Fire Mouse, a low-level spirit beast, is unafraid of fierce flames and is a treasure all over, especially its long fur, which is a precious material for Fire Weaving Cloth. The Fire Rat Robe made from it is resistant to fire and impervious to blades and axes; it does not require washing and becomes cleaner and whiter the more it burns. Wearing just a thin layer of it, one can walk barefoot in the icy cold of winter without fear of the chill. In the heat of summer, it naturally provides relief from the heat.
A single Fire Rat Robe is worth a fortune in the Mortal Realm, with high demand but low supply, making it extremely rare. Historical records indicate that only Shi Chong deliberately had a Servant wear one to compete in wealth with nobles.
Thinking of this legend, Li Hong couldn't help but chuckle. Could it be that Shi Chong was once a Steward Disciple of the Nine Li Sect? Otherwise, how could he have obtained a Fire Rat Robe? However, legends are surely exaggerated; within the Nine Li Sect, even the Elders each possess only one. Even if Shi Chong were indeed a disciple of the outer sect, he could not have acquired so many; there must have been counterfeit products involved.
The large group of Fire Mice before him has thrived in the Nine Li Sect for countless generations. Naturally, Fire Mice despise being manipulated by humans and cherish their long fur. They possess some innate abilities that make them resistant to drugs, blades, fire, and water. Attempting to cut their long fur for fire weaving cloth requires considerable effort. Therefore, the Nine Li Sect does not easily provoke them, allowing them to thrive freely in this area, which has only made their tempers grow.
Now, however, Li Hong continuously provokes them, repeatedly practicing his Beast Taming Technique on the group of Fire Mice, inciting the Fire Mouse King into a furious rage.
When Li Hong once again employed his Beast Taming Technique, the Fire Mouse King could no longer contain itself and forcefully kicked out a large individual it had always found displeasing. It twisted its body as a faint red glow appeared on its surface—showing that it was unafraid of Li Hong's current use of the technique. Cautiously, it maneuvered around to sneak up beside Li Hong, accompanied by a few similarly capable companions, hoping to strike when he let his guard down.
As Li Hong used his Beast Taming Technique again and summoned that large Fire Mouse, he was utterly baffled—logically speaking, his technique should affect all within its range indiscriminately. Anyone within his call would automatically come to him—he had not yet reached the level where he could summon any specific spirit beast at will.
The large Fire Mouse, feeling awkward and displeased, limped back over with its bleeding leg. Upon seeing it again, Li Hong was stunned; as he relaxed his focus, the large mouse turned tail and limped back into the forest.
Suddenly, there was movement from the Core of the Earth, and a hot wind rushed toward him. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of several lightning-fast white figures lunging at him.
"Li Hong! You seek death!" he shouted.
With determination, he unleashed his Lingyi, sending an iridescent flash toward the particularly large Fire Mouse, which was surrounded by a faint red glow.
Just as he was about to strike, he suddenly remembered—it must be the Fire Mouse King. He needed to hold back!
His intent shifted as he adjusted his aim; the attack grazed against the fur of the Fire Mouse King. Despite this adjustment, the sword energy still sliced through its plump body. The resilient mystical fur saved its life by blocking most of the attack; however, its flesh beneath still suffered injury. The pain caused tears to stream from the eyes of the Fire Mouse King, which no longer dared to trouble Li Hong. It turned and fled. The companions witnessing this were equally alarmed and quickly followed suit as they vanished from sight.
Amused, Li Hong continued practicing his Beast Taming Technique. With thousands of Fire Mice available as practice targets now, even the once-defiant Fire Mouse King dared not make a sound and obediently complied.
In the following days, Li Hong became addicted to practicing the Beast Taming Technique. The large group of Fire Mice was perfect for practice, and gradually he became more adept at the technique, developing new ideas and changes.
Before using the Beast Taming Technique, he would release Colorful Light Tentacles to thoroughly assess the situation of the Fire Mice. Then he would use the Beast Taming Technique to target a specific one he intended to summon. This way, even if the Fire Mouse King wanted to interfere, it would be unable to do so.
As a result, this poor Fire Mouse King could only watch in frustration as its beloved wives were summoned and played with by Li Hong. It was so enraged that it would bang its head against the ground and sweep its tail against trees, but it couldn't compete with Li Hong. It cried bitterly, feeling helpless.
One morning, everyone at Nine Li Sect witnessed an unusual sight that they would never normally see. A large group of Fire Mice ran wildly through the Nine Li Sect mountains in broad daylight, trampling everything in their path, their bodies shining brightly.
Li Hong was unaware of this commotion. After having breakfast, he excitedly headed to Ghost Stream Mountain and extended his Colorful Light Tentacles forward.
To his surprise, the entire mountain was empty! All the large Fire Mice, small Fire Mice, Fire Mouse King, and its wives had disappeared, leaving only hundreds of tiny Fire Mouse pups crawling around in their nest.
He scratched his head and chuckled, realizing that he had scared the Fire Mice away. He thought it best to let them rest for a few days while feeding the little ones and decided to come back another day for practice. Cheerfully humming a mountain tune, he flew back to Nine Vermilion Peaks.
In the Dining Hall, everyone was discussing the morning's spectacle.
