam factory had exploded in mid-air; colorful beams of light erupted with a loud bang as fierce winds howled from left to right, containing immense energy. Black Abyss tilted to the right instinctively and turned that way.
Chuxiong let out half a roar before swallowing the rest because he saw Li Hong in red armor shoot out like a celestial being, soaring far beyond the clouds as if he were charging straight toward the bright moon above. Two Iridescences and a beam of golden light struck simultaneously like three brilliant rainbows. Several Black Lights rushed forward and collided violently with the three rainbows.
The sky erupted once more into a brilliant flash; energy surged downward as clouds shattered into pieces. Terrifying blue sparks crackled wildly within the clouds while Chuxiong caught a whiff of an odd stench reminiscent of rotten eggs.
Little Fei dashed over to Chuxiong's side in just a few steps. Chuxiong heard Little Girl's voice asking: “Master has charged out to fight; what should we do? Should we stop and wait for him?”
Just as Chuxiong was about to rush out, he heard Li Hong's distant roar: “You all hurry and go! Get inside there first; we'll meet at the old place!”
A burst of fire shot from Li Hong's hand, quickly transforming into a massive Fire Phoenix, which charged at Black Abyss's tail and collided with it. Black Abyss let out a terrible roar, uncontrollably leaping forward, cursing inwardly, "Why did it burn the little dragon!"
Chuxiong stood on the dragon's head, watching helplessly as his elder brother remained on the battlefield behind.
In his life, he had never defied his elder brother. Whatever Li Hong requested, Chuxiong would do without hesitation. But this time, he truly regretted it.
Li Hong was well aware that all of this was aimed at him. If Chuxiong and Black Abyss stayed behind, the likely outcome would be that they would all die together. This was something he absolutely did not want to see. Now there were no more worries behind him. But how could he escape today?
Powerful auras were rapidly approaching from all directions, including the one person he least wanted to see at that moment. Indeed, that traitor had leaked information and even guessed that he was retreating to the Southern Wilderness. Elder Yao was undeniably talented.
The white-haired Azure Guardians surrounding him each possessed cultivation levels above his own, yet none made a move to attack; they simply encircled him, clearly waiting for that person to arrive. That person was already within a thousand miles.
If he arrived, escape would be impossible!
Thinking of this, Li Hong furrowed his brow and decisively resolved to fight back.
Six Azure Guardians had already closed in. Without exchanging any words, they silently began to attack, each summoning their own Soul Summoning and Spirit Refining Banner to form a massive flag net that tightly surrounded Li Hong in the center.
A flash of golden light erupted as Yue Que pierced through the air and vanished like lightning.
The Old Demon directly in front of Li Hong finally reacted, exclaiming, "Celestial Artifact! Everyone be careful!"
Black Light flickered chaotically as the Soul Summoning and Spirit Refining Banner began to dodge the rapidly appearing golden light. After all, Yue Que was a Celestial Artifact; even though the Soul Summoning and Spirit Refining Banner had been cultivated together with these Old Demons for many years, it was merely at the level of a Superior Spirit Artifact. How could it compare to Yue Que, which was born as a Celestial Artifact? The Old Demons feared that their life-bound treasures might suffer damage and collectively chose to evade.
Black Flag Great Net was finally broken, and Li Hong shot out from the gap, surrounded by three swirling Iridescence. In the blink of an eye, Li Hong had already escaped a hundred feet.
"Thinking of escaping? Dream on!" someone snorted coldly, the voice piercing Li Hong's eardrum. Li Hong was startled, suddenly feeling a chilling wind rushing toward the back of his head.
Without thinking, he summoned the Divine Slaying Monument and threw it backward, shouting, "Go!"
Just as he tossed the Divine Slaying Monument, Li Hong felt a surge of urgency and accelerated forward, his body plummeting downward.
But it was still too late; two powerful forces collided violently behind him. Even the Divine Slaying Monument couldn't withstand the dazzling golden light and was forced back into Li Hong's Upper Dantian. As for Li Hong, he was knocked dizzy by the tremendous shock, his mind ringing like countless gongs and drums. Without a second thought, he was sent flying away like an arrow released from a bow.
The pursuer behind him had no intention of letting him go and continued to chase closely.
Li Hong felt dazed, but his Divine Consciousness remained clear. When he looked back in shock, he was stunned to see that it was the brother of the Divine Slaying Monument, the Celestial Artifact, Bagua Crown!
