The unexpected encounter with this group brought them closer to the bushes where Ye Feng and the Flying Spirit Lion were hiding. Both of them stopped their conversation, holding their breath and trying not to give away any signs of their presence. At that moment, Ye Feng's mind was filled with speculation: was there really a Spellcaster sitting inside that Palanquin?
If so, it would confirm his earlier suspicions that the Rogue Bandits here were not just simple tomb raiders; they might have been stationed here for a long time. If not, it was hard to understand why such an incongruous Palanquin would appear in this location.
However, the situation did not allow Ye Feng to think further! As time passed, the escorting troops carrying the Palanquin quickly reached the same level as Ye Feng's hiding spot, making him even more anxious, his clenched fists drenched in sweat.
Although the Flying Spirit Lion appeared calm on the surface, he was ready to strike first. If they were discovered, he would swiftly eliminate anyone inside the Palanquin, regardless of whether they were a Spellcaster or not; he did not want to take that risk!
The atmosphere was tense and dangerous, yet the escorting troops seemed oblivious to Ye Feng and his companion's presence, moving leisurely without any sense of urgency. Ye Feng guessed that this group's destination was likely not where he had fought earlier.
Perhaps there were more secrets worth investigating!
However, before Ye Feng could analyze further, the troop passed their hiding spot and continued forward, allowing him to gradually relax. The Flying Spirit Lion stood up without regard for being discovered, staring intently at the escorting troops ahead.
"Are you crazy? Doing that will get us seen!" Ye Feng immediately communicated through Vital Energy, reaching out to push him down.
Although the troop was nearly a hundred meters away, and under the moonlight it was unlikely any soldiers would look back, Ye Feng's caution proved to be justified. Just then, Flying Spirit Lion said something that completely stunned him.
"Didn't you notice? The person in the Palanquin has already spotted us. However, they haven't made any move; perhaps they really think we are fleeing Rogue Bandits. I’m not used to hiding like this!" The complexity of Flying Spirit Lion's words left Ye Feng speechless.
What? They’ve already noticed us? Then why hasn’t that person ordered their subordinates to capture us? Even if we were fleeing Rogue Bandits, such sneaky behavior would surely draw criticism!
"This doesn’t make sense. Are you trying to fool me?" Ye Feng communicated through Vital Energy again, still uneasy.
But this time, before Flying Spirit Lion could respond, the marching troops suddenly stopped! Ye Feng was furious and wanted to curse at this exposed fool!
Sky-Soaring Spirit Lion continued unabashedly, "Perhaps I was wrong earlier!"
"Of course! Do you think they’re idiots? How could they notice us and not take action?" Ye Feng snapped back. The advancing troops couldn’t have stopped for no reason; the only explanation was that Flying Spirit Lion’s voice had startled them! This guy was such a liability!
Ye Feng thought to himself... Unfortunately, reality once again exceeded his expectations. The Flying Spirit Lion, with its unique cleverness, seemed to be exhibiting intelligence a hundred times greater than that of humans. It calmly said, "You guessed wrong. There might really be a Spellcaster inside that Palanquin, and that person has no intention of letting us go!"
"From the very beginning, that person intended to run far away before stopping, which would cause us to miss the best opportunity for an ambush. This is also why I chose to reveal myself now but did not take action. Humans are indeed as cunning as ever!"
Upon hearing this, Ye Feng stood there in shock, his body subconsciously rising. He looked at the troops ahead who had come to a halt. Although he was somewhat skeptical of this fellow's speculation, he had already believed it to a large extent!
"Playing with us?"
"Heh heh, you think so?"
The two continued their somewhat humorous exchange for just a few moments when the troops ahead finally turned back!
Eight strong men struggled to carry the Palanquin, slowly turning around. Then, over a hundred Bandits glared at them fiercely, their eyes showing no sign of fear. Despite the fact that the Flying Spirit Lion had already released the aura of the Xuanwu Realm, they still showed no signs of being afraid!
This was quite unusual; how could a group of Rogue Bandits with an average strength of only Yuan Wu Realm Sixth Level possess such courage? Was it truly just because of that one Spellcaster?
"Don't act impulsively later; let's see what they plan to do first. I'm thinking they might not recognize our identities!" Ye Feng said with his last glimmer of hope.
The Flying Spirit Lion looked at him as if he were an idiot but did not say anything further. Ye Feng understood the meaning behind its gaze but couldn't shake off the feeling that the person inside the Palanquin was somewhat different. This difference was certainly not solely due to being a Spellcaster; more importantly, it was an instinct!
"To be fair, I hope you're right, but it seems you're even more naive than I am." After a while, the Flying Spirit Lion broke the silence and said this just as the group of fierce Bandits finally made their next move!
Instead of rushing in all at once, three individuals stepped forward. They didn't seem like they were there to pick a fight; they simply walked over casually and stopped right in front of Ye Feng!
"Our master wants to talk to you," one of them said in an extremely plain tone. Ye Feng looked at this person and listened to their words, feeling that things were becoming increasingly unpredictable!
