"Form groups of ten, and members must assist each other without scattering. Everyone move forward together." Li Hong arranged the strategy using military tactics and nodded at Jiang Xuanzi, Du Yizi, and Shooting Jade Fairy.
The four of them flew ahead into the dark Underground space. Behind them, the Beast Cultivator Elders formed teams of ten, entering one after another.
The Underground space was filled with a powerful Yin Energy Fluctuation, centered in the northern part of this tunnel entrance. Here, Divine Consciousness could not reach far; no one knew how vast this place truly was, but the further they flew, the more astonished everyone became.
It was incredibly large; it was hard to imagine such a vast Underground space existed beneath the surface. Countless stone peaks and mounds jutted out from the ground, resembling a flight over a Stone Forest, with strange, foul-smelling Black Water flowing everywhere on the surface. The surfaces of all the stones were slick; walking on the ground would likely result in slipping with every step. In the darkness, glowing objects could be seen here and there; upon closer inspection, they turned out to be Moss. Although this bioluminescent Moss was scarce, its faint glow was enough for Li Hong and others to see everything clearly.
If one claimed that this place was lifeless, they would be mistaken; this Underground space was home to various monsters. Ordinary people would meet their demise within just two or three yards of entering.
Many Strange Gray-White Venomous Snakes looked entirely different from the poisonous snakes on the surface. Upon closer inspection, some even had long centipede-like legs. They gathered in groups, with several winding around entire stone peaks, their size quite intimidating. Although they had no eyes, these large snakes could accurately sense the groups flying overhead, flicking their fiery red tongues into the air. There were also small beasts with Strange appearances that were hard to identify; they seemed harmless at first glance, but when they opened their mouths, their sharp teeth revealed that they were anything but friendly. Many giant Insects that clearly lived in this dark Underground resembled Scorpions; their enormous size excited one of the Beast Cultivator Elders who had transformed from a scorpion-like creature, thinking he had encountered kin. A second look revealed that they were merely larger without any intelligence. Numerous Giant Lizards had eyes that had degenerated into narrow slits; clearly having poor eyesight, they crawled quickly without ever colliding with anything.
In the turbulent Strange Black Water on the ground, something stirred as a massive tail splashed out of the water, dragging down a lizard. The water splashed everywhere as the Black Water boiled like a cauldron before finally calming down.
Before long, the monsters began to dwindle until they completely disappeared. The front of the team suddenly stopped as Shooting Jade Fairy raised her luminous white palm high and pointed forward.
Du Yizi nodded and transmitted to Li Hong: "Blood Scent; it's a very strong Human Blood Stench." He emphasized "human" heavily.
Li Hong frowned and strained his Divine Consciousness forward.
Ahead lay a vast giant Clearing filled with numerous rectangular Small Pools closely packed together—almost every three feet there was one. Each Small Pool was filled with water that occasionally rippled as if something lurked beneath the surface. There were estimated to be no less than over a hundred thousand Small Pools. The Clearing resembled a gigantic flat Honeycomb.
Almost ten miles before reaching the Clearing, those monsters began to vanish; it was evident this area was artificially created. It seemed these Honeycomb-like structures frightened those monsters away; they absolutely dared not approach this place.
The team halted as Du Yizi listened carefully and whispered: "There are no people here. We can proceed but remain vigilant."
Everyone concealed their presence and slowly approached that vast Strange honeycomb-like Clearing. As they got closer, the intense Blood Scent grew stronger—so strong that everyone almost believed they had arrived at the legendary Blood Pool.
Upon closer inspection, everyone's eyes widened in shock; it truly was a Blood Pool!
In the darkness, throughout the entire vast Clearing were numerous Small Pools filled with thick liquid that rippled ominously and emitted a foul stench—it was indeed thick human blood!
A small pool of blood was filled with countless drops, and something was moving beneath the surface.
Li Hong thought for a moment, then unfastened the Dragon Tail Whip from his waist. He extended the whip's tip into the pool and made a sweeping motion, pulling up a pale object covered in blood.
Under the dim light, everyone could see clearly that it was a corpse!
The corpse was tall, with thick blood dripping down from it. Its long hair hung wetly down its back, and its head drooped lifelessly. There was a fist-sized hole in its abdomen, through which something could be seen stretching and contracting, as if it were breathing, seemingly alive. As this thing moved, a faint strange energy circulated through the corpse's veins.
Li Hong immediately recognized it: a Walking Corpse! So this was how Walking Corpses were created!
Lingyi emerged from his body and aimed for the hole in the corpse's abdomen.
Before Du Yizi could stop him, a piercing shriek echoed out. Lingyi pulled out a grayish-white object from the corpse's belly.
This object resembled a limbless infant, grayish-white and slick with mucus and blood. It had no facial features, only a strange half-foot-long pointed beak. Clearly uncomfortable after being pulled from the dead body, it emitted a sharp screech and struggled violently.
"Kill it quickly!" several voices urged simultaneously.
With a thought, Lingyi turned it into a pile of meat paste that plopped into the Blood Pool.
Li Hong tossed the corpse back into the Blood Pool, blood splattering everywhere. Everyone could smell not only the Blood Scent but also a faint medicinal odor mixed in.
This Blood Pool contained not only human blood but also medicine.
