After an afternoon of hard work, Lin Yuan'er fulfilled her promise. Just before the end of the workday, she had come up with three drafts of creative materials, which still needed to be further developed by all employees to be considered true creativity.
After copying the materials onto a USB drive, Lin Yuan'er immediately handed the USB containing the three advertising ideas to Murong Lian.
"Sister Lian, all my advertising ideas are on this. Please take a look and see if you're satisfied. If not, I can come up with new ones right away."
Murong Lian played with the USB and smiled, "Did you really manage to get them done? Alright, I'll take a look right now. If they're not good, then I'm afraid you'll have to redo them. Don't blame me for being harsh then."
"Sure! As long as you think they're not suitable, I'll stay up all night to redo them for you," Lin Yuan'er said confidently. "I believe these three ideas will definitely impress Sister Lian and the higher-ups at Ultimate Electronics Company."
"You're quite confident, huh?"
Murong Lian immediately plugged the USB into her computer and carefully reviewed the completed ideas. After going through them thoroughly, she nodded in satisfaction and sincerely praised, "Yuan'er, you truly are the queen of creativity. These three ideas were not only produced quickly but are also clever and well done. I believe Ultimate Company will be very pleased after seeing these three concepts."
"Sister Lian, please stop flattering me; my head is going to swell! As long as you're satisfied, that's what matters. If I don't deliver some results, wouldn't that be disappointing given your high expectations?" Lin Yuan'er tilted her head slightly and smiled. "Sister Lian, how about we work overtime tonight? Let's finalize these ideas before tomorrow."
"You're really impatient! Alright then, we'll work overtime tonight as you suggested," Murong Lian said with a smile while shaking her head.
...
"Finally waiting for you! Time buddy, could you please not take your time when I need you?"
Originally, Mo Ming had insisted on playing games to pass the time and had just endured an entire afternoon. As the end of the workday approached, he was overjoyed and ready to leave.
However, Murong Lian came out of the office and announced loudly, "I have an announcement! After much effort, Director Lin has come up with some creative ideas. To ensure we present good concepts to our clients tomorrow, our company will be working overtime tonight to finalize these ideas so that Ultimate Electronics Company can see just how strong Starry Melody is! And as a reward for everyone's hard work, this month's salary will be doubled."
Although working overtime is tiring, hearing Murong Lian mention a salary increase made everyone feel comforted. For double pay this month, staying up all night was worth it.
"Oh, President Mu is wise! Long live Starry Melody!"
Lin Yuan'er felt quite pleased inside. Her captivating autumn gaze turned towards Mo Ming, and she thought, "Brother Mo, we can finally spend some quality time together tonight. I almost forgot how long it has been since I could truly look at you during the years you disappeared."
The creative director's job was not demanding; as long as she could come up with convincing ideas, there was hardly anything to keep her busy. With her little plan finally successful, she could spend a bit more time with Mo Ming.
Just as Murong Lian was about to turn back to the office, Mo Ming called out to her. She paused, turned around with a puzzled expression, and asked, "What is it? Do you have something to say? Hurry up; I still need to discuss tomorrow's matters with Ultimate Company."
"Of course I have something—something important! President Murong, Miss Murong, since you still have work tonight, can I leave early? It's fine; I'll leave the car for you and take the bus home," Mo Ming said generously, though he really just wanted to go out for a night at the Forget-Me-Not Bar.
Murong looked at Mo Ming suspiciously and firmly replied, "I don't know what scheme you have in mind, but you're not going anywhere tonight. You need to stay in the company to protect me. Understood? That's your duty as my bodyguard." With that, Murong Lian returned to her office.
Mo Ming felt a bit speechless. Since Murong Lian had said that, he had no choice but to stay in the company for the night.
In reality, Mo Ming could have left; it was just that the old man had given strict instructions. If anything happened to Murong Wei's daughter—Murong Lian—he would have to go back and face him. The old man always meant what he said, and Mo Ming knew this all too well.
If anything were to happen to Murong Lian because he left, the old man would probably shoot him on the spot.
"Everyone work hard! I've already ordered KFC for you all; you won't go hungry tonight. If tomorrow's creative proposal goes smoothly, even if President Murong doesn't treat us, I'll pay for everyone to go out for dinner and karaoke!"
Lin Yuan'er made this promise to motivate everyone to work harder, and it seemed to have worked; the employees appeared more energized after hearing it.
"I'm feeling down; my cigarettes are gone. Looks like tonight is destined to be lonely for me. It seems there aren't any places selling cigarettes around here lately. Great, looks like I'll have to chew on my fingers like a fool tonight," Mo Ming thought as he reached for his cigarette pack only to find it empty. He lamented the long night ahead without cigarettes.
Lin Yuan'er seemed to understand the reason behind Mo Ming's gloomy expression and walked over with a smile.
