The Soul Devourer resembled a square-shaped Great City pool, or like a large block of black gelatin stuck between the abyss. When it trembled, it indeed looked like a massive slab of fatty gelatin shaking. However, this slab was so enormous that one could not see the other side of its body, creating the illusion that it was a "high wall."
Now, a hole was slowly forming in the "high wall," directly facing everyone.
Li Hong took the lead, and everyone cautiously stepped towards the opening that was gradually appearing. The ground was very slippery, with grayish-white remnants of Demon Infant fragments and large pools of blood everywhere. No one paid attention; at this moment, having solid ground beneath their feet felt more reassuring, and no one cared about the slippery substances they were stepping on.
The hole finally formed, and the Soul Devourer's gelatinous trembling ceased.
This hole had a diameter of three feet and resembled a long black tunnel, but its walls were coated with slippery transparent mucus, winding and not straight, extending deep into an unseen darkness.
"What does this mean?" Jiang Xuanzi turned around in confusion.
"Are we supposed to enter its belly? Absolutely not!" Sister Sheyu declared firmly. Looking at the strange transparent mucus flowing outwards, Sister Sheyu wrinkled her nose in disgust.
At that moment, Little Fei moved. The little girl's voice echoed in Li Hong's mind again: "Master, let's step back." She flew up into the air and turned to retreat.
As soon as she finished speaking, the "gelatin" began to retract powerfully, and the hole suddenly closed. Just as everyone was surprised, they heard a loud hissing sound followed by a rush of cold air as a pile of white objects flew towards them.
Everyone shouted in alarm and hurriedly retreated, thinking it was some strange projectile. When it landed on their heads, however, it had no attacking power—cold and sticky; upon closer inspection, it seemed to still be moving.
Quickly retreating and focusing their gaze, everyone was horrified.
The hole in the middle of the Soul Devourer's body continued to shrink while spewing out large amounts of strange objects resembling small human heads or large hailstones covered in white mucus. They looked like some kind of eggs. Each time the hole contracted, a chilling wind howled through, making it hard for people to open their eyes amidst the stench. These bizarre objects rolled chaotically on the ground, piling higher and higher as everyone continued to retreat and fly upwards. It took about an incense stick's worth of time before it gradually stopped.
The Blood Pool Clearing was already filled with strange white spherical objects; looking around revealed a sea of white. These bizarre things were still wriggling, accompanied by crackling sounds everywhere.
Someone sliced open one of these strange objects with a sword and was immediately shocked—it was a human head! Inside the grayish-white tough membrane was clearly a smaller-sized baby head. Upon closer inspection, this baby head looked somewhat odd; it seemed flattened significantly and had a mouth that did not resemble a human's but rather had a mosquito-like pointed snout. Below the head, there was no body—just a segment resembling a strange creature's head.
“Demon Infant Demon Embryo!” Everyone understood and was even more shocked.
It turned out that this Soul Devourer was the ancestor of the over one hundred thousand Blood Pool Walking Corpse in this place. This Soul Devourer, a mysterious creature, possessed innate abilities and grew in the depths of the dark abyss within the Extreme Yin Heaven and Earth Yin Spirit Eye. It combined certain characteristics of the Yin Spirit Eye with its own bloodthirsty nature, resulting in countless Demon Embryo hatching within it. Using these Demon Embryo as bait, the Demon Sect raised a large number of Walking Corpse Demon Servants.
“Soul Devourer is gone!” someone shouted.
At some point, that Black High Wall had vanished.
Everyone rushed to the edge of the abyss. In the depths of darkness, something was slowly sinking—it was the Soul Devourer. It had shrunk considerably, now only about a hundred feet long, its shape no longer square but resembling an irregular black mass.
Li Hong shouted, “We can't let it escape! Yun Jiuzi is still inside it!” With a flash of Iridescence, Lingyi emerged and prepared to chase after it.
Suddenly, a delicate female voice appeared in his ear again: “Master, hurry here, Yun Jiuzi is here!”
Li Hong paused and shot back toward Little Fei.
Little Fei was hovering above a thick layer of Demon Embryo, about ten feet deep, raising a silver-white claw to accurately point below.
With urgency in his mind, Li Hong jumped into the sea of Demon Embryo, using both hands to fling large amounts of slippery, wriggling Demon Embryo outward. The Demon Embryo was extremely slick; as he dug through it, more surged in from the sides to fill the gaps, filling his nose with a foul stench. Jiang Xuanzi and others were alarmed, and Li Hong shouted, “Hurry and help! Yun Jiuzi has been spit out by the Soul Devourer, he’s inside!”
Everyone was filled with joy and emotion, just as they were about to jump into the sea of Demon Embryo. They heard Ying Youzi shout, “Don’t move, watch me!” His body swayed and revealed his true form, which was much smaller and resembled a large dolphin. With a splash, he dove into the white sea of Demon Embryo. Moments later, the surface of the white Demon Embryo began to rise higher as something below struggled to push outward. The crowd shouted in unison and rushed forward, using their hands and feet to pull vigorously until a long object emerged.
It was clearly a human shape, wrapped in a thick layer of slimy membrane. Li Hong rushed over and pulled with all his strength; with a ripping sound, the tough membrane tore open, revealing a familiar face that was gaunt and yellowish.
“Yun Jiuzi!” Li Hong quickly tore away the outer membrane.
