The heavy rain that had been falling like a barrage of arrows gradually turned into a light drizzle, indicating that the Qin Army's Arrow Formation had begun to show its effectiveness in counterattacking. Luzi, hiding behind a cart to avoid the arrows, lacked significant combat experience with large armies, leading to his oversight in not anticipating that Li Xin would need support.
In his view, the Zhao Army would not be able to detect Li Xin, who was responsible for guiding the Qin Army's Arrow Formation, even though Chuchu was clearly visible within Bastion City. Nevertheless, he remained attentive to the movements on the mountain top.
Noticing no activity at the forward Observation Post, he stood up to call for Soldiers to prepare horses for him to ride up and take a look. Before he could speak, Feng Quji strolled over, seemingly searching for something. Who else could he be looking for at this time? Without needing to ask, Luzi quickly called out, "Old Feng! Stop looking! I have been waiting here for you!"
Earlier that morning, Feng Quji had heard news about Luzi leading a team out of the city late at night. The heavy rain from last night had not let up, so he was unaware of what the Governor was doing outside in such weather.
Worried about the safety of several generals, he rushed out without even washing his face to inquire where Luzi and the others had gone. Just as he stepped outside, he found himself caught in a sudden downpour of Arrow Rain and had no choice but to hide indoors. After waiting for the Arrow Rain outside to ease slightly, he hurriedly mounted his horse and began searching for the generals. He asked around but found no one could answer his question.
The Zhao Army was unleashing a torrent of arrows toward Bastion City, clearly not just playing around. An attack on the city could happen at any moment, yet he couldn't find any generals!
Frustrated by his fruitless search, Feng Quji suddenly heard a familiar voice calling out. He focused his gaze and saw Luzi waving at him from beside a cart. He quickly urged his horse forward and rushed over to the Governor.
Luzi dismounted and immediately asked where Feng Quji had been. "Everyone has been busy all night without sleep, and here you are! Not only looking disheveled but also wandering around!"
Feng Quji jumped off his horse but hadn't spoken yet when Luzi interrupted him. It took him a moment to respond. "My lord! How did you know what I was going to say?"
Luzi casually handed Feng Quji a Long Spear and waited for Soldiers to bring him his warhorse. He mounted swiftly and drew out the Long Spear that had been resting against his saddle. With a quick shake of it in his hand, he felt invigorated and ready. "General Feng! Follow me up the mountain!"
Where was the mountain top?
Looking around at the city’s surroundings, it was clear that only the northern peak of West Rampart was high enough! Beyond that lay the Zhao Army's encampment! Feng Quji initially planned to call more Soldiers to follow him but was moved by the rising aura emanating from Luzi. Gripping his Long Spear tightly, he spurred his horse forward to catch up quickly.
"Lord, the city gates are opening! Move aside!"
With the guard's shout, the gates of Bastion City creaked open as the soldiers pushed with all their might. Two warhorses leaped lightly and exited the gate, arriving outside the city.
Luzi tugged at the reins, pausing to gaze at the mountains shrouded in a light mist, feeling as if he were in a fairyland. He sighed softly and raised his spear to point into the distance. "Look at the Unity of the Realm, so picturesque! How can we allow it to suffer through the ravages of war again? This is our moment to rise in arms while peace still reigns across the land!"
Feng Quji looked at the vibrant mountains surrounding them, a surge of heroism slowly rising within him. The earth was like a painted scroll; it was truly beautiful! How many times in life can one fight? To stand at such a pinnacle today and admire the splendid scenery from above!
"My lord! If only I could stand here every day to watch the Sunrise and Sunset! No longer worrying about the imminent threat of death, nor fearing that I may never return to my homeland!"
Luzi nodded, affirming his steadfast belief. "I believe this is not a distant dream! I believe we will see peace in our lifetime! When that time comes, swords and spears will be put away, and horses will rest in Southern Mountain. We can return to our fields then. At that moment, we can enjoy life without recalling those painful memories. We can quietly watch our crops grow strong and savor the comfort of a peaceful life. Truly, this is one of life's greatest joys!"
Envisioning a bright future, Feng Quji gazed into the distance, and at that moment, it felt as if he could see everything Luzi had described. He suddenly understood what the ultimate goal of heroes in this world was.
This was their aim! They would strive for it their entire lives! The true beauty of life lay in living quietly and being able to enjoy this profound peace during their lifetime!
After the heavy rain, a warm mountain breeze carried with it the scent of fresh earth. The two individuals enjoying a moment of tranquility were enchanted by it; before they could express their thoughts further, they simultaneously caught a whiff of something metallic mixed with the northern wind.
This scent felt out of place in that serene atmosphere and abruptly brought them back to reality. Turning towards where the wind blew from, they spotted Zhao Army Cavalry appearing at the mountaintop.
That position was where Qin Army's Observation Post lay, and that faint metallic scent wafted down from above! Realizing what was happening over there, Luzi and Feng Quji exchanged glances and spurred their horses towards the mountaintop...
The Zhao Army Cavalry squad, having failed to persuade their opponents to surrender, launched another charge. After losing two cavalrymen, they finally surrounded what was clearly a lone Qin General. Seeing that their opponent had no way to retreat, they all urged their horses closer.
Taking advantage of the cover provided by the mountainous forest, Li Xin had just managed to eliminate two cavalrymen. Although the ground was uneven, this terrain did not only affect the rapid movement of the Cavalry. A person's movement speed would also be significantly impacted.
The Cavalry slowly surrounded him from all sides, with sharp spikes of Cold Light occasionally flashing. Realizing there was no way to retreat, Li Xin quietly observed his surroundings, leaning against a tree to prevent being ambushed from behind. He tightened his grip on the longsword in his hand and looked up at the arrows that occasionally flew by, vanishing in an instant.
It seemed like life itself, akin to a shooting star streaking across the sky, leaving no trace behind!
With two more brothers having fallen moments ago, none of the Soldiers surrounding the Qin General had any intention of persuading anyone to surrender. This was the battlefield! As the Soldiers exerted too much force, three long spears instantly embedded themselves into a tree trunk. The target that had just stood before the tree had now vanished without a trace.
"Be careful! He's under your horse! Fall back! Quickly fall back!" The Soldiers who had closed in reminded each other as they withdrew their spears and began stabbing at the target hiding beneath the horse's belly...
