"You are the captain of the Criminal Investigation Team, a beautiful police officer with both beauty and intelligence. It would be a big problem without you; how could it not matter if one person is missing?" Mo Ming chuckled a few times and teased, "I think if the Police Force didn't have you and instead had someone like Liu Vice Captain, that would be a real issue!"
"Alright, you don't need to flatter me. Flattering me won't get you any rewards, so why waste your breath?" Ji Yue said with a helpless expression, shaking her head with a wry smile.
"This isn't flattery; I'm just speaking the truth," Mo Ming shrugged his shoulders. Seeing Ji Yue roll her eyes at him, he smiled and said, "Okay, I won't play with words anymore. Have you found any evidence to prove my innocence?"
"If I couldn't find evidence, you wouldn't be sitting in my office but in the Interrogation Room," Ji Yue replied with a smile. "You reminded me about the crime scene, so I immediately went to check various traffic checkpoints around where He Hong had the incident. The surveillance footage there did not show He Hong at all. Also, you were indeed nearby at that time, but after reviewing the surveillance footage from that night, as you said, after dropping Miss Lin off at her home, you went directly back to Feng Lai Hotel."
"That doesn't really prove I wasn't there; after all, not every road has surveillance cameras. I could have killed He Hong and then returned to Phoenix Grand Hotel. Captain Ji, your evidence seems a bit forced," Mo Ming said meaningfully as he looked into Ji Yue's eyes. He wasn't foolish enough not to defend himself; he knew Ji Yue must have other evidence to prove he wasn't the murderer of He Hong.
"True, that doesn't clarify much. However, He Hong's case is different. His friends' testimonies and the bar's surveillance footage show that half an hour before He Hong's death, he had just left Royal Bar on foot. If he walked to the crime scene, it would take over an hour. The coroner has confirmed that He Hong died half an hour after leaving the bar, which means he definitely didn't walk there," Ji Yue explained patiently.
Mo Ming responded with a smile, "So He Hong must have taken a vehicle. But since he didn't have a car, this means the murderer killed He Hong and then transported his body to the crime scene in a vehicle, right?"
"That's one of the doubts. The most compelling reason proving that He Hong wasn't your victim is that someone deliberately used air conditioning to confuse our judgment about He Hong's time of death. Later on, I had to ask the coroner for help in determining the body’s condition before we confirmed that He Hong's exact time of death was less than ten minutes after leaving the bar!"
Ji Yue looked at Mo Ming's indifferent expression and slowly said, "When these pieces of evidence come together, they can prove that this incident was a deliberate frame-up against you. Although I don't know who this person is, I understand their motive for framing you was to prevent your involvement in what happened last night. Am I right?"
"Hehe, Captain Ji is indeed a woman who lives by her wits; you're absolutely correct. The matter concerning He Hong was merely to tie me up; what happened last night is the real conspiracy."
Mo Ming nodded and smiled, "Actually, I made some mistakes last night; I didn't anticipate that they would act immediately after framing me. Otherwise, I would have gone out directly instead of patiently waiting for evidence."
"What do you mean? Are you saying you wanted to flee from justice?" Ji Yue raised an eyebrow in surprise at Mo Ming's words. To go out without waiting for evidence? That would imply wanting to escape prison; even if it later proved Mo Ming was innocent, just escaping would be enough trouble for him.
Ji Yue couldn't believe Mo Ming would be so foolish; however, his words seemed to imply just that, which left her astonished.
"No, if I wanted to leave, all it would take is a phone call for you all to let me go willingly. Hehe, I'm sure Captain Ji has already sent someone to investigate my background; you should know my history—I'm a retired Special Forces member!" Mo Ming said with a faint smile.
"Yes, I did have someone check your background and learned you're a retired Special Forces member. However, beyond that, I don't know much else. Mo Ming, among the people I know, you're the first one I've found difficult to grasp."
Ji Yue indeed investigated Mo Ming, but aside from finding out that Mo Ming was a retired Special Forces member who had committed a disciplinary offense, there was no further information. The fact that he was a retired Special Forces member was not surprising.
However, what intrigued Ji Yue the most was that Mo Ming's file was completely blank, with no records of when he became a Special Forces member, what missions he had executed, or what disciplinary offenses he had committed.
It is not unusual for a Special Forces member to have secret missions unrecorded, but Ji Yue had connections and still could not find out when Mo Ming had enlisted. It is known that every Special Forces member is an Elite in the military, and there should be records of their activities before joining the special operations unit.
Despite asking several high-ranking friends in the military to investigate, none of them could confirm that anyone became a Special Forces member in their twenties. This made Ji Yue suspicious; Mo Ming's background must be extraordinary, otherwise, how could he have directly become a Special Forces member?