Seeing her approach, Mo Ming quickly pretended to play a game. However, Lin Yuan'er came beside him, bent down, and whispered softly in his ear, "Brother Mo, do you want a cigarette?" After saying this, she gently blew a breath of air towards him. Mo Ming immediately felt a rush of sensation but managed to maintain his composure and not be swayed by Lin Yuan'er's tenderness.
"I don't want to, smoking is harmful to health, so I'm trying to quit." Mo Ming pretended to be calm and said, "You should get back to work quickly, or else Murong Lian will see you slacking off and fire you immediately."
"I won't get fired. It's just a pity; I thought Brother Mo liked smoking, so I specially bought a pack of cigarettes, which is now in my wallet. Oh well, who knew Brother Mo was quitting? I guess I'll have to throw them away; I can't use them to harm you anymore." Lin Yuan'er leaned close to Mo Ming's ear, her words filled with tenderness, making his heart soften.
The temptation of cigarettes was already hard to resist, and Lin Yuan'er's words only intensified his craving. He smiled and said, "Director Lin, it's okay to smoke occasionally. As they say, a smoke after work is better than being a living god. You bought them already; it would be such a waste to throw them away. Why not just give them to me?"
"Oh dear, Brother Mo, you've quit smoking. It wouldn't be appropriate for me to give them to you now," Lin Yuan'er chuckled and said, "I think it's better if I just throw them away to avoid harming you."
Although Lin Yuan'er was of mixed Korean and Chinese descent, having spent many years in Korea made her refer to Mo Ming as Brother Mo every time. While Mo Ming found it a bit strange, it was still better than hearing her call him Oppa, which might lead others to think she wanted to get too close.
"Alright then, stop teasing me. Do you have the cigarettes or not? If you do, just take them out; I need something to pass the long night ahead," Mo Ming said without pretending anymore.
Seeing that Mo Ming was serious now, Lin Yuan'er covered her mouth and laughed before saying, "Of course I have cigarettes! If I didn't have any, how could I dare tell Brother Mo? Alright, the cigarettes are in my bag; come get them in my office!"
"Isn't that inappropriate? Why don't you just hand them over? That way I can go straight to the lounge and smoke," Mo Ming said a bit shyly.
"If you won't come in and get them yourself, then don't smoke at all. Just endure tonight; it's good for your health," Lin Yuan'er said before heading back into her office.
Mo Ming hesitated for a moment but ultimately followed her inside.
He swore on his conscience that he was entering the Bone Cave only for a pack of cigarettes; if he had any other intentions, may heaven strike him down!
As soon as Mo Ming walked in, Qiu Lan peeked out with a mocking expression and sneered, "Brother Mo, Brother Mo—just hearing it makes me sick. You've only been here for a day and already want to flirt with Mo Ming? What a seductress! Hmph! And Brother Mo too; it took just a couple of encounters for him to be enchanted by her. What a big pervert..." Countless curses aimed at both Mo Ming and Lin Yuan'er were omitted here.
Once inside Lin Yuan'er's office, Mo Ming urgently asked, "Where are the cigarettes? Hurry up and give them to me so I can leave; otherwise people might misunderstand our relationship. I don't mind myself, but your reputation might suffer."
To his surprise, Lin Yuan'er laughed nonchalantly and shook her head. "Who would dare misunderstand anything? If anyone does dare to misinterpret things, I'll whip out my marriage certificate and slap it in their face—let's see what they say then."
"Can you not bring that up anymore?" Mo Ming said a bit dejectedly, turning to leave. Lin Yuan'er quickly grabbed his hand and said, "Alright, I won't mention it. I know you can't accept it for now. But you wanted to smoke, right?"
As Lin Yuan'er spoke, she took a few steps to the table and grabbed a pack of cigarettes, tossing it to Mo Ming. He caught it swiftly and looked at the pack in surprise; it was his favorite brand.
"Brother Mo, I know you like this brand of cigarettes, so I bought them for you," Lin Yuan'er said with a smile upon noticing his surprise. "Are you shocked that I know what you like? It's because Dad told me. He said the things you enjoy will never change."
When she mentioned "Dad," she was referring to Mo Ming's father. Hearing this made Mo Ming feel a bit annoyed at his father for being so talkative. However, he couldn't say anything to Lin Yuan'er; after all, she treated him very well—so well that it made him feel guilty. Just like she had said earlier, perhaps the things he liked would never change.
After receiving the cigarettes, Mo Ming felt there was no need to stay any longer. Without saying a word, he intended to leave through the door, but Lin Yuan'er's voice stopped him in his tracks.
"Does Brother Mo really dislike seeing me that much? Why do you always find excuses to run away whenever we meet? Have you become too lazy to make excuses now?"
Mo Ming slowly turned around, forcing a smile that looked quite awkward. "I don't dislike seeing you; on the contrary, I feel like I don't have the courage to face you alone. I have this sense of guilt towards you, do you understand? This guilt feels like a bullet hitting me—it's painful, even more so than an actual bullet."
"I'm sorry. I hope you can give me some time; I think I'll be able to recover."
With that, Mo Ming pulled open the door and left.