"The Demon Sect monsters are here!" Shooting Jade Fairy suddenly turned around; her stunning face transformed as her bright seductive eyes elongated and turned green, revealing her true form.
Li Hong whispered, "Everyone disperse and conceal yourselves. Observe the newcomers before taking action."
The area surrounding the clearing was filled with countless stone peaks, making it easy to hide. The group spread out around their center, concealing themselves behind the stone formations while focusing their gaze to the north.
About twenty black-clad figures flew in formation. These individuals wore the signature attire of the Demon Sect—black hooded cloaks—and in the dim light, they resembled a swarm of bats. Their cultivation levels were not low, all above Mid-Stage of Transformation. However, compared to the Beast Cultivation army, they were hardly enough to fill gaps. It seemed they had been drawn here by the shriek of the monster that Li Hong had just eliminated.
They flew closer and closer, skimming over a large Blood Pool, each holding a six-foot-long pole with a grappling hook at the end. Occasionally, they would stop to stir the pole in a Blood Pool, fishing out a Walking Corpse to inspect before putting it back.
It seemed these individuals were the daily caretakers of the Walking Corpses.
As they reached the edge of the Blood Pool and Clearing, the Demons did not notice anything unusual until one of them suddenly pointed at the recently destroyed Blood Pool and whispered in shock, "The Demon Servant inside is dead!"
With a rustle of garments, they all gathered around to retrieve the Walking Corpse for inspection.
Sister Sheyu wanted to take action, but Li Hong silently gestured for her to wait.
The Demons murmured, "Strange, the Demon Infant actually crawled out and died on its own. No wonder there was such a commotion earlier. Forget it, let's take this corpse away and dispose of it; we need to replace it and continue raising more. The major halls have been in urgent need lately; we can't waste a single pool."
They cleaned up that Blood Pool, scooping up the so-called "Demon Infant" remains along with the corpse into a net before flying north again.
Once they had flown far enough away, Li Hong communicated with Du Yizi, saying, "Leave some people to destroy the Blood Pool; let's follow them and see what happens."
"How do we destroy it?" Du Yizi hesitated while looking at the countless Blood Pools. "I'm afraid it will make too much noise."
"That Demon just mentioned that the major halls are in urgent need lately; let's cut off their supply. I have something here; we can blow it to smithereens! If it makes noise, so be it; this time we're going all out. We'll intercept the enemy while the others set off the explosions." Li Hong was well-prepared and pulled out large quantities of Fire Glaze, handing them out in handfuls.
The Fire Glaze sparkled brightly, and at that moment, Chu Xi's face flashed through his mind.
Soon enough, an entire box of Fire Glaze was distributed. Li Hong took a breath; there was still a small box reserved for emergencies that couldn't be used yet.
After making plans, Li Hong, Du Yizi, and Jiang Xuanzi took fifty of the most skilled Beast Cultivator Elders with them to intercept the enemy while leaving the rest to Shooting Jade Fairy.
Both groups immediately sprang into action.
With a loud bang, explosions erupted one after another. Debris flew across the Clearing as blood flowed everywhere. Countless Blood Pools were affected simultaneously, filling the air with a nauseating stench. Walking Corpses were blown into the sky, limbs flying in all directions. Some parasitic Demon Infants were killed instantly while others surprisingly emerged from the ruptured bellies of Walking Corpses, jumping around on the ground with incredible speed while emitting piercing shrieks from their sharp mouths.
Movement was immediately detected from the north as a dark mass of Demons swiftly approached like ominous clouds.
Li Hong wasted no time and revealed the Spirit Five Elements Shuttle, charging directly into the group of Demons. Behind him were Du Yizi, Jiang Xuanzi, Ying Zhaozi, and others.
Blood splattered everywhere, and screams echoed in his ears one after another as the Spirit Five Elements Shuttle swiftly harvested lives.
This group of Demons were merely the everyday servants guarding the Blood Pool, at most at the late stage of Transmutation. However, their late-stage Transmutation was nothing compared to Li Hong's Mid-Stage of Transformation. Li Hong's Divine Consciousness was already equivalent to an old monster at the Nascent Soul Stage, and he had formed ten Golden Pills. In other words, Li Hong's previous kill of an Early Stage of Nascent Soul Demon was not a fluke; he truly had that strength. At this moment, Li Hong was simultaneously commanding Lingyi and the Five Elements Shuttle while continuously releasing Corpse Collection Bottles to collect the Golden Pills of the Demons that fled after death. His precision was astonishing.
As for Jiang Xuanzi and the others, they were true old monsters steeped in millennia of cultivation; killing these Core Formation Stage Demons was like cutting chives. Wherever they charged, Demons were left in bloody pieces. The sound of explosions roared behind them.
Suddenly, Jiang Xuanzi and Du Yizi raised their heads in unison.
"Who dares to intrude into Fengdu Temple! Such audacity!" A strange roar echoed. The Divine Consciousness pierced through everyone's eardrums indiscriminately.
The remaining low-level Demons from the Demon Sect clutched their heads and screamed tragically. Suddenly, a rain of blood fell as one Demon’s head exploded on its own.
The eerie roar reverberated across the entire Blood Pool Clearing, with energy never ceasing.
Li Hong's eardrums buzzed. A formidable enemy! His eyes unconsciously narrowed.