“Captain Ji, you don't need to speculate too much. Tonight I can tell you that my father is also a soldier. I chose to become a soldier to take his place so he could spend more time with my mother. However, some changes occurred that forced me to leave the military,” Mo Ming said with a smile as he noticed Ji Yue's curious gaze.
“Before retiring, I achieved many military honors and received a certificate from Number One. If I ever face any wrongful accusations, I am authorized to seek evidence to prove my innocence!”
“Wow, Mo Ming, you really surprise me. I didn't expect someone your age to receive a certificate approved by Number One. This indicates your accomplishments must be significant, and Number One clearly trusts you,” Ji Yue exclaimed in astonishment before shaking her head with a wry smile. “If that's the case, why didn't you present the certificate last night?”
“That certificate is an honor given to me by Number One. Unless absolutely necessary, I prefer not to use it. Besides, I believe that Captain Ji will help me prove my innocence. Since someone is helping me, why should I seek evidence myself?”
“I kind of regret staying up all night looking for evidence for you,” Ji Yue shrugged and said with a bitter smile.
Mo Ming laughed heartily and replied, “Alright, Captain Ji, I've answered your questions as a sign of gratitude. Out of trust, I've shared these things with you, and I hope you won't disclose them.”
“Don't worry; I'll keep your matters confidential,” Ji Yue nodded and said. “Alright then, Mo Ming, you can leave now. I imagine you have important things to attend to.”
“Indeed, I have matters to handle,” Mo Ming stood up and stretched. “Captain Ji, I assure you that those who disrupt the social stability of Nanhua City will face consequences.”
“While they deserve punishment, if you affect the stability of Nanhua City, I won't let you off either,” Ji Yue said with a natural smile on her face. Although she said this, she had complete faith in Mo Ming's abilities.
“Ha ha! You can rest assured about this; something like what happened with He Hong could never happen to me,” Mo Ming laughed as he exited the police station and saw Lin Yuan'er, Jun Qianqian, and Murong Lian waiting outside.
As soon as they saw Mo Ming, the three women rushed over. Lin Yuan'er hugged him tightly and said with a quivering voice, “Brother Mo, I'm so glad you're okay! They didn't make things difficult for you, did they?”
“Hey! Do I look like someone who has been troubled?” Mo Ming patted Lin Yuan'er on the shoulder and reassured her. “Everything's fine now; I'm free of any charges.”
Jun Qianqian saw Mo Ming safe and sound, a slight smile playing on her lips as she said, "Mo Ming, I'm glad you're okay. If Sister Lian hadn't told me this morning, I wouldn't have known you were in trouble. Hmph, Sister Lian and Yuan'er are really bad friends for not telling me about your situation. That's not how good sisters behave!"
"Qianqian, we were just worried you would be concerned. Instead of making you anxious, we thought it would be better to wait until Mo Ming was fine before telling you," Murong Lian explained with a smile. "We're three good sisters, after all, and we will be for life. You can't say we're not close anymore!"
Jun Qianqian playfully laughed and replied, "I know, Sister Lian. I was just joking! Since we've all taken a liking to this rascal Mo Ming, we are naturally lifelong good sisters now."
"By the way, Brother Mo, I have some bad news to tell you. Fuxi informed me that the Silver Wolves were attacked last night. Something has happened, and now Poisonous Peak is waiting for you at the headquarters of the Little Green Society," Lin Yuan'er recalled an important matter and immediately told Mo Ming.
"The Silver Wolves were attacked?" Mo Ming's expression turned slightly angry as he said, "I really underestimated that bunch from Hong Gang. Their intentions are not just to undermine Ah Yun's influence but also to eliminate other forces!"
"Yuan'er didn't mention it, but I remembered that something big happened in Nanhua City last night. I heard from Yun Song that Hong Gang sent quite a few Death Warriors over to cause trouble. Many of their properties were directly blown up by the enemy," Murong Lian also recalled something important and quickly added, "He asked me to bring you over as soon as I got in touch with you."
"Yes, I heard about the situation in Nanhua City while I was in prison," Mo Ming nodded and said. "It seems I'll be busy for a while and won't be able to spend every day with you all. However, I promise that once everything is truly settled, we won't worry about these trivial matters anymore and will live our lives well!"
"The important things come first; we're fine," the three women understood him well and did not make unreasonable demands.
"As long as you understand me, that's enough. Alright then, these matters aren't for you women to worry about. I'll take you back to the company later so you can focus on your work without too much concern. In the afternoon, I'll come pick you up for dinner," Mo Ming said with a light smile. "I may not be able to be with you all the time, but at least I'll join you for dinner!"
