With a crisp sound, the Wine Jug in Rahul's hand fell to the ground and shattered, revealing an expression on his face that was rarely seen—one that was not filled with charm or arrogance. He widened his eyes in shock, looking utterly incredulous, as if struck by lightning.
After a long pause, Rahul swallowed hard and said with difficulty, "It seems I might have had a bit too much to drink and am experiencing hallucinations." As he spoke, he placed a hand on his forehead, his expression one of despair.
Ye Chuanze looked at him with a smile, seemingly pleased with his reaction. He smirked and said lightly, "I assure you, I am not part of this hallucination. Everything I told you is true."
"I really confessed my feelings to Hongjun."
Hearing this, Rahul's face twitched, and after a moment he exclaimed, "How could you possibly like that dullard Hongjun! What do you see in him?"
Ye Chuanze took his words seriously and pondered for a long time before replying, "Perhaps it’s because he is reliable! I want someone to accompany me through the long years ahead. After thinking it over for a while, I believe Hongjun is the most suitable person."
Ye Chuanze did not understand the nature of the feelings between him and Hongjun—was it a master-student bond? A friendship? He didn’t know how Hongjun felt either. All he knew was that his feelings for Hongjun were different from those he had for others, different from Fuxi and different from Rahul. A strange emotion arose within him for Hongjun, hazy and ambiguous like smoke or mist, enveloping him in mystery.
The early bird catches the worm; this was Ye Chuanze's usual principle. He marked what he desired first to prevent others from coveting it or snatching it away. Therefore, without fully understanding his feelings for Hongjun, he had already claimed him as his own. He ambiguously expressed his intentions to Hongjun and asked if he would wait for him; Hongjun agreed.
Once he spoke, he acted. Ye Chuanze had already tied his future to Hongjun’s. They would accompany each other through life. He thought that it didn’t matter if he didn’t understand his feelings for Hongjun right now; there would be plenty of time later to figure it out. Time was not an issue between them. Whether or not he loved Hongjun was irrelevant; what mattered was that he wanted to be with this person and share all moments together.
Indeed, regardless of whether love existed between him and Hongjun, he was willing to accept this person into his life—to lean on each other and support one another. Even in solitude, sharing drinks and conversations or playing games together would be wonderful.
At that moment, Rahul's expression returned to normal. With a casual wave of his hand, the shattered Wine Jug vanished without a trace. He pulled out another Wine Jug, uncorked it, and took a swig of wine. The fiery liquid stimulated his nerves and calmed his emotions.
After taking a drink, Rahul turned to Ye Chuanze, scrutinizing him for a while before saying, "I never expected you to have such courage—to dare confess your love to Hongjun! Tsk tsk! Truly worthy of being Hongjun's beloved disciple; you've been spoiled beyond measure."
Ye Chuanze raised an eyebrow at him and replied nonchalantly, "True love gives one courage."
"Cough cough..." Rahul accidentally choked on the wine. He looked at Ye Chuanze with twitching lips and said, "You... with an impure heart—how did Hongjun not expel you from the sect?"
"Because he can't bear to," Ye Chuanze shamelessly replied.
"..." Rahul.
Rahul pulled the dough directly, his gaze fixed on Ye Chuanze, and sighed, "How did I not see before how shameless you are!"
"That's because you're blind, consistently misjudging people and encountering the wrong ones, which is quite entertaining," Ye Chuanze replied.
Hearing this, Rahul's face darkened, and he scolded, "Stop talking nonsense! Not a single word of truth."
Ye Chuanze glanced at him sideways and said lightly, "You're angry out of shame." After a pause, he quickly added, "Don't deny it."
"..." Rahul silently swallowed the words he wanted to say. He only felt a headache; how did things turn out this way?
That Ye Chuanze would actually pursue Hongjun was... truly unbelievable. Even now, Rahul still found it hard to believe that this was real. How could anyone be interested in Hongjun, that expressionless old stick? Rahul recalled his repeated attempts to entice Ye Chuanze to follow him to the Demon Realm, all of which had been rejected. At that time, Rahul was furious that Ye Chuanze was so ungrateful and couldn't understand what was so good about Hongjun that made him so devoted. What did he have that was better than Hongjun?
Now it seemed that it was like this; the relationship between Ye Chuanze and Hongjun was indeed such. No wonder... he had rejected him time and again. Suddenly enlightened, Rahul felt he had discovered the truth. If it were like this, thinking of Hongjun's handsome and noble face, even the beauty of the Primordial's Fairy couldn't compare to him. It was no wonder that Ye Chuanze chose Hongjun over him; there was indeed a reason for it.
In an instant, Rahul felt psychologically balanced. His self-esteem, which had been damaged by repeated rejections from Ye Chuanze, was instantly healed. It wasn't that he was inferior to Hongjun in strength or authority; rather, it was that Hongjun looked too good. He didn't mind this at all. As for Hongjun's appearance... Rahul still found it quite pleasing. As a man looking like that, lacking any sense of authority or masculinity, was truly unseemly.
