Hearing the question from Ye Chuanze, Red Cloud forced a smile, one that carried an indescribable sadness. He said, "Today, I am handing over the Primordial Purple Qi; I fear I cannot escape death! These people..." As he spoke, Red Cloud's gaze swept over Di Jun, Taiyi, Kunpeng, Minghe Old Ancestor, and others present. His tone suddenly rose sharply, filled with anguish as he exclaimed, "These people will not spare me! Killing for treasure, killing for treasure! Who would have thought that one day I would end up in such a situation!"
"Once friends who listened to teachings and drank together, today they turn against me for the sake of becoming saints, disregarding our past friendship and aiming their weapons at my throat!" He glanced at Minghe Old Ancestor, who remained silent in response. Seeing this, Red Cloud laughed three times, his expression filled with despair as he continued, "I, Red Cloud, have truly been blind to recognize people! Even you, Mr. Ye..."
Red Cloud suddenly turned to Ye Chuanze and said, "You came here today precisely for the Primordial Purple Qi needed to become a saint, didn't you?"
"Indeed," Ye Chuanze replied flatly, his expression emotionless and his tone extremely cold. "Possessing a precious item is a crime; since you hold such a treasure, you must be prepared for it to be taken from you or even for your life to be endangered. If you want to blame someone, blame your own lack of awareness that allowed others to take advantage of you. I have said before that I bear no grudge against you and have no interest in your life. As long as you hand over the Primordial Purple Qi, I promise to keep you safe. With you and Nuwa joining me, it is not impossible to carve out a path for survival."
Upon hearing this, Nuwa glanced at him but did not voice any objections. At this moment, obtaining the Primordial Purple Qi from Red Cloud was the most important matter; everything else could be discussed later.
Red Cloud's expression remained unchanged upon hearing these words; it seemed he was not swayed by Ye Chuanze's proposal in the slightest.
Noticing this reaction, Ye Chuanze added, "Red Cloud, even if you do not care about your own life and disregard death itself, you should consider Zhen Yuanzi. For countless years, he has worried and labored for you!"
At these words, Red Cloud's expression shifted slightly.
Seeing an opportunity, Ye Chuanze quickly said, "Rest assured; I keep my promises. I swear by the Heavenly Dao that I will not go back on my word!"
Red Cloud opened his mouth as if to speak but was suddenly interrupted by a voice.
"Brother Ye, what boldness! I wonder if you would still be so confident with my two brothers added in." The speaker was Zhun Ti, who had come from the West with Guide Daoist.
Everyone turned their attention toward him; Zhun Ti wore a smile on his face that exuded benevolence.
Ye Chuanze felt frustrated that Zhun Ti had disrupted his plans and showed no good expression on his face. He coldly snorted and said to Zhun Ti, "Junior Brother Zhun Ti, are you provoking me? There should be respect for elders; have you forgotten what your master taught you?"
Zhun Ti choked upon hearing this; he had forgotten that behind Ye Chuanze stood Dao Ancestor Hongjun. Although he also called Dao Ancestor Hongjun master, it was not as useful as Ye Chuanze's address of master. There was still a gap between disciples; his status as a named disciple could not compare to the weight of Ye Chuanze as a direct disciple in Hongjun's eyes.
"Brother, you jest. How could I dare to disregard Master’s words? However, let’s discuss the matter at hand; treasures should go to those capable of obtaining them. My brother and I are certainly qualified to claim them," Zhun Ti said.
"Have you two not already obtained the Primordial Purple Qi? Why then do you come to compete with us?" Di Jun glared coldly at the suddenly intervening Jieyin and Zhun Ti, feeling a surge of anger within. He had painstakingly lured Red Cloud out of Wuzhuang Temple, and just when he was about to secure the Primordial Purple Qi, unexpectedly, Kunpeng and Minghe Old Ancestor appeared, ruining his plans. The appearances of Nuwa and Ye Chuanze were already beyond his expectations; he never anticipated that these two from the West would also come to stir trouble.
