As they flew halfway up the mountain, everyone began to feel something unusual. The air was thick with moisture, carrying a damp, decaying smell. Gradually, water started to ooze from the soil and exposed rocks. This water was extremely strange, a thick green color resembling mashed wild vegetable juice, flowing in sticky streams among the bizarre trees.
Everyone slowed down.
As they flew lower, their expressions changed. The jungle ahead was filled with green mist, swirling like ghosts in clusters among the trees, rising even higher than the tops of those strange trees.
Chu Huai, flying at the front, stopped and waved to signal everyone, saying, "Hold your breath! It's Toxic Miasma!"
Li Hong felt speechless and looked up at the sky. Why did they have to pass through the jungle? Wouldn't it be better to fly higher and drop directly into the Basin? With that thought in mind, he immediately soared above the treetops.
Chu Xi, Chuxiong, and Hui Feng quickly followed.
Chu Huai's expression darkened as he was about to express his frustration when he saw Chuxuan and Chu Liang also following Li Hong up into the air. In an instant, he was left alone. He hurriedly followed them up, suppressing his displeasure and smiling at everyone, saying, "What Chu Hong did just now was right; I was too slow to react."
Li Hong chuckled lightly and pointed downward.
From up high, it was hard to see clearly; he initially thought the Basin was filled with green trees. Now that they were closer, he realized that the layers of green below were not trees at all but dense clusters of thick green Toxic Miasma that refused to disperse. In some areas, there were wisps of slowly writhing black gas, resembling countless poisonous snakes squirming.
Chu Huai gasped in shock. "What is this thing?"
"I don't know," Li Hong replied thoughtfully while stroking his chin. "The only way to find out is to go down there and take a look." He turned to Chu Huai with a faint smile on his lips. "So, what do you think? Should you go or should I?"
A flash of panic crossed Chu Huai's eyes, but he feigned seriousness and said, "Our cultivation levels are similar. How about this: let the junior disciples choose one of us to go down. Regardless of whether we find anything or not, we must return within the time it takes for a stick of incense to burn. If it takes longer, the poison will seep into our skin." He turned to Chuxuan and the others. "Who do you think should go down between me and Chu Hong?"
"No need for nominations; I'll go," Li Hong said with a mocking smile on his face. He raised a hand to stop Chu Xi from voicing her objections and transmitted a message to her: "Don't worry; I have the Fire Separation Pearl with me. Water and fire cannot harm me; the Toxic Miasma can't affect me at all. Just let Chuxiong know."
With that said, Li Hong plunged down without hesitation.
Hui Feng finally couldn't help but exclaim. This ice-cold fairy was no longer calm for the first time.
********
The moment Li Hong plunged into the Toxic Miasma, a thought crossed his mind, and a massive amount of Awareness surged from the Upper Dantian. The viscous liquid Awareness at the center of the Upper Dantian suddenly began to operate rapidly around the Fake Dan, and a layer of light golden mist rose from Li Hong's body, enveloping him like a shroud.
Those behind him only caught a glimpse of a flash of golden light before Li Hong's figure vanished into the dense green.
All around was thick green, so dense that nothing could be seen. Li Hong lightly tapped his toes, and with a shift of his mind, Lingyi immediately slowed down.
Two Colorful Light Tentacles extended from Li Hong's Upper Dantian Purple Palace, probing the surroundings as they searched for a path.
The Colorful Light Tentacles had undergone significant changes, with numerous light golden spots mixed among the vibrant colors—this was due to Li Hong's own Awareness being intertwined within. With a high proportion of Awareness, the current Colorful Light Tentacles were more sensitive than before, almost like extensions of Li Hong's own hands and eyes.
However, Li Hong found it somewhat amusing; if someone could see these two tentacles at that moment, they would think he resembled a giant squid, constantly waving two long tentacles adorned with numerous golden spots as he explored ahead and behind.
Gradually, that faint familiar aura became increasingly distinct. Suddenly, his body felt lighter, and at the same time, the Colorful Light Tentacles had spotted something.
With a jolt of his spirit, the light golden spots of Awareness quickly retreated back to the Upper Dantian Purple Palace, hovering in the green mist in astonishment. He finally understood why this place was called the Ancient Celestial Field.
