During the period of recovery, Mo Ming stayed at Jun Qianqian's house, having to remain quiet all day long, bored to death. Jun Qianqian was often not home, leaving Mo Ming feeling extremely lonely. He would call out but received no response, and when he was hungry, he had to wait for Jun Qianqian to return.
Even for the most basic needs, Mo Ming felt as if he had been beaten all over, experiencing indescribable pain. This made him hesitant to drink too much water; unless he was very thirsty, he resolutely avoided it.
Mo Ming's injuries were not severe, but they had been delayed for too long, causing some inflammation at the wound site. Fortunately, he did not suffer from tetanus and was slowly recovering with the use of anti-inflammatory medication.
In what felt like an eternity, Mo Ming finally made it to the following Sunday. On that day, Jun Qianqian had already dressed up. With light makeup and casually wearing a T-shirt and light blue jeans, her simple attire had an excellent effect. The fitted clothing not only accentuated Jun Qianqian's slender figure but also enhanced her beautiful features with a sense of purity.
This style suited Jun Qianqian perfectly in Mo Ming's eyes. The phrase "pure and unadorned" described her aptly; her innocent appearance did not need to be overly seductive, or it would risk being off-putting.
"Pervert, have you looked enough?" Jun Qianqian tugged at Mo Ming's ear and asked angrily. Since she had come out after getting ready, Mo Ming had been stealing glances at her, making her feel embarrassed.
After all, she was the granddaughter of Lord Qian. Mo Ming couldn't scold or hit her; he could only plead for mercy. "That's enough, let go, Miss Jun. I won't look anymore."
Only then did Jun Qianqian release him with a huff and threatened, "If you keep staring at me like that in the future, I'll have my grandfather dig out your eyes. Then we'll see how you look at me!"
"Wow, that's a bit extreme, isn't it? Just looking is a crime now? You want to dig out my eyes?" Mo Ming joked. "You might as well take a knife and make a few cuts on your face; then you won't have to worry about me looking at you anymore. Even if I were dead, I wouldn't look!"
"You really have a sharp tongue! I want to cut off your mouth and feed it to the dogs so I can see how you talk in the future," Jun Qianqian said while brandishing a fruit knife in front of Mo Ming.
"I know you wouldn't dare cut it off."
Upon hearing this, Jun Qianqian blushed and pouted, "Mo Ming, if you keep talking nonsense, I really will cut off your mouth." Saying this, she pressed the tip of the knife against his lips as a warning.
"Auntie, you can't play with that thing; put it away quickly." Mo Ming genuinely worried that Jun Qianqian might accidentally cut him on the face—how would he go out looking for Sister then?
Knock knock...
"Someone's at the door; hurry up and open it!" Jun Qianqian commanded while pointing the knife at Mo Ming.
Mo Ming had no choice but to get up and open the door. Peering through the peephole, he saw it was Night Peak and felt relieved enough to open the door.
"Brother Ye, you arrived just in time; otherwise, this handsome face of mine would have been ruined by that girl."
Night Peak smiled slightly and said, "Oh, it seems you two lovebirds are having a sweet moment. I must be interrupting, so I'll wait outside. Call me when you're done."
After saying that, Night Peak really seemed inclined to step out and close the door.
"Hey, I'm the patient here; can't you be a little gentler!"
Upon hearing Night Peak's words, Jun Qianqian immediately came over and pinched Mo Ming's arm. Her delicate nails dug into his flesh, leaving a bruise that resembled a plum blossom after she released him.
"Hmph, Uncle Ye, how can you be so disrespectful? Who's a lovebird with him?" Jun Qianqian shot Mo Ming a glare and stepped on his foot before proudly walking out.
Night Peak truly was being disrespectful; at that moment, he couldn't help but chuckle. Mo Ming felt quite frustrated; if he ended up like this, it was ultimately because of that old fool's nonsense.
...
Night Peak drove over in a Land Rover, with Jun Qianqian sitting in the passenger seat and Mo Ming in the back. The two were at odds, each looking at their own scenery. Night Peak found the atmosphere quite amusing and couldn't help but chuckle along the way.
Lord Qian, a figure who had retreated from the martial world, didn't like the hustle and bustle of the city anymore and had moved to a villa halfway up the mountain in the suburbs. The villa was surrounded by high walls, resembling a sturdy fortress.
There were guards at the entrance; more than thirty people were visible on the surface, with countless others hidden away. Mo Ming didn't know whether they had firearms or not, but such defenses meant that unless an army came, it would be nearly impossible to get inside.
Thanks to Night Peak's presence, Mo Ming was able to enter without being searched. Inside, an elderly man of similar age to Lord Qian awaited Mo Ming's arrival.
"Brother Mo Ming, let me introduce you," Night Peak said. "This is Huang Siye, a good brother of Seventh Master who fought alongside him back in the day. He is now Seventh Master's steward."
Huang Siye smiled warmly like Maitreya Buddha. After shaking hands with Mo Ming, he said, "Good lad! Causing such a stir in Nanhua City isn't something simple."