Yun Jiuzi was so emaciated that he resembled a skeleton, devoid of breath, and his heart no longer beat. However, Li Hong could clearly sense that his Nascent Soul was still within him, which filled him with great joy. He embraced Yun Jiuzi and flew to a stone summit, flattening the top of the summit with a single palm and laying Yun Jiuzi down on the stone ground. After a moment of thought, he took out a Cosmic Vitality Pill from his Cosmic Bag and placed it in Yun Jiuzi's mouth, pressing his palms against his back to channel Awareness and help him absorb the medicinal effects.
After a short while, Yun Jiuzi's chest began to rise and fall. Eventually, he exhaled a foul-smelling breath that rose into the air and suddenly opened his eyes, a glimmer of brilliance flashing from their depths as he flipped over and sat up.
The two pairs of hands tightly clasped together.
"We meet again," Li Hong said with a smile.
"Good!"
"Are you alright?"
"I'm fine. I knew you would come for me."
Their tiger-like gazes met, and everything was understood without words, though both felt their eyes slightly redden.
Everyone quietly watched this scene, their eyes stinging and warmth surging in their chests. No one spoke; each person silently etched this touching moment into their hearts.
A loud voice shattered the tranquility.
Ying Youzi jumped out from the sea of Demon Embryos and transformed into human form, spitting out saliva as he exclaimed, "Damn, these things are really stinky! The smell is overwhelming; I haven't eaten anything for a year! But..." He chuckled mischievously while holding up a small object. "It seems I've found something valuable. Elder Chu Hongzi, take a look at what this is!"
He tossed it over from a distance, and Li Hong caught it with an intrigued sound. The object appeared to be only three inches long but was surprisingly heavy. It was covered in a thick layer of slimy membrane; when peeled away, it revealed a small, brilliantly shining treasure boat made of white metal.
Yun Jiuzi's gaze flickered as he recognized it. "It's Elder Kunlun Jiang Taozi's life treasure! But he has already lost his power... sigh," he let out a long sigh.
"Kunlun's item? Tsk tsk, it seems I am of no use anymore. This thing would only bring trouble to me; it's better off in Elder Yunjiu's hands. I can explain the situation later and provide evidence." Ying Youzi, seeing that it was a Kunlun artifact, knew he could not possess it, so he generously did a favor.
Yun Jiuzi thanked him for accepting it and looked at the treasure ship with a sigh.
"This place is not suitable for staying long. Since we have already rescued Elder Yunjiu and defeated the Demon Sect's hundred thousand Blood Pool Walking Corpses, we can consider this a great achievement. It seems the Purgatory Ten Kings are not here because of Chu Hongzi, but rather due to the Soul Devourer. Now that the Soul Devourer has sunk into the abyss, they might return at any moment. We must hurry and leave," Sister Sheyu said as she flew over, speaking in a serious tone.
"Let's go!" Jiang Xuanzi said as he grabbed Yun Jiuzi and turned to fly out.
Li Hong remained standing still.
Du Yizi spoke solemnly, "Why isn't Second Brother leaving?"
Li Hong had made up his mind and resolutely said, "You all go ahead. I will go down with Little Fei to take a look. I won't leave until I uncover the secrets of the Demon Sect and the Soul Devourer. Yun Jiuzi will be entrusted to you, Brother."
Du Yizi chuckled knowingly and transmitted a few words to Jiang Xuanzi and Sister Sheyu before patting Li Hong's shoulder with a smile, "Your brother is definitely not mistaken. For Elder Yunjiu, you are willing to risk your life; you are truly loyal! Good brothers stand together through thick and thin! No need to say anything more; I will go down with you."
To refuse again would seem pretentious. Li Hong glanced at the departing group one last time and smiled, "Brother, let's go down now."
The two joined hands and jumped into the seemingly bottomless abyss.
********
The dark abyss resembled an endless pit; no matter how they flew, they could not see the bottom. Li Hong and Du Yizi chose to descend freely. Above them was Little Fei's hazy golden light.
"Junior Brother, if I encounter trouble in the future, will you save me like you saved Yun Jiuzi?" Heavenly Torch suddenly spoke up.
Li Hong then realized that Heavenly Torch had not "slept" since the last time. After thinking for a moment, he decided to stretch out his arms and legs to enjoy a brief moment of rest, teasing, "Don't worry, with me around, you definitely won't die."
Heavenly Torch was satisfied: "I've decided to wait until you're out of danger before I cultivate. Right now, I feel very uneasy; you need to be careful."
Feeling warmth in his heart, Li Hong hurriedly asked the Way: "Do you know about the concept of the Yin Spirit Eye?"
"This is the first time I've heard you mention the Yin Spirit Eye. However, you're right; this place does give me that feeling. Where there is Yang, there is Yin. If there are nine major Yang Spiritual Eyes in Middle-Earth, perhaps there are also nine major Yin Spirit Eyes. The Demon Sect chose this place as their base; I must say they have good insight."
Li Hong felt a stir in his heart as a flash of inspiration crossed his mind. Before he could think it through, he suddenly felt a bone-chilling coldness. His heart tightened, and Awareness immediately spread across his body.
Pausing the conversation with Heavenly Torch, Li Hong grabbed Du Yizi and transmitted a message: "We're at the location."
The black mist was thick, and Divine Consciousness could not reach far. Heavenly Torch began to emit his Strange energy waves again. Du Yizi sensed it once more and transmitted back: "In front of outsiders, be careful with what’s inside your body; this secret must not be revealed in front of the Demon Sect Monster."
With that reminder, Li Hong realized he was still within the Fengdu Hidden Palace and the Demon Sect's territory. He immediately said to Heavenly Torch: "Don't move for now."
Amidst the ethereal swirling black mist, a massive silhouette gradually emerged.