"This treasure is naturally better in greater quantity," Zhun Ti said with a smile.
Hearing this, Di Jun felt murderous intent arise. He looked at Zhun Ti with a sinister gaze, his expression darkening as the killing aura around him intensified. The number of competitors was increasing, yet there was only one piece of Primordial Purple Qi. While the involvement of Kunpeng and Minghe Old Ancestor was expected, every capable being among the Primordial Immortals aspired to stand at the pinnacle and achieve the position of a Saint. Even Nuwa's involvement could be justified as she acted for her brother Fuxi. However, it was unacceptable for Zhun Ti and Jieyin, who each possessed a piece of Primordial Purple Qi, to be unsatisfied and compete with him; it was truly infuriating and deserving of death!
"Zhun Ti, one should know when to stop. This treasure is no different; excessive greed may invite retribution from the Heavenly Dao!" Ye Chuanze said coldly.
Upon hearing this, Zhun Ti maintained his expression, smiling as he replied to Ye Chuanze: "Brother, when Master distributed treasures at the Purple Cloud Palace, you were not given any portion of the Primordial Purple Qi. This indicates your lack of fate with the position of Sage; why must you force it today?"
"What does that have to do with you?" Ye Chuanze retorted coldly, adding, "Be careful I take your Primordial Purple Qi!"
Upon hearing this, Zhun Ti's expression darkened immediately. He did not expect that Ye Chuanze would say such a thing. Unlike Red Cloud, during that day in the Purple Cloud Palace, the attitude conveyed by Hongjun was one of protection towards them. Being a direct disciple of Dao Ancestor Hongjun indicated that he had backing. Thus, from the beginning, Di Jun and others had not considered snatching the Primordial Purple Qi from those who were disciples of Hongjun, but rather focused on taking it from Red Cloud. They were not afraid of confronting people like Zhun Ti or Jieyin, but they had to consider the stance of Dao Ancestor Hongjun.
" Mr. Ye speaks well!" suddenly interjected Di Jun, his face grim as he continued, "You should go ahead and take the Primordial Purple Qi from Zhun Ti Dao Ren, do not contend with us." He wanted to see how this dog-eat-dog scenario among fellow disciples would unfold and whom in the end would receive assistance from Master Hongjun Dao Ancestor.
The smile on Zhun Ti's face faltered; his voice turned cold. "Brother Ye, are you truly disregarding Master’s words and wishing for fellow disciples to harm each other?"
"Who wishes to harm you?" Ye Chuanze raised his chin at him, speaking with an icy disdain: "You’re overestimating yourself. Did I say I wanted to harm you? Don’t seek unnecessary validation; harming you would dirty my hands."
With such a sharp tongue, even someone as composed as Zhun Ti, who rarely showed anger, felt his temper flare dangerously close to bloodshed. " Ye Chuanze, out of respect for you being my senior brother, do not go too far!" he exclaimed angrily.
Suddenly, a light laugh came from a distance. Ye Chuanze looked over and saw the Three Pure Ones approaching on clouds.
“Junior brother, you are still as straightforward as ever,” Sky-Connecting said with a smile as he got closer to Ye Chuanze, not even glancing at Zhun Ti.
Ye Chuanze's heart stirred, and he said to the Three Pure Ones, “Are the three senior brothers here for the Primordial Purple Qi?”
“Rest assured, junior brother, we have no interest in the Primordial Purple Qi that Daoist Red Cloud possesses,” Sky-Connecting replied with a teasing look. “We won't compete with you.”
Ye Chuanze chose to ignore his mocking gaze. “Then I thank the three senior brothers for their understanding.”
Primordial scanned Di Jun, Zhun Ti, and others with a cold voice, saying, “This Primordial Purple Qi is for my junior brother. If anyone disagrees, they should first defeat me in a duel!”
Laozi stood silently to the side with the Merit Tower hovering above his head.