The entire Basin, beneath the thick Toxic Miasma, was filled with small patches of medicinal fields. Above each patch floated Restrictions, resembling giant soap bubbles covering them, completely isolating the dense Toxic Miasma outside while leaving the flowers and plants inside unaffected.
Though referred to as medicinal fields, it was evident that many years ago someone had carefully tended to this place. Now, although it appeared neglected, the general layout remained intact. Man-made ditches divided the medicinal fields into a grid pattern, with strange viscous green water flowing slowly through them from the mountains. As it reached the central area, it noticeably diminished, most seeping into the soil. This green water seemed to be very fertile. Most of the flowers and plants that Li Hong observed were thriving and still full of vitality; only a few appeared somewhat withered and might need human care.
The faint familiar sensation emanated from the central area of the large medicinal fields. Li Hong tried to be cautious not to touch those transparent soap bubble-like Restrictions, slowly gliding along one patch after another toward the center.
Unintentionally, he noticed that the soil in the medicinal fields seemed unusual.
Restrictions is transparent, with a faint iridescent glow on its surface. Through Restrictions, the soil beneath can be seen, a thick green color resembling viscous green water, but within the green, there are tiny Multicolored Dots.
Multicolored crystals! Supreme Celestial Stone! The soil here is actually mixed with fragments of Supreme Celestial Stone! Li Hong realized this and quickened his pace toward the center.
Soon he felt the source of the familiar aura.
In the center of this Basin, there is a massive square stone that rises two feet above the ground. The stone, about ten feet in diameter, is engraved with some kind of formation, radiating outward like a wheel, with beams of five Iridescence rays entering the ground from this formation and spreading throughout the entire Basin. The Restrictions above this large stone are even stronger, so much so that as Li Hong flew closer, he felt an extreme sense of danger.
The stone setting up the formation looked extremely familiar. Li Hong took out from his “Cosmic Bag” the type of accompanying Supreme Celestial Stone he had found in the Nine Li Sect Underground cave. Comparing the two, he immediately confirmed that the stone setting up the formation was indeed this black, ink-like Black Stone he held in his hand.
The grooves formed by the formation patterns carved into the Black Stone were embedded with pieces of Supreme Celestial Stone. The dense Multicolored Spiritual Energy still emanated through the powerful Restrictions.
The source of that familiar feeling was right here! Li Hong suddenly focused his gaze.
So that's how it is! It must have been many years ago that someone set up such a cave specifically for growing various immortal herbs, and they arranged numerous Restrictions to protect these herbs. All the nutrients provided for the herbs and maintaining the Restrictions were all from Supreme Celestial Stone. No wonder he felt an extremely familiar sensation even outside the passageway.
Li Hong pondered deeply at this point. How strange. As far as he knew, while Supreme Celestial Stone, Complete Elements, and Immortal Sect were unknown to him, within the entire Nine Li Sect, only he needed this kind of crystalized Multicolored Light Dots when cultivating. However, it was clear that whoever set up this cave was more familiar with Supreme Celestial Stone than he was. The Supreme Celestial Stone could cultivate immortal herbs, set up Restrictions, and even continue to operate automatically thousands or tens of thousands of years later. He realized he knew nothing about these functions.
Does this mean that the Ancient Celestial Field has some connection to him? Or does it imply that the Ancient Celestial Field has some relation to the Ancient Divine Being who originally created the “Six Spirit Salty Ritual”?
Li Hong took out a thumb-sized Supreme Celestial Stone from his “Cosmic Bag” and held it in his hand, feeling that familiar surge of Spiritual Energy, lost in thought.
He did not notice that many small Multicolored Light Dots flew out from the Supreme Celestial Stone. Even through the Restrictions, these light dots were still attracted by that formation, slowly flying toward the transparent soap bubble-like Restrictions. When they touched the surface of the Restrictions, it slightly trembled, and suddenly those light dots directly passed through the Restrictions, flying straight to above the formation and disappearing into its grooves.
More and more Multicolored Light Dots flew out from the Supreme Celestial Stone in Li Hong's hand toward the Restrictions, gradually forming a thin band of Iridescence.
As soon as Li Hong noticed this extraordinary scene, a bold idea emerged in his mind.
