In the small living room on the first floor of the Green Pavilion, Li Hong, Chu Xi, and Chuxiong sat in a circle, looking at each other in a daze.
After a while, Li Hong scratched his head and asked Heavenly Torch, "Are you sure?"
Heavenly Torch seemed to be grinning widely as he replied, "Absolutely sure! You've gathered all the herbs. Just find a pot, boil it for half an hour, and drink it down after reducing three bowls of water to one!"
Li Hong felt quite helpless. "Your bones are so big; how could three bowls of water possibly reduce to one! And why do I have to drink it? Didn't you say you would drink it? Just thinking about your stinky bones from ten thousand years ago in there makes me…"
Chu Xi jumped up and shouted, "Stop talking! That's too disgusting!"
Heavenly Torch smirked, "You have to help with this little task! From now on, don’t say you can’t drink a bowl of medicine. For you, I would go through fire and water without batting an eye! Besides, I didn’t ask you to boil that tailbone into it; just cut off a piece and put it in. Don’t worry; hurry up and brew the medicine!"
Chuxiong glanced at Chu Xi and added fuel to the fire, "Forget it; consider it sending off a plague god. The sooner the better. You guys sit tight; I'm quite familiar with Brother Chef in the kitchen. I'll go get a pot right now."
Li Hong let out a puff of frustration.
The medicine was ready—thick and black in a large bowl, smelling like glue for shoe soles with a strange odor, still steaming with faint black vapor. Chu Xi and Chuxiong pinched their noses and kept their distance, looking at Li Hong with a heroic gaze reminiscent of the cold winds of the Yi River.
Li Hong steeled himself to lift the bowl to his nose. Just as he closed his eyes and was about to drink, he heard Heavenly Torch shout, "Not now! Did you forget? You have to drink it inside the Li Fire Formation! At least at the entrance!"
Li Hong immediately erupted in anger. This whole mess started with him being tricked into thinking he was drinking this medicine; now it was his turn to actually drink it. He had already agreed but now had to go into the Li Fire Formation to do so. How long would this go on? He was so furious he almost wanted to throw the medicine away.
"Li Hong… Brother Li Hong, please, just help me this once, the last time…" Heavenly Torch immediately softened his tone, but his inflection made Li Hong's hair stand on end.
He raised a hand and said, "Stop! I’m scared of you." Heavenly Torch was overjoyed until he heard Li Hong continue seriously, "But if you make any more requests like this in the future, I absolutely won’t agree. This really is the last time. I don’t like putting my life in the hands of someone who lies to me. Would you be willing if you were in my shoes?"
Heavenly Torch was taken aback. He realized he had gone too far and stammered, "I was just afraid you wouldn’t agree that I told a little lie…"
"I won’t go back on my word once I’ve promised you something. But this is only for this time!" Li Hong declared firmly.
He poured the medicine into a bottle and stored it in his Cosmic Bag before bidding farewell to Chu Xi and Chuxiong. He set off alone to find Yun Jiuzi for help entering the Li Fire Formation.
Upon hearing Li Hong's request, Yun Jiuzi pondered for a long time with an unfriendly expression. Li Hong knew that Yun Jiuzi harbored murderous intent towards Heavenly Torch because of him and explained, "This is something I promised to do for him; just consider helping me."
Yun Jiuzi sighed deeply and said, "Since you've made your decision, I won't stop you. But tell that old dragon that if he causes any more trouble next time, I'll find a way that neither harms you nor spares him from fear."
His tone was calm, yet it sent chills down Heavenly Torch's spine. He hurriedly swore, a long string of extremely terrifying and vicious words flowing out without him even blinking. Li Hong had to sever Divine Consciousness once again.
Now, Li Hong felt a twinge of regret. Was it really such a grave mistake to allow Heavenly Torch to inhabit his body? The thought left him feeling somewhat disheartened.
Yun Jiuzi grabbed Li Hong's arm, and before Li Hong could even react with his sword, his body was lifted into the air. After the initial surprise faded, he felt immense envy; Yun Jiuzi's Skyward Technique was simply extraordinary, far surpassing the Wind Control Technique that could be cultivated at the Golden Core Stage. He couldn't help but wonder when he would reach such a level.