What did this person intend to do? Were they trying to play tricks to make them lower their guard and then capture them all at once? This seemed like the most reasonable explanation. However, from the eyes of these three individuals, Ye Feng sensed another possibility!
The gazes of these people, when examined closely, were surprisingly hollow and devoid of emotion, as if they were puppets controlled by someone else, no longer possessing normal human feelings. Perhaps this was one reason why they did not fear the powerful realm of the Flying Spirit Lion.
Unable to discern the intentions of the person in the sedan chair, Ye Feng hesitated. At that moment, the Flying Spirit Lion took it upon itself to say, "We won't go over. If your master truly wants to talk to us, let him come here!"
This statement was filled with tension; under normal circumstances, these individuals would have drawn their weapons upon hearing such words. Ye Feng was so taken aback that he couldn't even stop the Flying Spirit Lion from speaking. He was greatly angered and prepared for battle, but something astonishing happened next.
"Wait a moment, I'll report back to my master," one of them said calmly, showing no sign of anger at the Flying Spirit Lion's words and behaving less like a competent subordinate.
As he watched these three return to their ranks, Ye Feng lowered his voice and said, "What are you doing? Can you not act recklessly?"
The Flying Spirit Lion shook its head and replied, "Did you not notice the abnormalities in these people?"
Ye Feng frowned, as if he had caught on to something but still said, "You don't need to point that out. The problem is that by provoking them like this, you've turned a situation that didn't need to escalate into a potential fight! If that person really wanted to attack us, they would have done so already; perhaps there are other unforeseen circumstances at play!"
"I don't know about unforeseen circumstances, but I am certain that something has happened to these people!" the Flying Spirit Lion said with keen eyes.
Ye Feng became even more confused and then asked, "Can't you explain everything clearly at once?"
The Flying Spirit Lion lowered its head and discreetly observed those individuals before saying, "They have all been cursed by that Spellcaster. I don't know what kind of curse it is, but it must have taken away their six senses!"
The six senses refer to hearing, sight, touch, taste, smell, and an additional ethereal sense known as spiritual perception. These six senses govern a person's behavior and moral discernment; one could say that without these senses, a person cannot be considered truly human.
Because they cannot feel any pain or emotional fluctuations, can such beings still be called human?
However, Ye Feng immediately refuted the Flying Spirit Lion's claim. The biggest flaw was that these individuals were not blind or deaf; they could see and hear!
The Sky-Soaring Spirit Lion then continued, "The so-called six senses actually do not include hearing and sight in the context of martial artists; it should refer to emotional perception and intuitive understanding. You should understand the former; the latter is an innate ability humans possess. If I am not mistaken, the Spellcaster inside must be quite formidable!"
"Because only a Spellcaster above the fourth rank can achieve such a feat of taking away human six senses!"
Ye Feng listened to Flying Spirit Lion's words, feeling a sense of shock. Just like the Divination Master, the ranking of a Spellcaster is not solely determined by the martial artist's realm. However, compared to the five stages of a Divination Master, a Spellcaster is also at the Fifth Stage, but the value of each is vastly different!
The Divination Master excels in divination, while the Spellcaster specializes in lethal techniques. Among the entire Divine Martial Continent, there is only one known five-stage Spellcaster, who currently serves in the royal court of the Qin Yuan Empire. As for a four-stage Spellcaster, they are already capable of dominating the world!
In such a place, even if a Spellcaster has zero martial arts cultivation, the talismans they create can easily annihilate a Martial Saint!
Ye Feng felt a chill run down his spine and found it hard to believe Flying Spirit Lion's judgment. It seemed unreasonable that such an unprecedented Spellcaster could have fallen to such a state. No matter where he went, he would receive treatment akin to that of nobles and lords, so why would he become a Rogue Bandit? What a joke!
"It doesn't make sense. Even if he truly is at that level you mentioned, can you tell me why he would strip these people of their six senses?"
Flying Spirit Lion shook his head again. He was far more knowledgeable about these matters than Ye Feng. Just like Xuan Lao in Ye Feng's mind, having lived for so long means he has seen everything and knows all kinds of knowledge!
"Perhaps you don't realize that a person's six senses actually affect their combat ability. If someone's six senses are stripped away, it can greatly reduce their effectiveness as a fighter. However, there are exceptions; anyone who has had their six senses taken away yet still retains normal comprehension abilities must possess limitless potential!"
Ye Feng listened and found it even harder to understand; this guy seemed to be getting more incomprehensible!
Yet Flying Spirit Lion patiently continued, squinting his eyes like Ye Feng: "Without knowing taste or understanding emotions, those without senses are fearless, and those who are fearless possess boundless strength. If these individuals have indeed been stripped of their six senses yet can still function like normal people, then their explosive combat power will not merely reflect their apparent realm!"
"What would that look like?" Ye Feng sensed that what Flying Spirit Lion was about to say would undoubtedly unsettle him, but he still wanted to understand what was going on!