Like the Divine Slaying Monument, the Bagua Crown was part of a set of combined artifacts. Each component could be used separately, significantly reducing its power but still classified as a Celestial Artifact. In the mortal realm, Celestial Artifacts were extremely rare. Now it became clear that the Yandao Demon Lord possessed at least three Celestial Artifacts: the Bagua Crown and two pieces from the Six Paths of Reincarnation. Originally, there should have been four Celestial Artifacts, but the most important one—the Divine Slaying Monument, which helped the Yandao Demon Lord absorb souls for cultivation—had been taken by him. This was precisely why the Old Demon relentlessly pursued him and shamelessly tried to frame him to be independent from the Immortal Sect.
Li Hong immediately communicated with the Divine Tablet Spirit: "I see your brother; will you go with it?"
"Why would I go with it? I've told you before that they are my brothers only in your words; I actually consider myself their mastermind and soul! As long as you can defeat that Old Demon, you might take the Bagua Crown. But it seems you can't do that now; I advise you to escape quickly, or I might end up back in that old demon's hands."
The Artifact Spirit didn't miss the chance to mock Li Hong, but what it said was true; all Li Hong wanted now was to escape.
The appearance of the Bagua Crown only meant one thing: the Yandao Demon Lord was already very close.
The Bagua Crown relentlessly pursued from behind. The distance between the Bagua Crown and six Azure Guardians, who were the personal guards of the Yandao Demon Lord, was closing in, with more powerful presences gathering towards this location.
Sixty old demons with cultivation above the Late Stage of Nascent Soul, plus a genuine Old Demon, made Li Hong's scalp tingle just thinking about it. In a panic, he desperately activated his Nascent Soul to fly, but suddenly felt his hair stand on end as the Bagua Crown was propelled forward by the Old Demon, rapidly accelerating towards him.
With no other choice, Li Hong had to throw the Divine Slaying Monument behind him. The two brothers' Celestial Artifacts collided violently once again.
This time, however, Li Hong was prepared. Although his Upper Dantian shook violently, he used the force of the collision to propel himself further away, creating a bit more distance from the pursuing Azure Guardians.
Just as he wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and didn’t even have time to retrieve the Divine Slaying Monument, a flash of Black Light appeared before him. Before he could react, Yue Que automatically stepped forward to protect him, unleashing a brilliant golden light that struck directly at the Black Light. It cleaved the Soul Summoning and Spirit Refining Banner in two, causing it to fall from the sky.
A distant scream echoed: “My banner!”
A large group of Old Demons clad in gold and silver dragon-patterned dark robes rushed over. One of them landed behind, stumbling and crying out in distress, his face paler than his companions.
“That’s a Celestial Artifact; we must not be careless!” A familiar voice rang out as a figure shrouded in black mist finally appeared before Li Hong.
Two seemingly ordinary eyes scrutinized Li Hong from above the black mist, accompanied by a voice that sounded surprisingly cheerful: “After so much effort, I finally caught you! Surrender and obediently hand over the Divine Slaying Monument, and I might consider sparing your life.”
“Get lost!”
Li Hong couldn’t be bothered to waste words; it was now or never! With a loud shout, he summoned the Divine Slaying Monument once more. It suddenly expanded to the size of a house and smashed forward fiercely. At the same time, Yue Que also grew immensely bright with golden light that even overshadowed the moon above, sweeping through the demon horde with overwhelming force.
“He has two Celestial Artifacts!” someone gasped in astonishment.
But Li Hong could hear and see nothing. His body transformed into a beam of golden light, forcefully piercing through the gap created by the Divine Slaying Monument and Yue Que.
"Hehe." There was a light laugh in his ear, it was the voice of Yandao Demon Lord.
A surge of scorching energy suddenly caught up with him. Just as Li Hong realized something was wrong, his form abruptly materialized from the rapidly advancing golden light. His face twisted and contorted, the skin shifting from purple to green. An extremely strange energy rampaged through his meridians, overwhelming and excruciatingly painful. Awareness surrounded him, attempting to restrain this strange energy, but it was utterly futile.
He watched helplessly as two beams of black light shot toward him. Li Hong found that he couldn't even move a little finger, cold sweat breaking out all over him; he never expected to meet his end here!
Just as this thought crossed his mind, he felt a sudden heat on one side of his body, and red droplets of blood splattered before his eyes. He lost control and fell downward, his blurred consciousness registering the sight of his arms and legs flying off in the distance, slowly breaking apart into seventeen or eighteen pieces right before his eyes.
With a splash, Li Hong's remains plunged into a certain part of the Great Lake below. At the same time, two beams of golden light followed closely behind at an imperceptible speed, disappearing into the lake surface.