A man should have a scarred face, be tall and handsome, with a fierce countenance that instills fear in others; that's what a real man should be. Hongjun was completely the opposite of these descriptors.
Having figured out the intricacies of the situation, Rahul quickly regained his composure and didn't dwell on the complicated ethical relationship between Ye Chuanze and Hongjun. Instead, he asked, "How did Hongjun respond to your advances?" After a pause, he added, "What was his reaction to your pursuit?"
Ye Chuanze glanced at him and said, "Why should I tell you?"
Upon hearing this, Rahul felt a lump in his throat; he was stifled by his response and impatiently said, "Speak quickly! If you don't tell me, I won't let you off easily."
Ye Chuanze snorted coldly and said, "How will you not let me off?"
"If you don't speak up, I'll go find Hongjun, tell him I'm interested in you and want to marry you in the Demon Realm," Rahul threatened.
"..." Ye Chuanze.
Looking at him, Ye Chuanze said, "Aren't you afraid he'll kill you?"
Rahul raised his head disdainfully and arrogantly said, "What can he do to me?"
"True, you are both equally matched; neither can do anything to the other. But why should I tell you? If you want to know, ask Hongjun," Ye Chuanze replied.
"Are you not afraid I will tell Hongjun?" Rahul threatened.
"Say what you want; who cares?" Ye Chuanze replied coldly.
Rahul felt uncomfortable being cornered by his words. This guy, Ye Chuanze, always spoke with barbs and refused to reveal anything. Yet, Rahul was itching with curiosity about how Hongjun would respond to Ye Chuanze's affection.
"Just tell me already; it's not that big of a deal. Why are you being so secretive? Did Hongjun reject you?" Rahul asked.
Ye Chuanze merely looked at him and smiled without saying a word.
"..." Rahul felt a twitch in his face. What did that mean? Was he mocking him?
Rahul, known for his temper, had lost patience after repeatedly asking Ye Chuanze, who still refused to speak. Even though he was eager to know how Hongjun would respond to Ye Chuanze's affection, he didn't want to continue this entanglement. He angrily flicked his sleeve, coldly stating, "If you won't say anything, fine! I have my ways of finding out."
Ye Chuanze looked up at him and suddenly said, "He agreed."
"Huh?"
Ye Chuanze replied calmly, "Master agreed to my affection."
Although he had a faint suspicion that this might be the answer, the truth came too suddenly. Rahul was so surprised that his hand shook and he broke another Wine Jug. "He... actually agreed." Rahul said incredulously, "He really agreed."
It was hard for Rahul to believe. While it was one thing for Ye Chuanze, he never expected someone like Hongjun would also be moved. At their level of cultivation, they had long since calmed their hearts like still water, remaining unaffected by worldly matters, let alone feelings. Hongjun, truly unexpected! Perhaps this had something to do with the person in front of him. Looking at Ye Chuanze, observing his indifferent expression, Rahul thought that this person was indeed intriguing and charismatic. It was only natural for Hongjun to be moved by someone like him.
Ye Chuanze was too complex to see through; he possessed many qualities that piqued curiosity and drew attention. Such a person could easily captivate someone like them.
"What kind of reaction is that?" Ye Chuanze said somewhat displeased.
"Ha ha!" Rahul laughed twice, patting him on the shoulder and said, "Kid, well done! Even Hongjun has fallen into your hands, great job!"
"Why don't you say that I fell into his hands?" Ye Chuanze replied.
"Regardless of who fell into whose hands, the fact is, kid, you did well!" Rahul patted his shoulder hard and exclaimed, "This makes me want to bring you back to the Demon Realm even more. Snatching someone from Hongjun is just too interesting!"
If before, Rahul wanted to entice Ye Chuanze to the Demon Realm out of admiration and a sense of ownership over him, now he had an additional reason. Taking away his most cherished treasure from someone else's hands, especially from a deadly enemy, would be an incredibly interesting and challenging task.
Ye Chuanze glanced at him with a disdainful look.
Rahul stopped laughing and said to him, "Kid, I’ve said it before; you are meant to be one of my people in the Demon Realm. You can't escape!"
"Whether I belong to the Demon Gate or the Taoist Sect is for me to decide; it has nothing to do with others," Ye Chuanze replied calmly.
Rahul looked at him meaningfully and said, "That’s not necessarily true."
From the very beginning, Rahul felt that Ye Chuanze was destined to belong to the demonic path. Some people are simply born for it, like Rahul and Ye Chuanze.
"No matter how much you struggle and resist, you cannot escape your fate. Your destiny was sealed from the moment you were born," Rahul said with a profound tone.