"Fourth Master, how have you been?" Jun Qianqian sweetly tugged at Huang Siye's arm and smiled.
"Good, good! Our little princess is back; Fourth Master is happy about it! Your grandfather is even happier," Huang Siye nodded appreciatively and patted Jun Qianqian's hand. "Alright now, your grandfather is waiting for you in the hall. Hurry inside."
Saying this, Huang Siye led Mo Ming and a few others into the house.
The house was large, comparable to that of a tycoon like Murong Wei, which showed how well Lord Qian had thrived in Nanhua City back in the day, reaping considerable benefits.
Lord Qian was sitting in an armchair in the hall, resting with his eyes closed and leaning on a cane.
"Seventh Master, Mo Ming and Qianqian have arrived," Huang Siye whispered in Lord Qian's ear.
Lord Qian slowly opened his eyes, glanced at Mo Ming and Jun Qianqian, and finally fixed his gaze lovingly on Jun Qianqian, a kind smile appearing on his lips. "Qianqian, you haven't come to see Grandpa for almost two months. Are you still angry with me?"
"No, Grandpa, I don't hate you at all," Jun Qianqian replied apologetically. "It's just that I've been so busy with work at the airport lately that I haven't had time to visit. I hope you won't blame me. I promise to make time to come back and spend more time with you."
"Well, do come back often when you have the chance," Lord Qian sighed. "I'm getting old and don't know how much longer I have left. If you don't visit me more often, there may not be another opportunity."
"That won't happen. You will definitely live a long life, Grandpa," Jun Qianqian quickly reassured him.
"Haha, I hope so," Lord Qian said as he turned to Mo Ming. "You young man are indeed full of surprises. Ever since I saw your remarkable courage that night, I knew you were extraordinary. I didn't expect your skills to be so impressive that you could escape from a hundred people; it truly opened my eyes."
"I owe it all to Lord Qian's help. Otherwise, I might not be standing here today," Mo Ming replied respectfully. "I didn't realize that Qianqian is your granddaughter and almost caused her trouble. I hope Lord Qian won't hold it against me. My injuries are almost healed; I can leave now."
"Don't say such foolish things. Your injuries haven't fully healed yet. If you encounter Sito Hai again, it could cost you your life. You should stay here and recuperate for a while longer. If you're going to fight tigers, you need to ensure you're strong enough," Lord Qian said with a kind smile. "It seems fate brought you and Qianqian together in this vast sea of people; I must help you."
"Please don't, Lord Qian. I know you've been out of the game for many years and shouldn't get involved in these matters anymore. Besides, Zhuge Sheng has a firm grip on everything now. If you help me, it will surely offend him, and that might bring trouble to you as well. I couldn't bear that on my conscience," Mo Ming shook his head and refused.
"Hmph, what can Zhuge Sheng do to me!" Lord Qian snorted coldly. "I'm determined to take care of your matter. As long as I'm around, Zhuge Sheng wouldn't dare lay a finger on you. Just focus on healing here. As for how you choose to retaliate later, that's up to you."
Mo Ming understood that refusing further would be disrespectful to Lord Qian, so he stopped declining and expressed his gratitude: "Thank you very much, Lord Qian. If I survive in the future, I will definitely repay your kindness."
"To be honest, I've been waiting for those words from you. I'm no longer interested in the affairs of the world; it's just that I'm worried about my only granddaughter. I'm getting old and can't protect her for much longer. I just hope someone can look after her so she can live happily; that would satisfy me," Lord Qian implied without saying it directly.
"I promise Lord Qian that I will risk my life to ensure she comes to no harm; trust me," Mo Ming assured him as he patted his chest.
Upon hearing this, Jun Qianqian crossed her arms and huffed, "Who told you to protect me? Hmph, you big pervert, how can you protect me?"
"Haha, Qianqian, I think Mo Ming is not bad-looking. Why not let him marry you? I think it's a good idea," Huang Siye joked.
"Fourth Master, what nonsense are you talking about!" Qianqian's cheeks immediately flushed, and with an innocent look in her eyes, she said, "I wouldn't like a pervert like him! If you keep joking around, I won't come back anymore." With that, Qianqian shyly walked away.
Lord Qian smiled and stood up, saying as he walked, "Mo Ming, I'm not forcing you to marry Qianqian. Times have changed; that kind of thing ultimately harms the happiness of both parties. I don't advocate for it. If you and Qianqian have mutual feelings, that's great. If not, just take care of her like an older brother would."
Mo Ming and the others followed behind. After hearing Lord Qian's words, Mo Ming felt relieved; he thought the old man was going to force a marriage. If that were the case, it would be difficult to handle—marrying was definitely out of the question, but refusing would also be hard to say. Thankfully, Lord Qian was not so rigid.
"I understand. You can rest assured that I'll take care of Qianqian."
Just as Lord Qian was about to speak again, a deafening engine sound came from outside.
Vroom... Vroom Vroom...
"Haha, speak of the devil and he shall appear," Lord Qian said with a smile to Mo Ming. "Today there's someone else who wants to see you; I think you'll have a pleasant conversation."