Li Hong pretended not to notice and finished his bowl of porridge. After pushing his bowl aside, he told Chuxiong that he was done eating and decided to find Chu Xia Girl to chat. Just as he stepped out of the Dining Hall, he saw a large group of people flying toward Nine Vermilion Peaks. The leader looked like a wall of flesh; it was none other than Elder Yue Mangzi from the Disciplinary Hall.
Li Hong was startled. Could they have figured out that he was behind this? He thought it impossible; Fire Mice couldn't talk or snitch on him! He kept his composure and quickly walked toward Mountain Green Pavilion.
After taking a few steps, the group descended from the sky. Elder Yue Mangzi's small eyes turned as he spotted Li Hong slipping into Three-Story Pavilion. He immediately shouted Li Hong's name: "Chu Hong! Stop right there!"
Li Hong had no choice but to come out and put on a smile. "Elder, what do you need from me?"
"Hmph! You know very well what you've done. Come with me to the Disciplinary Hall! With the Spirit Stone missing, you Disciples of Jiu Zhu Peak have caused trouble time and again. Your Eighth Disciple is still in confinement, and you, as the Sixth Senior Brother, are eager to join him. So be it!" Yue Mangzi shouted loudly.
Li Hong's mind raced. Could it be that the Fire Mouse really spoke and snitched? Absolutely impossible! He was determined to deny it and replied sternly, "Elder, you jest. The Eighth Disciple is the Eighth Disciple, and I am I. I have not committed any violations of the Rules of the Sect. Please clarify, Elder."
"I knew you would deny it!" Yue Mangzi sneered, extending his arm forward. Suddenly, a blue bird the size of a pigeon flew in from nowhere and landed on Yue Mangzi's outstretched arm. The bird leisurely preened its feathers, its neck held high, and its crimson beak opened to emit a series of melodious calls, like water flowing over stones, sounding extremely pleasant.
However, Li Hong felt a chill run down his spine as he recalled what his senior brother Chuming had said—the Common Azure Bird, Yue Mangzi's eyes and ears; he raised a whole flock of them.
This was simply a bird spy!
"Hmph, my Common Azure Bird has seen everything. The riot of the Fire Mouse was entirely caused by you!" Yue Mangzi waved his arm and shouted at the disciples following him from the Disciplinary Hall, "Don't just stand there! Take him back to the Disciplinary Hall for punishment!"
Li Hong was instantly furious. This spy bird chirped twice, and while you understood what it said, I couldn't make sense of it!
He shouted, "Wait! Just because this wretched bird chirped twice does not mean I'm guilty! Let's discuss this—who among you understands what this bird is saying?"
When the Chief Elder of Punishment arrived with his followers, many people were stirred up, including several senior Master Uncles like Ling Panzai. The Common Azure Bird was a prized spirit beast of Chief Elder of Punishment Yue Mangzi; everyone in Nine Li Sect knew this and understood that with this flock of Common Azure Birds, Yue Mangzi's position as Chief Elder of Punishment was unshakeable within the sect.
However, aside from Yue Mangzi himself, no one could understand what the calls of the Common Azure Bird meant.
They exchanged glances, thinking that Li Hong was indeed audacious; however—hmm, he had a point!
Li Hong scanned the crowd and understood their thoughts. Feeling reassured, he stated seriously, "Since only the Elder can understand it, then only you can decide my fate! I am here; I will abide by your judgment!"
The implication was clear: Yue Mangzi could not arbitrarily decide Li Hong's guilt based solely on his own preferences.
Yue Mangzi's face trembled with anger as he pointed at Li Hong and said, "Good, good! This is the first time a disciple from Nine Li Sect has openly accused me. Since you refuse to accept it, I will let you go for now. When I find solid evidence, we'll see how you deny it!"
With a wave of his sleeve, he soared into the sky on his sword. The Common Azure Bird was flung into the air by him. Perhaps it was the first time it had been treated this way; the Common Azure Bird protested loudly for a moment before reluctantly following him.
The people from the Disciplinary Hall hurried to keep up. A large group quickly disappeared into the distance.
The crowd at Nine Vermilion Peaks watched in astonishment, unsure who laughed first, but soon everyone was roaring with laughter. The sound nearly lifted the Three-Story Pavilion into the sky, especially the voice of Chuxiong, which was the loudest.
Ling Panzai spoke up loudly, "Don't laugh! The elder hasn't gone far!"
With that one sentence, everyone immediately fell silent, like cicadas in winter; Yue Mangzi's authority was evident.
Li Hong, however, remained unafraid. What if the Fire Mouse was agitated? He hadn't done anything to them; he was just practicing the Beast Taming Technique. Who knows, one day even that Senior Phoenix might be used for practice!
A sense of pride welled up within him. He bowed respectfully to Ling Panzai and several other Master Uncles before gracefully walking around the Three-Story Pavilion and heading up the mountain.
His back was so rebellious that it faintly exuded an air of a grandmaster.
Ling Panzai watched for a long time until that white figure vanished among the trees. He sighed inwardly; he had only entered the sect for a few years and already possessed such cultivation and mindset. Spirit Stone had a keen eye; this child truly had not been taken in vain.