With a thought, Awareness immediately spread across his right palm, where a thumb-sized Supreme Celestial Stone rested. Li Hong carefully brought his right hand close to the transparent Restrictions, cautiously extending a finger.
The finger felt as if it were passing through a muddy pit, but the heavy sensation at the tip quickly vanished. It worked! Li Hong was overjoyed and even more carefully began to slowly push his right hand into the Restrictions. Soon, his entire palm passed through.
He decided to spread Awareness throughout his body and took out a larger Supreme Celestial Stone from the Cosmic Bag, starting with his feet. His two feet entered first, followed by his legs, then his waist. Finally, he bit down hard and charged in completely.
His chest tightened as if he were squeezing out of muck, and then he realized he had entered the Restrictions. The square Black Stone inscribed with formations was right before his eyes.
Ha ha, it worked! Li Hong laughed excitedly and jumped onto the Black Stone to begin observing the formation patterns.
This formation was incredibly powerful; it had been operating on its own for countless years. He needed to trace this pattern and memorize it.
He quickly retrieved a special silver paper from the Cosmic Bag and began to sketch the formation pattern meticulously while quietly committing it to memory.
The formation was not complex; it resembled a circular wheel with radiating lines. The grooves were about a finger deep, embedded with Supreme Celestial Stones. After so many years, it seemed that the Supreme Celestial Stones had been significantly depleted, now only half a finger's depth remained.
After memorizing the pattern, Li Hong began to study what this formation was actually used for.
Each small herb garden had its own separate Restrictions, and here it seemed to be a formation providing energy for all the Restrictions in this Basin. Li Hong immediately thought of a similar formation in the Nine Li Sect, but that one was a Spirit Gathering Array; this formation should be called the Scattering Spirit Array.
He did not destroy this Restrictions but flew out and replicated the process to enter an adjacent herb garden for observation.
This herb garden was closest to the central Scattering Spirit Array and should logically cultivate the most precious celestial herbs.
Here grew a strange deep red grass covering about half an acre. Having previously farmed and hunted for a living, Li Hong had some knowledge of cultivation. In his view, this deep red celestial grass had barely survived due to lack of care for a long time; it might be usable in medicine but would surely have poor efficacy. The grass color resembled congealed blood, each plant having nine leaves, with several topped by small dry crimson fruits.
Walking to the center of the Crimson Herb patch, he indeed found a small Black Stone there, inscribed with yet another pattern. Li Hong once again took out special silver paper from the Cosmic Bag to trace and memorize this formation pattern, naming it the Isolation Protection Array. He carelessly sketched the Crimson Herb as well, noting its location of discovery. He pulled out several White Jade Boxes and carefully stored several whole plants inside while placing the fruits in another White Jade Box for safekeeping.
It is said that only this exquisite White Jade Box can preserve herbs for a long time.
This is also the additional task given to him by the Spirit Stone—collect any celestial herbs he sees. Entering the Ancient Celestial Field, he fears this may be the only opportunity; if he doesn't collect now, he might miss out! Li Hong's Cosmic Bag contains several large carts of White Jade Boxes, specifically provided by the Spirit Stone for storing celestial herbs.
He suspects that the entire stock of White Jade Boxes in the Nine Li Sect is in his Cosmic Bag.
Next, Li Hong buzzes around the entire Basin herb garden like a diligent little bee, happily collecting herbs. He laughs wildly while gathering—he wonders if those unaware of Heavenly Grain would be devastated upon learning this.
Amidst his uncontrollable laughter, Li Hong soon realizes a major issue: the White Jade Boxes cannot be used this way! If each box only holds one herb, and there are still dozens of herb fields to explore, what will he use to store them later? He can only regretfully squat down to reorganize, merging all the boxes containing a single type of herb together. Finally, he manages to free up some more White Jade Boxes.
He continues to ponder, reminding himself not to repeat the story of the bear that tries to gather corn when he runs out of boxes in the future.
As he keeps working away, he loses track of time until it gets dark.
Seeing that it’s about time, Li Hong prepares to find Chu Xi and their group. As he stands up, he notices that the thick green Toxic Miasma outside the Restrictions has thinned considerably. What was once like a dense fog where nothing could be seen now allows him to see the stars in the sky. At the same time, he hears strange and loud Beast Roars coming from the mountainside.
Startled, Li Hong quickly flies out on his sword.