"Well, if you like it, I'll pass on my master's unique Skyward Technique to you. You can't cultivate it right now, so just remember the incantation for now; once your cultivation reaches the required level, you can practice it yourself," Yun Jiuzi said, transmitting a segment of the incantation.
Li Hong repeated it three times and memorized it.
"Good memory!" Yun Jiuzi laughed heartily, increasing his speed.
Those below only saw a flash of yellow light dart past. Those who recognized the source of the yellow light couldn't help but stop and look up in awe, saying, "Yun Jiuzi, Great-Granduncle is out again..."
In the blink of an eye, Li Hong found himself at the back mountain of Nine Separation Peak. Wasn't this place forbidden? He immediately spotted a solitary pavilion halfway up the mountain.
Just as he was about to ask a question, he realized he had already landed inside the pavilion.
Yun Jiuzi stood with his hands behind his back, gazing at the distant mountains. He said calmly, "This is one of the exits of the Li Fire Formation. I have broken the Restrictions; those outside cannot see inside. You can rest assured and take your medicine."
At that moment, Yun Jiuzi's demeanor left Li Hong in awe; he seemed to look down upon the world while also walking leisurely in a garden without any pretense—so natural that it was captivating. He suddenly had a thought: perhaps Heavenly Danzi from years ago possessed such grace as well? After all, Yun Jiuzi was his only disciple, and their bearing was strikingly similar.
His mood improved; as a man, why fuss over taking medicine? He pulled out the bottle from his Cosmic Bag and laughed heartily, "I toast you with this medicine as if it were wine!" With that, he downed it in one go.
Yun Jiuzi turned to him with a gentle smile, his expression warm and kind as if meeting an old friend.
Such camaraderie is rare! Li Hong felt invigorated and was about to mimic Yun Jiuzi's gesture to point at Jiu Li Nation when suddenly a sharp pain twisted in his stomach. He doubled over, clutching his belly, his face turning pale.
With a thud, Li Hong collapsed to the ground and fainted on the spot.
Yun Jiuzi sighed: "For Dragon Soul Gathering, it's not that simple. Master, even after reincarnation, you are still too kind-hearted. Well then, I will resolve this issue for you."
Yun Jiuzi's short sleeves began to swell without wind. He lifted Li Hong and positioned him into a sitting posture with his legs together. Yun Jiuzi sat in front of him and suddenly pointed at Li Hong's forehead.
A beam of yellow light instantly penetrated Li Hong's Upper Dantian. Inside the Fire Separation Pearl, Heavenly Torch screamed in terror: "Who is messing around?!"
Yun Jiuzi's sleeves swelled more and more, his eyes tightly shut, and the flesh on his face gradually swelled in a strange manner, making his entire face appear rounder. His finger trembled violently as it pointed at Li Hong's forehead and Upper Dantian, the yellow light gradually thickening, enveloping Li Hong's entire head.
...
After an unknown amount of time, a soft sound was heard as Yun Jiuzi's inflated garments shrank back, tightly adhering to his body.
Yun Jiuzi slowly withdrew his finger, beads of sweat already visible on his forehead. He lowered his head in contemplation and said, "Strange... Could it be... Never mind, this might be the old dragon's opportunity. I shall go with the flow of fate."
He stood up, stamping his feet, and a dark hole appeared in the center of the pavilion. He coldly said, "Aren't you going to act quickly?"
The Heavenly Torch inside the Fire Separation Pearl was already terrified beyond measure. Upon hearing this, it felt as if it had been granted a reprieve. Not knowing what actions he had taken, it suddenly saw several flames rush through the hole and into Li Hong's body. Li Hong's forehead glimmered slightly before returning to normal in the blink of an eye.
Yun Jiuzi stamped his foot again, and the hole immediately closed silently. He bent down to pick up Li Hong and jumped out of the pavilion.
A beam of yellow light swiftly ascended into the sky.
Li Hong awoke five days later.