Upon hearing this, Zhun Ti was immediately filled with rage, his insides burning. It was not only because of the Three Pure Ones' disregard for him but also due to their favoritism! The attitude of the Three Pure Ones clearly showed that they looked down on both of them! As fellow brothers, how could there be such a disparity? How could he not be furious? The Three Pure Ones and Dao Ancestor Hongjun were being too biased! Ye Chuanze could openly declare his intention to seize his Primordial Purple Qi in front of everyone because he felt fearless, relying on Dao Ancestor Hongjun's favoritism!
“Daoist Di Jun, Daoist Kunpeng, Daoist Underworld River, let’s set aside our grievances for now and join forces against Ye Chuanze and the Three Pure Ones. Afterward, we can discuss how to divide the Primordial Purple Qi!” Zhun Ti said as he looked at Di Jun and the others.
Di Jun and the others fell silent for a moment before nodding in agreement. Given the circumstances, if they did not join forces against Ye Chuanze and the Three Pure Ones, the Primordial Purple Qi would truly belong to him alone.
Seeing this, Ye Chuanze turned to Daoist Red Cloud and asked, “Daoist Red Cloud, have you made up your mind? Tell me your choice.”
Red Cloud bit her lip and said, “I am willing to give you the Primordial Purple Qi in exchange for your promise to ensure my safety.”
“Deal!”
Ye Chuanze quickly calculated in his mind: he, Nüwa, Red Cloud, and the Three Pure Ones made a total of six on their side. On the enemy's side, Di Jun, Taiyi, Kunpeng, Minghe Old Ancestor, Zhun Ti, and Jieyin also numbered six. Both sides had equal numbers and strength, making the outcome a fifty-fifty chance; it was a battle worth fighting!
Ye Chuanze summoned his accompanying treasure, a Twelfth-Grade Black Lotus. This was the treasure that was born alongside him when he transformed. Although its power was not as terrifyingly fierce as his main body, the Twelfth-Grade Annihilation Black Lotus, it was still a postnatal supreme treasure. It combined offense and defense and could control the might of lightning.
Nüwa also summoned her treasures, the Red Embroidery Ball and the Mountain and River National Map, one for offense and one for defense, complementing each other perfectly.
At the same time, Red Cloud and the Three Pure Ones each summoned their treasures.
On the other side, Di Jun summoned his accompanying treasure, the Heavenly Diagram and Luo Book; Taiyi summoned the Eastern Emperor Bell; Kunpeng summoned the Cold Feather Fan; Minghe Old Ancestor summoned two swords, the Primordial Butcher and Abaddon; Jieyin and Zhun Ti each summoned their treasures.
The two sides engaged in battle, entangled with one another.
Treasures clashed against each other in fierce combat, emitting various colors of light. Swords, halberds, spears, and blades intersected with shrill cries as cold light flashed. In mid-air, several Daoist figures fought intensely with overwhelming momentum. The winds surged and clouds gathered as the heavens changed color; dust flew in the Lower Realm as giant stones were crushed to ashes.
The battle continued until sunset when darkness began to fall, yet no victor emerged.
Ye Chuanze had blood at the corners of his mouth; his jade hairpin had been knocked off, his black hair flying wildly. His brows were furrowed with deep hostility; his already sharp features now appeared even more ferocious and filled with killing intent. At this moment, he resembled a ferocious beast, bloodthirsty and eager to kill.
The Three Pure Ones and Nüwa were also in disarray, their clothes tattered.
As for Di Jun, Taiyi, Kunpeng, and Minghe Old Ancestor, they had already fought a previous battle and had lost face to Red Cloud at the start; now their faces bore even more bruises of various colors.
Jieyin and Zhun Ti fared somewhat better; these two were ruthless in their strikes but quick to evade, sustaining fewer injuries.
Red Cloud panted heavily as he stood to one side with a sharp blade in hand; the Nine-Nine Soul-Dispersing Gourd hovered above his head. His clothes were torn, his face injured, lips pale with an unpleasant expression. His hair had been cut short by half and hung messily around him.
He had previously fought with Di Jun and others, and now he had engaged in another fierce battle. After two fights, he had exhausted all his magical power and energy. At this moment, he felt completely drained, his limbs numb; he was merely holding on with a lingering sense of unwillingness.
Red Cloud cast a deep glance over everyone present, recalling the solemnity of the past when the people of Purple Cloud Palace listened to the teachings together, the laughter during the Ginseng Fruit Banquet at Wuzhuang Temple, and then the fierce competition over the Primordial Banana Leaf and Primordial Gourd. Now, amidst the pervasive killing intent, a wave of sorrow and regret surged within him. He could only blame his naivety for not heeding advice.
He remembered the day when Dao Ancestor Hongjun handed him the last trace of Primordial Purple Qi, filling him with ecstatic joy and ambition. In an instant, he found himself battered and bruised, feeling like a fish at the mercy of a knife.
In that moment, sorrow, regret, and anger flooded Red Cloud's heart.
He opened his mouth and spat out a mouthful of blood. Wiping the blood from the corner of his lips, he realized that today’s events would become his inner demon. From now on, as long as he could not overcome this inner demon, his cultivation would no longer progress. Over time, if this inner demon remained, he feared it would lead him to distort his true self and fall into darkness.
Removing an inner demon is no easy task!
Having lost the Primordial Purple Qi, betrayed by friends, and surrounded by enemies—how could such hatred and resentment ever dissipate?
Red Cloud felt a wave of darkness in his heart; hope seemed lost as despair overwhelmed him.
He took out the trace of Primordial Purple Qi, causing everyone to focus their gaze upon him.
With a sorrowful smile, Red Cloud's eyes suddenly ignited with deep hatred as he gritted his teeth and said slowly, "Today, even if I die, I will not hand over the Primordial Purple Qi to you! I curse you all to die in despair, hatred, and unwillingness just as I do! I want you to suffer as I do—unable to find peace in life or death!"
In an instant, there was a loud explosion as Red Cloud self-destructed his Primordial Spirit.
Everyone was taken aback for a moment before rushing forward with their last breath to seize the Primordial Purple Qi.
Only Ye Chuanze sighed quietly; while everyone else surged forward to grab the Primordial Purple Qi, he silently saved a fragment of Red Cloud's Primordial Spirit.
In the end, everyone failed to seize the Primordial Purple Qi, which vanished after Red Cloud self-destructed his Primordial Spirit.
In the distant sky, Hongjun stood on a cloud, holding a piece of Primordial Purple Qi, with a smile playing on his lips.
As the Primordial Purple Qi disappeared and Red Cloud self-destructed his Primordial Spirit, everyone was stunned by this sudden turn of events. The curse uttered by Red Cloud before his death was too vengeful, leaving everyone feeling fearful. In an instant, they lost all thoughts and began to leave one after another.
Nüwa glanced at Ye Chuanze and said, "I will return to Buzhou Mountain first. You come back later so we can avoid being seen together and prevent my brother from venting his anger on you."
Ye Chuanze was somewhat surprised by her words and nodded in agreement, saying, "Alright, be careful."
"Don't worry, I'm fine." With that, Nüwa left.
Ye Chuanze watched Nüwa's departing figure and thought to himself that she still had some conscience; she dared to take responsibility and would face Fuxi's wrath first. After Fuxi vented his anger, he would not direct it at Ye Chuanze. From beginning to end, neither Ye Chuanze nor Nüwa thought their actions could deceive Fuxi; they only aimed to avoid being obstructed by him. Afterward, when Fuxi became angry, they would have to bear the consequences.
After Nüwa left, Ye Chuanze took Red Cloud's Primordial Spirit and returned as well. He soared through the clouds toward Mount Buzhou but was intercepted midway by a man in black descending from the sky.
